It is unjust for us (as Marines) to do any such acts. A lot of these if not all, fall under the Uniform
code of Military Justice (UCMJ) such as Articles 92, 98, 104, 107, 121–128, 131,134, and 137. I
cannot name them all but in my opinion articles 78–140 in a nutshell. If you are unsure if something
you say or do will fall under any of the Articles of the UCMJ, then ask your higher up or your
chain of command. Do not be that one to do an act and then say, "Oh I didn't know", then blame
your NCO's or chain of command for not informing you because you did not ask. Perfect
examples of falling into any of these categories could be something as simple as not giving your
command the common courtesy to stand up and give the proper greeting of the day when they
come in, not getting a proper haircut or not informing your chain of command when something
new happens. Worst one yet: telling your command you will do something or not do it, and then
go against what you said. If you are guilty of any of these actions and someone has not corrected
you, then, you need to immediately correct yourself. Do not think someone before you has not

To me honor is the privilege of having the opportunity to serve in the United States Navy and to be
a part of one of the strongest military forces in the world. It is being a well–trained and disciplined
sailor. One who is capable and confident in swiftly carrying out orders. It is taking responsibility

while in the Newport News shipyard, I was on the berthing barge around 0800 in the morning
when I heard a splash in the water coming from the ship next to us. Unfortunately, the splash was
a shipyard worker who had fallen though a plenum "This is a hole in the ship used for the
mooring line" Without hesitating I took my boots of and jump in. not knowing the water
temperature was 36 degrees. I swam 80 of the 100 yards to get to him and all a can see the entire
time was this man struggling for his life going up and down in the water trying to stay on top.
Around ten yards away I look into his eyes just before he went down for the last time. I made it to
the location he was at and began to swim down to try and locate him but to no avail the water in
that area was so murky and the visibility was around two feet in front of me. Devastated that I was

now in big trouble myself, the temperature of the water was now effecting my body and I started to

Honor, Courage, and Commitment are the back bone to the U.S. Navy they infuse the Navy with
a living life blood an unfaultable force. Honor to me is associated with pride not the seven deadly
sins pride, but more like taking a personal ownership in all that you do so that you present your

My time in the military has taught a thing or two about Honor, Courage, and Commitment. I

Things that I really had no knowledge about, but like a robot I did as I was told. So it would be
fitting that "Judgement" would be a high character point for me. I really had to think things
through before I acted upon them, or it would sometimes come back to bight me in the long run.
When I got to my first command I did not learn what "leadership" was till I actually strived to
become one. For over a year and a half I was always just a follower, doing what I was told and never
really branching off or blazing my own path. I achieved many promotions since then, now I don't
know who said it first but my higher ups always preached saying "leaders lead from the front not
from the back" and I agree. I learned how interact with different types of people with many

everyone uses courage everyday. some more courage than others. some days more than other days. to
be honest i cannot think of any times that i had to use a great deal of courage, so im going to make

When you think of the united states, what words come to mind. The average person would
suggest words such as diversity, freedom, and independence. However, in this sense, I am not
average. When I think of the united states, I think of words honor, courage, and commitment.
When I first entered the NJROTC program, the core values of honor, courage, and commitment,
where some of the first things I learned and they've been an important part of my life ever since.
