In our teaching careers, the biggest achievement we can make; is to succeed in creating a supportive
environment which nurtures the emotional, physical, social and intellectual developmental needs of
each and every one of our students.

Teachers share many characteristics in common with parents, teachers also aiming to support and
develop student's motional, social, physical, financial and psychological needs by developing
learning opportunies which foster this growth. Recognising that parents and teachers both play
similar and equally as important roles in a child's development is the fist step to fostering a
collaborative relationship between both parties. Finders and Lewis (1994) further discuss this issue
of parental involvement in schooling by discussing Delgado– Gaitan's (1991) work, which states
"The difference between parents who participate (in schooling) and those who do not is that, those

appreciated, then teachers will gain access to a wealth of knowledge in which they would have

The issue of teacher shortage today is continuing to grow. The effects of the achievement gap are

Being an educator is one of the most challenging professions in the world due to its constantly
changing clientele and practices. To be a successful teacher in this field one must be committed to
lifelong learning. Learning in the field of education comes from colleagues, students, reflection on
one's practices and the advice and observation of other's in the profession (Garmston, 1998 ). One
valuable tool that teacher's have to rely on are the numerous professional organizations catered to the
field of education. Teachers who wish to improve usually join organizations that will educate them
on the newest and most effective practices in their field. In this paper, I will discuss the
educational organizations that I have joined and believe will enrich my professional skills as a
teacher. Educators have a number of responsibilities that they are held accountable for. They are
required a master in several different areas. Charlotte Danielson (1996) author of "Enhancing
Professional Practice: A Framework for Teaching" discusses what responsible teachers must do to

One of the most important elements of teaching is having a large assortment of different
instructional strategies, and choosing which ones to use based on your student population. Properly
using instructional strategies is a valuable aspect to teaching because it keeps students engaged and
active. Instructional strategies are not necessarily important than content in a classroom, but they
will tremendously enhance the way students learn that material. Throughout this expectation, I will
show not only my love for instructional strategies, but also how I can use them in a classroom to

The first piece of evidence I would like to present is an article I read on the significance of
instructional strategies in a classroom. The article, titled Instructional Strategies: How Teachers
Teach Matters, is such a great read because it not only states the importance of using instructional
strategies, but also states how to plan, teach, and reflect upon these strategies. The article also goes in
depth on what a good instructional strategy will produce within a student's work. It later states that
the students will become more engages, more emotionally attached to their work, and school will
suddenly become more fun to them. I have personally seen this throughout my use of instructional
strategies in the classroom as well. When using engaging instructional strategies, my students
suddenly are more active in the lesson and tend to be enjoying class.

These findings are important in light of my own experience because this is a practice that I utilize
in my classroom but it can also be upgraded. Teaching a computer class, sometimes I have learned
that the students understand better when one of their peers explain the concepts and techniques to
them. That is all based on level of learning. Some catch on faster than others and they can help each
other with simple questions. After evaluation of the classroom and judging by administrators
whether or not teachers are abusing the use of peer tutoring, this could be one main idea of focus in
professional development. If evaluated properly teachers can really apply these tactics through
professional development in the classroom to enhance what has already implemented in their
instruction. I did not really know how to group the students but after reading this article I do. In the
future, I will put the lower achieving student with those who have high achievements. Giving the
students ownership and responsibility make them feel important and a little more confident on what
they are working on.
When we speak about teachers learning, it is our job to continue to research more ways and
methods of how to reach our student as well as learn more about our subject matter. You can never

Public school teachers around the United States are not earning fair pay. When compared with other
fields such as computer science, engineering, or the medical field, teachers earn among the lowest
pay grade of all jobs. The thought of living on a low–income frightens many potentially amazing

students education as well; therefore, causing children to not obtain the education they deserve.

not paying so much for college. While this is true for some fields, a bachelor's degree program in
education typically ranges from $25,000 at state universities to $100,000 or more at private

universities which is actually not that much more money to get the degree, yet the engineers are
earning double and sometimes even triple the salary that a typical public school teacher

years. The job of teaching can require a huge amount of work and time to be done successfully.
