Characteristics of a Hero Essay
Characteristics of a Hero
"A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself" (Campbell 1).
When we think of heroes most of us think of movie stars or professional athletes, but it's not
always about your popularity or talent it can also be about how you help society. What I think
make a great hero is someone who is able to overcome his or her obstacles in life, is highly
motivated, and has plenty of bravery.
Overcoming obstacles may be one of the hardest parts of being a hero. I think it's the hardest
because a lot of people are blocked from doing something and just quit. A great example of thistrait
is Jackie Robinson. He was discriminated against because he was African–American. Even though

In order to be a successful hero you must be a highly motivated person. Without motivation you
would not be very successful because you would have no ambition to try and make a difference
in the world. I think Rodney Dangerfield is a great example of this because he started he career at
just 15 and he died while he was in the middle of a movie. Also when his wife tried to make him
quit he just blew their many years of happiness and divorced her. In one of his quotes he stated, "At
twenty a man is full of fight and hope. He wants to reform the world. When he's seventy he still
wants to reform the world" (Dangerfield 3).
Bravery is a great trait for a hero to posses. I think bravery is a key quality because you don't always
know what lies ahead of you and you have to be brave to continue. A good example of this is
Charles Lindburgh. He was the first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. I believe that took a
great amount of bravery because no one had ever made it across, so he didn't know what lie ahead
of him. One of his many good quotes he said, "The most effective way to do it, is to just do it",
(Lindburgh 1).
So as you may see overcoming obstacles, being motivated and being outstandingly brave is key to
becoming a great hero.Like overcoming obstacles was very hard for

Essay On Character Traits
There are many character traits that make someone successful in life. Some traits you are born with,
other traits are mindsets. There are a few character traits that coaches, teachers, bosses, or any other
significant figure looks for in particular. One of the most important character traits is a hard–working
attitude. You aren't born with a hard–working attitude. It is a mindset. You may not be the best
employee, but an employer will be more willing to work with someone that works hard than
someone that can do the job but is lazy. Although I am not the best at everything, I give 100%
effort in everything that I do and believe that working hard is the most important trait a person can
possess. As a child, the phrase, "Do your best," was...show more content...
I knew that in order to be starting, I needed to be the hardest worker on the team. With all my hard
work came a starting position. The biggest lesson that my father taught me was in seventh grade.
It was a normal day of basketball practice and we were scrimmaging. During a particular play, I
ran the wrong route. He made me run around the gym for forgetting what to do. I decided that I
was too tired to sprint around the gym. Because of my decision, he chose to kick me out of
practice. I knew at that point that I could take no breaks. While I was taking breaks, other people
were getting better. Chances to improve were very slim, so I needed to take advantage of them
whenever possible. Although this was a very inconvenient way for me to learn this lesson, he
definitely got his point across and I now work hard every chance that I get. Everyone wants to
have a successful career. The first step to a successful career is to obtain the job that you want.
Obviously you need the education level for this occupation, but what else is going to give you a leg
up on the competition? As a Sophomore in high school, I had the opportunity to job shadow a
manager of engineers at an engineering firm. One of his responsibilities was going through the
hiring process. As a prospective future employee, I was curious as to what he looked for most in
an employee. He did not say education. He did not say experience. He said that they needed a hard

What Is A Good Character Essay
What is character? Character is something that is hard to explain. It is who we are, the way we
act, and the kind of person we truly are and want to be. Character is what you are in the dark. But
if character is the kind of person you are when no one is looking, then why does it matter?
Character matters because even when we think no one is looking, they are. People are always
watching us and the way we behave and many will look to us in admiration and inspiration, so it
is our job to constantly be a role model of good character. A couple of ways that we can show our
character are through gratitude and respect, but we can also look up to others, such as Benjamin
Franklin, as role models for good character. Showing gratitude towards others is a great way to
express good character. Being thankful and showing appreciation for those in our lives helps us
strengthen our character and show others the good in ourselves. Being grateful is also a way of
being humble and allowing others to see that we don't think we are better than them. Gratitude can
sometimes be hard to find, but there are many ways to show how grateful we are. Thank you cards,
gift baskets, personal thank you's, gifts, and small acts of kindness are great ways to show the
people in our lives that we...show more content...
In society today it is common for someone to be respectful to their elders or told to do so, but
when we are respectful to our peers and those younger or "below" us it shows great character.
People want to be respected and seen as grown up, and the best way to do that is to be respectful
to others. The best way to earn respect is to give respect. People always say that we reap what we
sow and respect is a great example of this. When we are respectful to other they will, in turn, be
respectful to us. Someone with strong character is respectful and grateful to others. Benjamin
Franklin is a great example of a person with strong

Demonstrate Outstanding Character
I think that in order to demonstrate outstanding character, one must try to do their best and strive
endlessly to make their goals and aspirations. A time when I demonstrated outstanding character was
during my time as President of Model United Nations my Junior year of high school. Although I've
been President for three years now, that year marked my hiatus as a President since with my
leadership and guidance we won a Conference. I felt successful in winning a Model UN Conference
as well as qualifying for State Varsity Congressional Congress in Speech and Debate. As President of
a Delegation, I had taken the roles of both an educator, accountant, and event coordinator while
managing to be a student as the same time. Essentially, what had caused

