Introduction :

The geography of tourism is dominated by number
of key themes, which relate location, place and space,
human and cultural characteristics, and the movement of
people or mobility. The geography of tourism is also
concerned with the flows of tourism from generating
  countries to destinations.
These can be heavily influenced by economic and
political factors, with the flows of tourism traditionally
being from western developed countries to less developed
  countries.

How Characteristics Of The Tourism System
Relate To Geography:

• Rural tourism - Focused on country side

• Urban tourism - Focused on town & cities

• Spa tourism - Travel for health & wellness

• Eco tourism - Based on Nature

• Sport tourism - Focused on spectators travelling to
                       sports events

• Heritage tourism - As example ; world heritage cities

                                                             7

The Geography Of Resources For Tourism :

With a growing demand for tourism focused on a resource base.

Different types of tourism will have distinctive requirements for
growth, and certain sites, regions or countries will be more
 favorable for development than others,

we can examine tourism resources on 3 scales,
              • Global
              • National
              • Local

                                                                 9
Characteristics Of Tourism Resources :
Tourism resources have three main characteristics,

• Tangible features

• Most tourism resources are not used exclusively by tourist

• Tourism resources are perishable

                                                               10
Tourism Resources At Global Scale :
Physical features

The land surface of the earth is composed of a variety of landforms which we can
   broadly group into four categories.

   - Mountains - Elevated plateaus
   - More gently sloping hill lands - Low land plains

Cultural features

A country’s resources in the arts, culture and entertainment
so-called ‘creative industries’ are at least important as its
physical resources and sport facilities in attracting tourists.

                                                                                      11
12
Relationship Between Climate And Tourism:

  • People in tourist activities directly contact with the
atmosphere, and tourist activities are influenced by
climate. Pleasant climate conditions may attract tourists
and urge tourist industry making progress; but
unpleasant climate conditions can block the
development of tourist industry. Climate, as a natural
element, takes part in building tourist landscape
    directly or indirectly.

                                                                13
How Climate Change Impact To Tourism:

  • Climate change have a significant impact on global
tourism. Climate defines the length and quality of the
tourism season, and it plays a major role in the choice
    of destination and tourist spending.

  • Climate change is a major factor influencing the
geography of consumption of tourism. The area most
affected by the 2004 Asian Tsumami have taken some
time to recover from the blow to their tourism trade.

                                                               14
Geographic Distribution Of Major Climate
Change Impacts Affecting Tourism Destinations:

                                                 15
