Hello. Thank you for having me here this afternoon. My name is Sandy Schuster and I am a member of the Green Team Project which is an environmental grass-roots non-profit organization. It is my hope today to provide you with enough information about our program so you will be able to decide if you would like to get started on a team. I believe this Project offers individuals the chance to take steps to impact our environment through support and encouragement by peers.
Our agenda today will be to start with: a description of the Green Team Project: helps individuals lower their environmental impact while practically saving money I will share some local environmental statistics that demonstrates the need for the Green Team Project program here in Denver Open the floor to questions and comments

Teams meet every 2 weeks for a total of 7 times Each meeting is about 1.5-2 hrs long Teams are guided by a locally-focused workbook and a volunteer coach Teams are very fun and informal -- often brown-bag it over lunch or have potlucks -- and are designed to be guilt-free and supportive. EVERYBODY IS A RESOURCE
Each chapter focuses on a resource and is packed with eco facts, goals, and over 30 action steps. The first step in each chapter is to do a baseline audit -- weigh your solid waste or go around your house and account for all your household hazardous waste products Follow up audits are then done to figure out how much each member has accomplished. Resource Binder is a supplemental material that has additional information to help team members complete actions. Very similar to Weight Watchers or AA All the information is out there (JEA tips) but who actually follows through. Our program offers an easy and fun structure to learn about environmental issues and how you as an individual can make a significant difference.
Average results per person and per team Actions Completed 23 / 161 Monetary savings $60-$500 a year Each team member gets an individual results form and an aggregate team results form Everyone can make a difference
I am not going to give you a laundry list of where we are today in terms of the environment because it would be too long. Plus there are several organizations that gather this information and put it in a user-friendly format either on their website such like World Resources Institute and its Global Trends database, or in an annual book by Worldwatch Institute entitled State of the World 2003 or in both formats, online and on paper, with the Heinz Center for Science, Economics and the Environment which produces The State of the Nation's Ecosystems But I am going to give you a bunch of statistics that demonstrate how wasteful and inefficient we are and how it is important that we learn to conserve and increase our efficiency when it comes to using our natural resources. And my statistics are categorized by 5 resources which as you will learn are the 5 areas we focus with the GTP