Harry Potter Character Analysis
Harry Potter is one of the most widely known heroines in all of literature,
But what makes him so special. He has many defining character traits that makes him a hero.
Such as being brave, kind and, determined. The books address many times however we will only be
taking from the second novel, The chamber of secrets. In this essay we will explain why he was put
into gryffindor in the first place. We will also cover examples of his heroic traits in the specific book
the chamber of secrets also. In this essay I will show you exactly how Harry Potter
Is brave and also kind to others and how he is determined to finish the task at hand at all costs.
The first adjective I stated was the factor of Harry Potter being brave.
If I were to only have to choose adjective to describe Harry Potter it would be just that, "Brave".
There are many instances of Harry Potter being brave in the novels. In chamber of secrets however
there seems to be more instances of bravery than any other novel in my opinion.
Being brave has a lot more to do than you just standing up to your fears. It has many other
complications like standing up for something that you think is right when others tell you to stand
down. Bravery is doing things that others would not. With those statements of bravery let's prove
how Harry Potter shows traits of bravery in the chamber of secrets. In chapter fifteen, "Aragog",
Harry stays on the trail when Ron wants to leave yelling "No Ron we have to get this done". He
shows bravery by staying in the forest when fear overtakes his body. He also shows bravery in
chapter sixteen, "The chamber of secrets", when he fights and kills the basilisk to stop Tom
Riddle from killing Ginny Weasley by "Throwing his whole weight into the sword and plunging
the sword into the roof of the basilisk's mouth. Those are all instances of bravery and shows just
how brave Harry Potter is in the second novel, "The chamber of secrets". The second word I would
use to describe Harry Potter is being kind.
Being kind is a good trait to have not only just in heroines but in all humans alike. Harry Potter
shows many instances of kindness throughout all of the novels. Before we go into Harry's kindness
we must first truly understand what it truly

Character Archetypes
In Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, the repeating character archetype seen is the rich villain. This
archetype is seen in Leigh Teabing, the main antagonist in the novel. This archetype influences the
way people see wealthy people in society. It influences the average middle class person into thinking
that money will corrupt them, that those with money are not trustworthy and sexist. The character
archetype, the rich villain, influences people into thinking that money corrupts those who come
across it. In Kristy Maddux's article, "he da Vinci Code and the Regressive Gender Politics of
Celebrating Women", she states, "Once in London, however, their coalition crumbles when Teabing
is revealed to be the mastermind behind the operation" (Maddux,...show more content...
In the article "The da Vinci Code and the Regressive Gender Politics of Celebrating Women",
Kristy states, ". Ultimately, Teabing is arrested, and Neveu and Langdon are left to unravel
Sauniere's trail"(Maddux, 3). This quote states that Leigh Teabing gets arrested which proves that
he is the villain. At first, Robert Langdon and Sophie trusted Leigh Teabing but he turned out to
be a liar. The other antagonists in this novel who also betray the people around them are rich. This
causes people to believe that those who are rich are not trustworthy. Also, the two characters in the
story who are trustworthy, Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu, are not shown to have a significant
amount of wealth. This just amplifies the influence that the rich villain archetype has on people.
The novel portrays those who are rich as untrustworthy and betrayers, and portrays those who are
not rich as trustworthy. Another example of the rich villain who influences people into believing
that those with money are not trustworthy is Donald Trump. A creative video piece made my John
Oliver called "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver: Donald Trump", explains how untrustworthy
Donald Trump really is. In the piece, John Oliver says, "The website politifacts checks 77 of his
statements and rated 76 percent of them as varying degrees of false" (Oliver, 2:30). This quote
explains how more than three quarters of Donald Trump's statements are lies. This also influences
people into thinking that those with money are not trustworthy because he is always talking about
how rich he is and he is beginning to cause people to create connections between his wealth and his
lying habits. He tells people he is rich and he lies so often that people have began to correlate those
two traits with each other. That is how the archetype of the rich villain is influencing people into
thinking that those who

The Importance of Good Character Essay
Why is character important? Why is it important to be a person of good morals, ethics, and
character? Can that make you more productive in life, family, school, business, work, etc. ? Well,
good moral, ethics, and character has NEVER hurt anyone. President Abraham Lincoln once said,
"Reputation is the shadow. Character is the tree." To many, this quote means that Character is like a
tree which bears the shadow of their reputation whether it be good or bad. "I have no regrets in my
life. I think that everything happens to you for a reason. The hard times that you go through build
character, making you a much stronger person." – Rita Moreno As seen in these quotes, character is
important, and it determines your reputation in...show more content...
Good character/characteristics also show leadership and value. Not only to the people around
you, but to the marketplace (where you work). Let's put this into perspective. IF..... you were the
employer or manager of a company: the person in charge of hiring and firing, which person would
you hire? Person 1 or Person 2 ? Person 1: Well, I went to this school, and I have this degree, and I
know that when you hire me I'll make the MOST for this company. You have never seen anyone
like me. You should be glad that I'm even here in your office today. So... are you gonna take me,
or leave me? Person 2: Well Mr./Mrs. _________, I'm so honored to be here today. I'm grateful
that you took the time to interview me. I might not have all the credentials for this position with
your company, but I am willing to learn whatever you teach me. If you teach me, I'll do my very
best at my job, and will work at doing it to the best of my ability. Now that your thinking about
these two different people (that your considering to hire) which one would you choose? Person 1
or Person 2 ? Well, the majority of us would choose Person 2. Why?? Because Person 2 shows that
they are humble, teachable, and grateful. We wouldn't hire Person 1 because they appeared as
arrogant, "stuck–up", and maybe even pushy. My point is simply this. Not just your mannerism, but
your character can be seen through how you speak, carry yourself,

Ethics, character and personal integrity are three of the most important factors in organisation; this
essay will determine the role of ethics, character and personal integrity and describe the differences
between them.
Ethics is about decision–making and actions of human freedom. Ethics is the decision between what
is right and wrong in life, when faced with the different directions of the action or alternative goals
to pursue, our moral direction to make reasonable decisions. Especially in organizations, ethics plays
a very important role. Ethics become the responsibility of the individual for his work in the

of integrity. for the company to develop in a sustainable way, leaders need to develop the trust and
the consensus around shared values . As Kouzes and Posner (2002, pp. 79–80) point out, the
development of shared values improves the work environment and productivity. Integrity also
strengthens personal effectiveness, corporate loyalty, and ethical behavior of the employees because
they trust in the leaders who had created Culture of integrity, as a result, the performance of the
company will highly increase.
The difference between ethics and character is ethics always toward to common standard of the
whole sociality and was learned through experiences and errors in life. For example, the company
starts to work at 8.00am; everyone will arrive before or on time around 8.00 am to work. Character
belongs to individual and separate nature, very difficult to get through the learning process and
training. For example, self–confident can not learn from any book or lesson while personal integrity
is not only all about ethics but also all about character. It is those characteristics of an individual that
are consistently considerate, compassionate, transparent, honest, and ethical. The characteristic of
trust is closely associated with integrity. To be success, the most important factor you must have

