  1. 1. GPU’s Define what is meant by a Graphics Card: A graphics card basically does maths calculations to make the graphics look better What different types of cards are available in the marketplace and what price ranges do they sell at? There are many different cards and the can range from £50 on the low end and and £300 on high end ones What speeds do the cards run at and what impact does the speed have on the performance of the card? Speeds can improve the performance of computers by a lot and also can let the user boost his graphics setting What is meant by cache and why does a GPU often have it own cache onboard? "Cache" is a specialized form of computer memory. In the case of Internet, "cache" is commonly used in the context of "browser cache". Cache is designed to speed up the computer by prioritizing its contents for quick access. To speed up internet browsing What is the difference between a 2D card and a 3D card (include in your answer details about address/data bus; two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) processors, eg what they can process in terms of pixels, polygons, nurbs)?
  2. 2. "2D graphics" is exactly as it sounds... graphics that only deal in a 2 dimensional space. 3D graphics use a 3d coordinate system and vector graphics to plot/draw things. Because things are in a 3d space, objects can be in front of other objects. Objects can be displayed from a perspective viewpoint in which the further an object is from the viewpoint, the smaller the object will be. Only after all the calculations for the placement, perspective size/angles, lighting, colors, and textures of the objects are made, is the image is rasterized (turned into a flat 2d image that is displayed on the screen.) 3D graphics API's often have many features built in that allow the creation of nice effects such as reflections and light/shading. What GPU is in the PS4 and XB1? Ps4 has x86 PC CPU xbox 1 has Shader Cores: 768
  3. 3. Displays Research the current displays that are used for gaming. Look at both portable gaming and in the home. Create a factsheet that covers :Built-in displays; (displays on pads (VMU) and handhelds) Are the displays liquid crystal? Colour or monochrome? External displays; (Monitors, Televisions, Projectors) resolutions, connectivity Colour or monochrome? 3D
