2. Merida, Yucatan, 20 of February of
2014.- The School of Chemical Engi-
neering at the Autonomous Universi-
ty of Yucatan (UADY) was endorsed
for the fourth consecutive time with a
quality recognition for its educational
program in Industrial Engineering
Chemistry. "Receiving for the fourth
time the accreditation certificate
means is not a coincidence, we are
talking about a quality that has come
to stay and shows that UADY has a
new form of academic life which
makes things right for the benefit of
students "said the president of the
university Alfredo Dájer Abimerhi
who received the award from Maria
Elena Barrera Bustillos, president of
the Accreditation Board for Engi-
neering Education (CACEI by its
acronym in Spanish).
"All that UADY does is for the stu-
dents’ better training, enabling them
to build their life projects which will
realize their professional careers and
find the spaces where they can suc-
cessfully perform as citizens and
professionals," said the president at
the distinction ceremony today in the
courtyard of the Faculty of Chemical
Engineering, Campus of Exact Sci-
ences and Engineering.
It is important to note that this ac-
creditation, valid for five years, was
granted in 1999, 2004 and 2009. The
Directorate General of Academic
Development at UADY reported that
36 of its 41 degree programs are cur-
rently enjoying national recognition for
its quality.
"Our first obligation as an educational
institution is to do our part to build a
higher education system, which the
country desperately needs," said the
president before dozens of students,
academics and members of the Univer-
sity Council. "This system will ensure
that all young people that study a de-
gree, regardless of the institution, agen-
cy or program will be guaranteed an
education of quality."
In turn Marcela Zamudio Maya, direc-
tor of the School of Chemical Engi-
neering at UADY said that "quality
education is necessary to respond to
young people who bet their intellectual
capital to UADY to forge their profes-
sional future" and said "the institution
is accountable to society which has
entrusted with the noble task of train-
ing the professionals who will be re-
sponsible for transforming the way
we understand social development,
bringing new logic and more inclu-
sive and fair process in a society that
must reinvent all days. "
She also said that to achieve accredi-
tation plan, they had to demonstrated
that they counted with consistent
studies, teachers with high profes-
sional and educational qualification,
relevant lines of research which
were consistent with the social and
productive needs, mobility pro-
grams, interaction with the produc-
tive sectors, modern infrastructure
and comprehensive and specialized
library collections.
Finally Maria Elena Barrera Bustil-
los, president of CACEI, said that of
the 4,000 engineering programs in
the country that only 16% have ac-
creditation. "I deliver this recogni-
tion to UADY, its officers, academ-
ics and students who must be
pleased that the work is paying off
and to the productive sector; I say
that in this university they are
properly forming students so we can
guarantee they come out with the
profile that is required."

reading society is a soci-

future. It is a society that

Rolando Zapata Bello,
Governor of the State,
said that this event places
UADY as an axis that
integrates the Secretary
of Education , the Minis-

others.
"This is a reading fair
that brings us to Guada-

brings together in one
space readers, writers
and publishers, meaning
the literary creative in-
dustry as a whole," he
said. "Last year at the
opening of the fair, we
reflected on the im-
portance of a partnership
of readers, reaching dif-
ferent conclusions, but
all reaffirming that un-
doubtedly reading is the
most noble and profitable
act by which we obtain
knowledge".
"A society that reads, is
happier, more educated,
more prepared, more
competitive, more in-
formed and free, I'm sure
you all know that read-
ing, everywhere you
look, is good,
and in Yucatan
we are not sat-

knowing and

are able to ex-

Mérida, Yucatán, March