Analysis Of Characters In A Jury Of Her Peers
Characters are a significant, if not the most important component of a story. They express the
emotions of relatable people, and are used by the author to influence readers to support their own
desired conclusion. Many people discuss the characters in a short story or novel, but don't actually
read for characterization. Reading for character is a higher–level skill because "analyzing
characterization is more difficult than describing plot, for human character is infinitely complex,
variable, and ambiguous" (Arp 161). Like in most interpretive fictional stories, Susan Glaspell's short
story "A Jury of Her Peers," the reader sees richness in the characterization of three women: Minnie
Foster Wright who is accused of murdering her husband, Mrs. Hale who is Minnie's childhood friend,
and Mrs. Peters the wife of the local sheriff. Through an in depth portrayal of the setting, as well as
the characters' outlooks, feelings and passions, Glaspell gradually divulges the story's real
underlying conflict and theme which is that under constant subjugation, one may choose to take
strong actions without concern of their consequences. The presentation and behavior of characters
represent what the author wants the reader to know, feel, and interpret in his/her own story.
Interpretative literature usually contains more significant and multi–faceted or round characters
whose thoughts and actions usually drive the story, while pieces of commercial literature, even ones

Getting Into Character Essay example
Our first subject of study, Stella Adler, was one of the students of Stanislavskiz and was the only
American actress to study under him. Although, I didn't identify with all of Stella Adler's
technique's as a whole as it doesn't seem to take as in depth of an approach as some of the other
acting methods, some of her techniques such as "acting is doing" I found very helpful. When Adler
says acting is doing she is referring to how every actor must have a purpose for an action. I found
this to be important for me to remember as often I found myself in my scenes doing way more
than I needed to. I always had to remind myself of what Meisner said, "less is more!" Also, Stella
Adler's approach to training the imagination so that you saw in...show more content...

For my own acting method I identify most with the teachings of Sanford Meiser. His process in
finding realism within imaginary circumstances is one that is unparalleled. His method is
effective for me as I do not like technicality while acting, I prefer to rely purely on emotions. I
believe actors should be attempting to put themselves within the shell of the person they portray.
So much so that what they do as that character, becomes as real as if they themselves were the
character. I disagree strongly with Strasberg's acting method in that actors can just tap in to past
emotions in order to play their character. I do not believe if an actor has to play an emotional
scene they need to remember when a relative died, or something else extremely emotional
happened I their life. Not only do I believe its cruel to the actor, I believe it is cheating in that the
actor cannot possible be in character if their mind is elsewhere. Stella Adler said about the
Strasberg method that "Drawing on emotions I experienced, for example, when my mother died
to create a role, is sick and schizophrenic. If that is acting, I don't want to do it." Some of what
Strasberg says however I do agree with. Besides Strasberg's "affective memory" idea, I agree with
everything else he has to say about Method acting. I like the idea of

Personal Characteristics Essay
There are many personal characteristics that can affect a person as an individual and his
professional success, namely openness, ability to learn and adapt etc. These personal
characteristics can sometimes make a person successful and sometimes doesn't. As I spend more
and more time as a professional, I perceive that there are few characteristics that are essential for
professional success: namely ambitious, creative and adaptable. These characteristics come out in
many different ways. Have you set your goals? Have you decided the path you have to take to
pursue your goal? What are the sacrifices you can do to achieve your ambition? How much can

This characteristic will motivate me to grow better in my future career as well. I believe that few
people have a strong inner feeling that pushes them to think out of the box to identify as issue and
find the solution. Personally, I always try to find the most creative solution and do not give up until
I get it. Sometime this energy is contagious on to next. I always search for the missing links and
fine–tune my thoughts until I reach a point that works. This creativity has steadily driven my
ambitions through the organization. Today the world is changing so rapidly and the way it has
changed in last few decades, it hasn't changed in last few hundred years. So adaptability has become
the need of the hour. I believe that adaptability is the most important quality of all, particularly if one
is in technology industry. There have been times when this adaptability has changed the
nomenclature of day and night but it has also given me rewards at the appropriate times.
Adaptability, personally, has created a far–reaching international outlook and I was able to spend
time, living outside my country of origin, working for UK retails giants and this stay not only
diversified my work experience but also my cultural experience. It has improved my exposure to
diverse situations with increasing levels of complexity and this exposure has increased my
eagerness for new challenges. It has instigated a feeling in me that there

The Importance Of Character
According to Merriam–Webster, character is "The group of qualities that make a person, group, or
thing different from others." Character is the way a person reasons, feels, and acts. It is a state
of being and not doing. The choices and decisions that are made when no one is watching
typically exemplifies the real you. Most of us tend to make better decisions when others are
watching to protect our reputations. For some reason, we want people to think of us in a certain
manner; therefore, we behave the way others think we should. I personally know people that act
a certain way when others are watching, but behind closed doors they are a completely different
person. This is hypocritical behavior. A hypocrite is a person that says one thing and does another.
Often times, their words are not consistent with their actions and deeds. A person of integrity will
be who they are regardless of where they are and who they are with. They will not change. If you
want to test a person's character, just observe how they treat the people whom they have authority or
advantage over. Malcolm Forbes, publisher of Forbes magazine, states, "You can easily judge the
character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." Character is one of the most
important things we possess. A person's nature and temperament will sustain them and determine the
course of their lives. The condition of our hearts can be perceived by our actions, attitudes, reactions,
and responses;

