HISTORY OF DDC
● DDC was conceived by an American librarian Melvil
Dewey (1851-1931) in 1873.
● It was first published in 1876.
● It is most widely used classification system in the
world.
● Translated into over thirty languages.
● Its greatest strength is that system is developed
and maintained in a national bibliographic agency,
the library of congress.
