3. Frightened but Thankful
January 12, 2010 was the most frightening day of our
lives. We were so relieved to hear that GLA was still
standing and that our son, Trey Amos Pierre, was safe.
The two weeks that followed were beyond stressful.
While we heard about everyone at GLA reliving the
trauma through aftershocks on a daily basis, we, as well
as the other adoptive families across Canada, fought and
fought to bring our children home.
When we finally got the phone call on January 26 that the
Canadian government had worked out a plan, and that
we could fly to Ottawa to pick up our son, we were
thrilled, relieved, and so so so thankful!
4. Frightened but Thankful
We were reunited with our son, Trey Amos, forever on January
27, 2010. It was an amazing day. We are so thankful for all the
staff at GLA and everything they did for our family. They
cared for our son for the first 13 months of his life and brought
him through the trauma of that devastating time. There is still
work to be done in this area, and in other areas of his life, but
he has done so well, so far, and we give credit to the GLA staff
and volunteers who loved him and cuddled him when we were
so far away.
Now, it’s almost two years later, and Trey Amos is a happy,
healthy boy, who brings so much joy, excitement, laughter, and
love to our family. He is a very special person and we are SO
thankful for him, our amazing son.