Sympathetic Character
Character is defined as the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Every
individual person displays certain character traits. Some character traits that I feel set me apart
from others and that I demonstrate on a regular basis are being sympathetic and considerate.
Being considerate means to be thoughtful and careful to how others feel. Being sympathetic
means to have an understanding with someone of a common feeling you both have felt. I feel
that I demonstrate these traits everyday. For one instance is when I helped out to mentor some of
the younger kids on my baseball team. As one of the oldest kids on my team with the most
experience I was able to help teach the younger kids a lot about the game of baseball. No one told
me I needed to do this but I took charge and helped out because I remembered when I was in their
situation. It was hard to be one of the younger kids who don't know how to do much but what
helped was having a peer with more experience who teaches you new things. I helped out the
younger kids by teaching them new tricks and helped them improve. I helped them become better
players by showing them how to make a certain plays. For example when a lot of the younger kids

because everyone makes mistakes. The younger kids often will blame someone for losing the
game for making an error but in reality we all make mistakes and one play is not the reason for
losing the game. I helped keep the team together and showed the younger kids how to play the

Tybalt Character Analysis
In "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare, Tybalt says "This, by his voice, should be a Montague.
/Fetch me my rapier, boy" (1.V.71–72). Like the quote shows, Tybalt always made abrupt decisions
that were for the worse of things in every situation he faced. Tybalt was one of the most feared
Capulets because he always looked how he could turn any altercation into a violent one. He did
not care for others but cared mainly for his ego. In Act 1 scene 5, we get another perfect example
of how Tybalt made decisions with malicious intent. A Montague has upset and "hurt" Tybalt
because he believes that a Montague has invaded their party inside the Capulet house. In the play
Tybalt states, "This, by his voice, should be a Montague./Fetch me my rapier, boy. What dares the
slave/Come hither, cover'd with an antic face,/To fleer and scorn at our solemnity?/Now, by the
stock and honour of my kin,/To strike him dead, I hold it not a sin" (1.V.71
–76). He was ready to
kill someone that he thought was a Montague, just by listening to their voice. He would have killed
him too if it weren't for his uncle, Capulet, who had stopped him just in time or else something bad
would have happened and someone, who Tybalt later found to be Romeo. Later in the same scene,
Tybalt says "Patience perforce with wilful choler meeting/Makes my flesh tremble in their different
greeting./I will withdraw: but this intrusion shall/Now seeming sweet convert to bitter gall"
(I.V.119–122). Tybalt vows to get vengeance for

Character, Morals, Integrity Morals, character, integrity, what do these words mean....actually, the
question is, do you have them. A man named Dwight Moody once said, "Character is what you
are in the dark." You cannot see your morals, character, or integrity, these are only shown as your
values. Someone could only show their own values, which are very important to themselves and
everyone else. Integrity is the firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values. The
way you show your integrity, character, and morals or how they are effect you in either a negative
or positive way. There are many causes to how your values are. So as you know, integrity is very
important and it is important to have it. First of...show more content...
Laura stated, "integrity effects you by either being honest or not. If you are honest, then you
have integrity. People who say that they are going to do something do it." You can now see that
character, morals, and integrity are very important. Secondly, people may think that their values
may not affect them, but they're wrong, they affect them a lot. Since character describes how you
are and what your moral strengths are, having bad character could make people dislike you
because of how you are. On the other hand, if you have good character, then more people would
see how good of a person you are and even more people would like you. Morals sort of describe the
way you make decisions, so having bad morals could guide your life down the drain, while having
good morals could guide your life minute by minute toward noble goals. Integrity is also very
important. Having bad integrity could make you very non–trustworthy to others. Having good
integrity would make you very trustworthy to others. Knowing how important they are, you should
always have good or even better character, morals, and integrity. Also, there are many causes for
how your character, morals, and integrity are. One cause could of course be yourself. By hanging
out with the right people and making good decisions, you could have good values. Yet hanging out
with the wrong people and making bad decisions would be having bad values. Another cause may

Definition Essay On Good Character
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, character is defined as, "one of the attribute or
features that make up and distinguish an individual" or "a feature used to separate distinguishable
things into categories." With these two definitions it becomes easy to apply them to human context.
In the first definition it defines character as something that distinguishes an individual. Many things
can distinguish you from someone else, this can include but not be limited to, work ethic, grades,
respect, responsibility, and honesty. All these things are also life skills, things that will help you in
the future. And you can learn them at any time. In this report i will discus what good character is,
how to create good character, and how to recover good character after losing it....show more content...
Good character means showing up on time, giving an effort, and so much more. It is the pinnacle
of being successful. And keeping up with the world. Good character is that one thing that sets
you apart from your opponent., that separates the good guys and the bad guys. Many people will
entirely disregard you when no good character is shown, doors will close, opportunities will be
wasted, and rejections will be made. But if the opposite is applied the opposite will happen.
Doors will open, opportunities will be made, and people will respect you. All this can happen, but
it is up to you what will happen. Will you have people respect you, will you create opportunities,
or will you have people ignore you, and reject you. This may sound like an easy decision to make,
but for many people who don't have the drive to put forth the effort it becomes too strenuous for

