-Was a Boyscout (In Arizona in 1958)

scoutmaster if he could make a video instead

-In early teens, made mini 8mm movies at the
Pinnacle Peak Patio restaurant
-Went to Arcadia High School (Phoenix)3yrs
- At 13, made a movie called Escape To
Nowhere, based on a battle in East Africa,
which won a prize. It was 40 minutes long.
- At age 16, in 1963, he wrote his first indie film,
140 min science fiction adventure, Firelight.
Later, it inspired the movie he made Close
Encounters of the Third Kind.

-The movie budget budget was around $500
-It was shown at a local cinema
-He generated a profit of $1
-He also made a couple of films about World
War 2, which were inspired by his father
-His parents divorced in Arizona
-He moved to Saratoga, CA with his dad and

-During summer break, he went to Universal
Studios on a tour bus
-Hopped off the bus and went into a doorway
and asked where the library telephone was
-Told his cousin over the phone the story about
him jumping off the bus
-Librarian overheard and asked him if really
true
-Said yes
-Librarian asked what he wanted to do with his
life

-He said he wanted to direct movies, and watch
people direct
-The librarian gave him a pass to come the next
day
-But, he came for every work day of the week
for his summer break
-He found an office that was not being used
-He moved in
-People that he was related to a producer
-So they didn't kick him out

-When he was on set, he showed his short film
Amblin to the studio boss Sid Sheinberg
-The boss gave Spielberg a 7 year contract
