As the title suggests, the topic starts with how Strategy is very important differentiator for startups. Followed by a set of examples. The remaining part of the talk involves how many successful startups used Technology as the prime strategy, which made all the difference for them. It also talks on how Technology is not the only Strategy.

Everyone talks about innovation. But what is it? Everyone is developing apps. But will they gain traction in the marketplace? We all want to monetize our creations, but is there a recipe for success? Perhaps there is. And I presented a new model for evaluating our work at the Mobile Monetization Summit in Tel Aviv in December 2013

Maxime Beauchemin wrote an influential article, Functional Data Engineering — a modern paradigm for batch data processing. It is a significant step to bring Software Engineering concepts into Data Engineering. The principle utilizes the advancement from Hadoop. Cloud object storage like S3 makes the storage a commodity. The separate Storage & Compute, so both can scale independently. Yes, human life is too short for scaling storage and computing simultaneously. Functional data engineering follows two key principles. Reproducibility - Every task in the data pipeline should be deterministic and idempotent. Re-Computability - Business logic changes over time, and bugs happen. The data pipeline should be able to recompute the desired state.

Pinot is a realtime distributed OLAP datastore, which is used at LinkedIn to deliver scalable real time analytics with low latency. It can ingest data from offline data sources (such as Apache Hadoop and flat files) as well as online sources (such as Apache Kafka). Pinot is designed to scale horizontally.