Character Essay Sample

  • 1. Characteristics of a Hero Essay Characteristics of a Hero "A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself" (Campbell 1). When we think of heroes most of us think of movie stars or professional athletes, but it's not always about your popularity or talent it can also be about how you help society. What I think make a great hero is someone who is able to overcome his or her obstacles in life, is highly motivated, and has plenty of bravery. Overcoming obstacles may be one of the hardest parts of being a hero. I think it's the hardest because a lot of people are blocked from doing something and just quit. A great example of thistrait is Jackie Robinson. He was discriminated against because he was African–American. Even though ...show more content... In order to be a successful hero you must be a highly motivated person. Without motivation you would not be very successful because you would have no ambition to try and make a difference in the world. I think Rodney Dangerfield is a great example of this because he started he career at just 15 and he died while he was in the middle of a movie. Also when his wife tried to make him quit he just blew their many years of happiness and divorced her. In one of his quotes he stated, "At twenty a man is full of fight and hope. He wants to reform the world. When he's seventy he still wants to reform the world" (Dangerfield 3). Bravery is a great trait for a hero to posses. I think bravery is a key quality because you don't always know what lies ahead of you and you have to be brave to continue. A good example of this is Charles Lindburgh. He was the first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. I believe that took a great amount of bravery because no one had ever made it across, so he didn't know what lie ahead of him. One of his many good quotes he said, "The most effective way to do it, is to just do it", (Lindburgh 1). So as you may see overcoming obstacles, being motivated and being outstandingly brave is key to becoming a great hero.Like overcoming obstacles was very hard for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay On Character Traits There are many character traits that make someone successful in life. Some traits you are born with, other traits are mindsets. There are a few character traits that coaches, teachers, bosses, or any other significant figure looks for in particular. One of the most important character traits is a hard–working attitude. You aren't born with a hard–working attitude. It is a mindset. You may not be the best employee, but an employer will be more willing to work with someone that works hard than someone that can do the job but is lazy. Although I am not the best at everything, I give 100% effort in everything that I do and believe that working hard is the most important trait a person can possess. As a child, the phrase, "Do your best," was...show more content... I knew that in order to be starting, I needed to be the hardest worker on the team. With all my hard work came a starting position. The biggest lesson that my father taught me was in seventh grade. It was a normal day of basketball practice and we were scrimmaging. During a particular play, I ran the wrong route. He made me run around the gym for forgetting what to do. I decided that I was too tired to sprint around the gym. Because of my decision, he chose to kick me out of practice. I knew at that point that I could take no breaks. While I was taking breaks, other people were getting better. Chances to improve were very slim, so I needed to take advantage of them whenever possible. Although this was a very inconvenient way for me to learn this lesson, he definitely got his point across and I now work hard every chance that I get. Everyone wants to have a successful career. The first step to a successful career is to obtain the job that you want. Obviously you need the education level for this occupation, but what else is going to give you a leg up on the competition? As a Sophomore in high school, I had the opportunity to job shadow a manager of engineers at an engineering firm. One of his responsibilities was going through the hiring process. As a prospective future employee, I was curious as to what he looked for most in an employee. He did not say education. He did not say experience. He said that they needed a hard working Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. What Is A Good Character Essay What is character? Character is something that is hard to explain. It is who we are, the way we act, and the kind of person we truly are and want to be. Character is what you are in the dark. But if character is the kind of person you are when no one is looking, then why does it matter? Character matters because even when we think no one is looking, they are. People are always watching us and the way we behave and many will look to us in admiration and inspiration, so it is our job to constantly be a role model of good character. A couple of ways that we can show our character are through gratitude and respect, but we can also look up to others, such as Benjamin Franklin, as role models for good character. Showing gratitude towards others is a great way to express good character. Being thankful and showing appreciation for those in our lives helps us strengthen our character and show others the good in ourselves. Being grateful is also a way of being humble and allowing others to see that we don't think we are better than them. Gratitude can sometimes be hard to find, but there are many ways to show how grateful we are. Thank you cards, gift baskets, personal thank you's, gifts, and small acts of kindness are great ways to show the people in our lives that we...show more content... In society today it is common for someone to be respectful to their elders or told to do so, but when we are respectful to our peers and those younger or "below" us it shows great character. People want to be respected and seen as grown up, and the best way to do that is to be respectful to others. The best way to earn respect is to give respect. People always say that we reap what we sow and respect is a great example of this. When we are respectful to other they will, in turn, be respectful to us. Someone with strong character is respectful and grateful to others. Benjamin Franklin is a great example of a person with strong Get more content on HelpWriting.net

A time when I demonstrated outstanding character was during my time as President of Model United Nations my Junior year of high school. Although I've been President for three years now, that year marked my hiatus as a President since with my leadership and guidance we won a Conference. I felt successful in winning a Model UN Conference as well as qualifying for State Varsity Congressional Congress in Speech and Debate. As President of a Delegation, I had taken the roles of both an educator, accountant, and event coordinator while managing to be a student as the same time. • 5. Harry Potter Character Analysis Harry Potter is one of the most widely known heroines in all of literature, But what makes him so special. He has many defining character traits that makes him a hero. Such as being brave, kind and, determined. The books address many times however we will only be taking from the second novel, The chamber of secrets. In this essay we will explain why he was put into gryffindor in the first place. We will also cover examples of his heroic traits in the specific book the chamber of secrets also. In this essay I will show you exactly how Harry Potter Is brave and also kind to others and how he is determined to finish the task at hand at all costs. The first adjective I stated was the factor of Harry Potter being brave. If I were to only have to choose adjective to describe Harry Potter it would be just that, "Brave". There are many instances of Harry Potter being brave in the novels. In chamber of secrets however there seems to be more instances of bravery than any other novel in my opinion. Being brave has a lot more to do than you just standing up to your fears. It has many other complications like standing up for something that you think is right when others tell you to stand down. Bravery is doing things that others would not. With those statements of bravery let's prove how Harry Potter shows traits of bravery in the chamber of secrets. In chapter fifteen, "Aragog", Harry stays on the trail when Ron wants to leave yelling "No Ron we have to get this done". He shows bravery by staying in the forest when fear overtakes his body. He also shows bravery in chapter sixteen, "The chamber of secrets", when he fights and kills the basilisk to stop Tom Riddle from killing Ginny Weasley by "Throwing his whole weight into the sword and plunging the sword into the roof of the basilisk's mouth. Those are all instances of bravery and shows just how brave Harry Potter is in the second novel, "The chamber of secrets". The second word I would use to describe Harry Potter is being kind. Being kind is a good trait to have not only just in heroines but in all humans alike. Harry Potter shows many instances of kindness throughout all of the novels. Before we go into Harry's kindness we must first truly understand what it truly Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Character Archetypes In Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, the repeating character archetype seen is the rich villain. This archetype is seen in Leigh Teabing, the main antagonist in the novel. This archetype influences the way people see wealthy people in society. It influences the average middle class person into thinking that money will corrupt them, that those with money are not trustworthy and sexist. The character archetype, the rich villain, influences people into thinking that money corrupts those who come across it. In Kristy Maddux's article, "he da Vinci Code and the Regressive Gender Politics of Celebrating Women", she states, "Once in London, however, their coalition crumbles when Teabing is revealed to be the mastermind behind the operation" (Maddux,...show more content... In the article "The da Vinci Code and the Regressive Gender Politics of Celebrating Women", Kristy states, ". Ultimately, Teabing is arrested, and Neveu and Langdon are left to unravel Sauniere's trail"(Maddux, 3). This quote states that Leigh Teabing gets arrested which proves that he is the villain. At first, Robert Langdon and Sophie trusted Leigh Teabing but he turned out to be a liar. The other antagonists in this novel who also betray the people around them are rich. This causes people to believe that those who are rich are not trustworthy. Also, the two characters in the story who are trustworthy, Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu, are not shown to have a significant amount of wealth. This just amplifies the influence that the rich villain archetype has on people. The novel portrays those who are rich as untrustworthy and betrayers, and portrays those who are not rich as trustworthy. Another example of the rich villain who influences people into believing that those with money are not trustworthy is Donald Trump. A creative video piece made my John Oliver called "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver: Donald Trump", explains how untrustworthy Donald Trump really is. In the piece, John Oliver says, "The website politifacts checks 77 of his statements and rated 76 percent of them as varying degrees of false" (Oliver, 2:30). This quote explains how more than three quarters of Donald Trump's statements are lies. This also influences people into thinking that those with money are not trustworthy because he is always talking about how rich he is and he is beginning to cause people to create connections between his wealth and his lying habits. He tells people he is rich and he lies so often that people have began to correlate those two traits with each other. That is how the archetype of the rich villain is influencing people into thinking that those who Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. The Importance of Good Character Essay Why is character important? Why is it important to be a person of good morals, ethics, and character? Can that make you more productive in life, family, school, business, work, etc. ? Well, good moral, ethics, and character has NEVER hurt anyone. President Abraham Lincoln once said, "Reputation is the shadow. Character is the tree." To many, this quote means that Character is like a tree which bears the shadow of their reputation whether it be good or bad. "I have no regrets in my life. Person 1: Well, I went to this school, and I have this degree, and I know that when you hire me I'll make the MOST for this company. You have never seen anyone like me. You should be glad that I'm even here in your office today. So... are you gonna take me, or leave me? Person 2: Well Mr./Mrs. _________, I'm so honored to be here today. I'm grateful that you took the time to interview me. I might not have all the credentials for this position with your company, but I am willing to learn whatever you teach me. If you teach me, I'll do my very best at my job, and will work at doing it to the best of my ability. Now that your thinking about these two different people (that your considering to hire) which one would you choose? Person 1 or Person 2 ? Well, the majority of us would choose Person 2. Why?? Because Person 2 shows that they are humble, teachable, and grateful. We wouldn't hire Person 1 because they appeared as arrogant, "stuck–up", and maybe even pushy. My point is simply this. Ethics, character and personal integrity are three of the most important factors in organisation; this essay will determine the role of ethics, character and personal integrity and describe the differences between them. Ethics is about decision–making and actions of human freedom. Ethics is the decision between what is right and wrong in life, when faced with the different directions of the action or alternative goals to pursue, our moral direction to make reasonable decisions. Especially in organizations, ethics plays a very important role. Ethics become the responsibility of the individual for his work in the organization. Integrity also strengthens personal effectiveness, corporate loyalty, and ethical behavior of the employees because they trust in the leaders who had created Culture of integrity, as a result, the performance of the company will highly increase. The difference between ethics and character is ethics always toward to common standard of the whole sociality and was learned through experiences and errors in life. For example, the company starts to work at 8.00am; everyone will arrive before or on time around 8.00 am to work. Character belongs to individual and separate nature, very difficult to get through the learning process and training. For example, self–confident can not learn from any book or lesson while personal integrity is not only all about ethics but also all about character. It is those characteristics of an individual that are consistently considerate, compassionate, transparent, honest, and ethical. The characteristic of trust is closely associated with integrity. • 9. Analysis Of Characters In A Jury Of Her Peers Characters are a significant, if not the most important component of a story. They express the emotions of relatable people, and are used by the author to influence readers to support their own desired conclusion. Many people discuss the characters in a short story or novel, but don't actually read for characterization. Reading for character is a higher–level skill because "analyzing characterization is more difficult than describing plot, for human character is infinitely complex, variable, and ambiguous" (Arp 161). Like in most interpretive fictional stories, Susan Glaspell's short story "A Jury of Her Peers," the reader sees richness in the characterization of three women: Minnie Foster Wright who is accused of murdering her husband, Mrs. Hale who is Minnie's childhood friend, and Mrs. Peters the wife of the local sheriff. Through an in depth portrayal of the setting, as well as the characters' outlooks, feelings and passions, Glaspell gradually divulges the story's real underlying conflict and theme which is that under constant subjugation, one may choose to take strong actions without concern of their consequences. The presentation and behavior of characters represent what the author wants the reader to know, feel, and interpret in his/her own story. Interpretative literature usually contains more significant and multi–faceted or round characters whose thoughts and actions usually drive the story, while pieces of commercial literature, even ones with the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Although, I didn't identify with all of Stella Adler's technique's as a whole as it doesn't seem to take as in depth of an approach as some of the other acting methods, some of her techniques such as "acting is doing" I found very helpful. When Adler says acting is doing she is referring to how every actor must have a purpose for an action. I found this to be important for me to remember as often I found myself in my scenes doing way more than I needed to. I always had to remind myself of what Meisner said, "less is more!" I am at my best when someone pushes me out of my shell and that is why I enjoy a brutal honesty between my acting partner and myself. For my own acting method I identify most with the teachings of Sanford Meiser. His process in finding realism within imaginary circumstances is one that is unparalleled. His method is effective for me as I do not like technicality while acting, I prefer to rely purely on emotions. I believe actors should be attempting to put themselves within the shell of the person they portray. So much so that what they do as that character, becomes as real as if they themselves were the character. I disagree strongly with Strasberg's acting method in that actors can just tap in to past emotions in order to play their character. I do not believe if an actor has to play an emotional scene they need to remember when a relative died, or something else extremely emotional happened I their life. Not only do I believe its cruel to the actor, I believe it is cheating in that the actor cannot possible be in character if their mind is elsewhere. Stella Adler said about the Strasberg method that "Drawing on emotions I experienced, for example, when my mother died to create a role, is sick and schizophrenic. If that is acting, I don't want to do it." Some of what Strasberg says however I do agree with. Besides Strasberg's "affective memory" idea, I agree with everything else he has to say about Method acting. I like the idea of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Personal Characteristics Essay There are many personal characteristics that can affect a person as an individual and his professional success, namely openness, ability to learn and adapt etc. These personal characteristics can sometimes make a person successful and sometimes doesn't. As I spend more and more time as a professional, I perceive that there are few characteristics that are essential for professional success: namely ambitious, creative and adaptable. These characteristics come out in many different ways. Have you set your goals? Have you decided the path you have to take to pursue your goal? What are the sacrifices you can do to achieve your ambition? How much can you think out of the box to resolve a particular issue or bring new idea to the table? How...show more content... This characteristic will motivate me to grow better in my future career as well. I believe that few people have a strong inner feeling that pushes them to think out of the box to identify as issue and find the solution. Personally, I always try to find the most creative solution and do not give up until I get it. Sometime this energy is contagious on to next. I always search for the missing links and fine–tune my thoughts until I reach a point that works. This creativity has steadily driven my ambitions through the organization. Today the world is changing so rapidly and the way it has changed in last few decades, it hasn't changed in last few hundred years. So adaptability has become the need of the hour. I believe that adaptability is the most important quality of all, particularly if one is in technology industry. There have been times when this adaptability has changed the nomenclature of day and night but it has also given me rewards at the appropriate times. Adaptability, personally, has created a far–reaching international outlook and I was able to spend time, living outside my country of origin, working for UK retails giants and this stay not only diversified my work experience but also my cultural experience. It has improved my exposure to diverse situations with increasing levels of complexity and this exposure has increased my eagerness for new challenges. It has instigated a feeling in me that there Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. My Character Essay My character has both opened and closed many doors for me in life. Most of the time you will see that I'm very laid back and relaxed. Independence is one of my key qualities. I never like to bother people with my problems because ultimately they're not always going to be there for you. I roam around in silence; being loud and obnoxious is not something that has ever given me much success in life. I try to conquer a healthy and happy lifestyle, but you know how that usually goes. I am pretty athletic I believe because I have put in so much hard work and dedicated even more time to football throughout my eighteen years of life. My life experiences have given me a rebellious trait. For example, whenever I get yelled at in football by Coach...show more content... I didn't have a great childhood, mainly growing up around drugs, gangs, and gunshots every night, but when I got older my friends were the ones who saved me from all that madness by taking me into their arms and drifting me away from the wrong crowds. Now, I go back and see them and they're those people I thought they would never be. Drugs run far in the public schools of Massachusetts now that I realize it, a lot of my friends are now heavy drug addicts. When you think of drugs in high school, you think of the basic marijuana, but that's not the case. They are doing the real deal, which are heroin and cocaine. They've been sucked into a dark abyss where I can't save them, not because I don't know how, which I do know, but because I'm so far away that what I say over text or social media to them won't ever be enough to try to change their mind. I just wish that one day they realize what wrong they are doing and seek help, come back to the reality of life instead of trying to escape through the imagination world drugs take you to. I guess the only good outcome from all this is the lessons I learn from my family and friends. Seeing their wrong doings have given me a good sense of what to do in life and what not to do, and that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Army Character Development Essay Character Development: Developing the Character of the Army Profession "We want leaders that are tough, resilient, that can think, and out–fight and out–smart the enemy. We want them to be adaptive and agile and flexible. And, we want them not only competent, but we want leaders of character." (General Mark A. Milley, 2015) Character is not a trait we take for granted and most likely have an attraction for, but honestly never had to define when asked about by our superiors and peers. It is a word most Soldiers desire to have their name attached to it, and yet the standards of its realization remains rather vague when spoken about. When the military say that a Soldiers is someone of good character, we mean that they may have many...show more content... Conscientious effort is required to develop and prepare Soldiers and Army Civilians to make right decisions and to take attendant actions (The White Paper, 2016). Leaders are in control of refining the quality of character instilled in Soldiers and DA civilians. How does the military as a whole directly guarantee proper character development to the force, you might ask? Or what should effective leaders do to indoctrinate Army values and characteristics within their ranks? They do so by teaching the Army values to every new recruits from day one of basic training as soon as they step off the bus. Collectively with the multitude of attributes given from our leaders through years of experience and ADRP 1/ADP 6–22; these values have established the groundwork for Soldiers to use as basis of what it is to be a person good character. After members absorb these values, their leaders certify devotion. Abiding to these ethics of the Army values embodies cohesion; it challenges the belief and self–confidence crucial to cooperation and mission success. A Soldiers' moral demeanor must reflect beliefs and principles, not just fear of chastisement from each other. Over time, Soldiers adhere to dedication to the oath and the Army values because they want to live virtuously and truly confine in them because they feel it is a reflective of themselves and who they represent. • 16. The Importance Of Character According to Merriam–Webster, character is "The group of qualities that make a person, group, or thing different from others." Character is the way a person reasons, feels, and acts. It is a state of being and not doing. The choices and decisions that are made when no one is watching typically exemplifies the real you. Most of us tend to make better decisions when others are watching to protect our reputations. For some reason, we want people to think of us in a certain manner; therefore, we behave the way others think we should. I personally know people that act a certain way when others are watching, but behind closed doors they are a completely different person. This is hypocritical behavior. A hypocrite is a person that says one thing and does another. Often times, their words are not consistent with their actions and deeds. A person of integrity will be who they are regardless of where they are and who they are with. They will not change. If you want to test a person's character, just observe how they treat the people whom they have authority or advantage over. Malcolm Forbes, publisher of Forbes magazine, states, "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." Character is one of the most important things we possess. A person's nature and temperament will sustain them and determine the course of their lives. The condition of our hearts can be perceived by our actions, attitudes, reactions, and responses; Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Sympathetic Character Character is defined as the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Every individual person displays certain character traits. Some character traits that I feel set me apart from others and that I demonstrate on a regular basis are being sympathetic and considerate. Being considerate means to be thoughtful and careful to how others feel. Being sympathetic means to have an understanding with someone of a common feeling you both have felt. I feel that I demonstrate these traits everyday. For one instance is when I helped out to mentor some of the younger kids on my baseball team. As one of the oldest kids on my team with the most experience I was able to help teach the younger kids a lot about the game of baseball. No one told me I needed to do this but I took charge and helped out because I remembered when I was in their situation. It was hard to be one of the younger kids who don't know how to do much but what helped was having a peer with more experience who teaches you new things. I helped out the younger kids by teaching them new tricks and helped them improve. I helped them become better players by showing them how to make a certain plays. For example when a lot of the younger kids come up they don't know how to get out of the way of the runner when turning a double play. This is very important...show more content... When one of the younger kids made an error I didn't get mad and yell at him, I encouraged him to keep his head up. The younger kids often will blame someone for losing the game for making an error but in reality we all make mistakes and one play is not the reason for losing the game. I helped keep the team together and showed the younger kids how to play the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Tybalt Character Analysis In "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare, Tybalt says "This, by his voice, should be a Montague. /Fetch me my rapier, boy" (1.V.71–72). Like the quote shows, Tybalt always made abrupt decisions that were for the worse of things in every situation he faced. Tybalt was one of the most feared Capulets because he always looked how he could turn any altercation into a violent one. He did not care for others but cared mainly for his ego. In Act 1 scene 5, we get another perfect example of how Tybalt made decisions with malicious intent. A Montague has upset and "hurt" Tybalt because he believes that a Montague has invaded their party inside the Capulet house. In the play Tybalt states, "This, by his voice, should be a Montague./Fetch me my rapier, boy. What dares the slave/Come hither, cover'd with an antic face,/To fleer and scorn at our solemnity?/Now, by the stock and honour of my kin,/To strike him dead, I hold it not a sin" (1.V.71 –76). He was ready to kill someone that he thought was a Montague, just by listening to their voice. He would have killed him too if it weren't for his uncle, Capulet, who had stopped him just in time or else something bad would have happened and someone, who Tybalt later found to be Romeo. Later in the same scene, Tybalt says "Patience perforce with wilful choler meeting/Makes my flesh tremble in their different greeting./I will withdraw: but this intrusion shall/Now seeming sweet convert to bitter gall" (I.V.119–122). Tybalt vows to get vengeance for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. What Is The Shaping Of My Character In my first essay "The Shaping of My Character" it was a narrative so, it was easier to write this because it was all about my experiences. I wrote it on the Golden Rule and how just witnessing cruelty let me know, that wasn't how I wanted to be. The rule facilitated the women I am today. The essay made me think about a friend I haven't thought about in years. Annie's situation helped me follow the rule "treat others how you want to be treated." Looking back at the essay I could have elaborated on some parts. Development is a fault of mine; I will keep working on that. My topic sentence could've been better. In my second essay "Excessive Force the Ugly Truth," I focused on the term excessive force. I was able to recreate a formal definition Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Character, Morals, Integrity Essay Character, Morals, Integrity Morals, character, integrity, what do these words mean....actually, the question is, do you have them. A man named Dwight Moody once said, "Character is what you are in the dark." You cannot see your morals, character, or integrity, these are only shown as your values. Someone could only show their own values, which are very important to themselves and everyone else. Integrity is the firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values. The way you show your integrity, character, and morals or how they are effect you in either a negative or positive way. There are many causes to how your values are. So as you know, integrity is very important and it is important to have it. First of...show more content... Laura stated, "integrity effects you by either being honest or not. If you are honest, then you have integrity. People who say that they are going to do something do it." You can now see that character, morals, and integrity are very important. Secondly, people may think that their values may not affect them, but they're wrong, they affect them a lot. Since character describes how you are and what your moral strengths are, having bad character could make people dislike you because of how you are. On the other hand, if you have good character, then more people would see how good of a person you are and even more people would like you. Morals sort of describe the way you make decisions, so having bad morals could guide your life down the drain, while having good morals could guide your life minute by minute toward noble goals. Integrity is also very important. Having bad integrity could make you very non–trustworthy to others. Having good integrity would make you very trustworthy to others. Knowing how important they are, you should always have good or even better character, morals, and integrity. Also, there are many causes for how your character, morals, and integrity are. One cause could of course be yourself. By hanging out with the right people and making good decisions, you could have good values. Yet hanging out with the wrong people and making bad decisions would be having bad values. Another cause may Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 21. Definition Essay On Good Character According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, character is defined as, "one of the attribute or features that make up and distinguish an individual" or "a feature used to separate distinguishable things into categories." With these two definitions it becomes easy to apply them to human context. In the first definition it defines character as something that distinguishes an individual. Many things can distinguish you from someone else, this can include but not be limited to, work ethic, grades, respect, responsibility, and honesty. Good character means showing up on time, giving an effort, and so much more. It is the pinnacle of being successful. And keeping up with the world. Good character is that one thing that sets you apart from your opponent., that separates the good guys and the bad guys. Many people will entirely disregard you when no good character is shown, doors will close, opportunities will be wasted, and rejections will be made. But if the opposite is applied the opposite will happen. Doors will open, opportunities will be made, and people will respect you. All this can happen, but it is up to you what will happen. Will you have people respect you, will you create opportunities, or will you have people ignore you, and reject you. This may sound like an easy decision to make, but for many people who don't have the drive to put forth the effort it becomes too strenuous for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
