4. Distributed monitoring consists of the set of activities related to the management of remote
networks located in different physical locations. Issues such as information security (access
and reliability) and network failures (both for loss and performance bottlenecks) are crucial
for monitoring distributed networks.
Distributed Monitoring
Like the IT environment itself, the tools for distributed monitoring are different from the
traditional monitoring tools. When the monitoring tool is not designed to serve distributed
environments, issues such as safety and network failure need to be addressed outside the
tool to ensure the collection and reliability of the monitored information. This technical
peculiarity makes the project more complex and susceptible to failures, since it needs to
meet requirements such as configuration of firewall rules, creation of routes in gateways
and VPN channels.
Distributed networks are characterized by a large volume of assets, considering the sum of
IT infrastructure items in their different (local) sites. Between services and devices to be
monitored, we can mention servers, storages, operating systems, databases, backups and
diverse applications.
5. Distributed Monitoring
Attentive to the global transformations in the corporate universe, IT professionals have to
develop a new generation platforms for distributed monitoring and with Zabbix it is
possible to reach the goals imposed either by geographic distances or by network
differences.
Scalable and designed with multi-enterprise architecture, the correct configuration of
Zabbix allows the centralized management of distributed environments.
This means that the monitoring of different geographic units is optimized at several levels.
With a single console, the IT team - in the central unit and with its technical teams
distributed (NOC/SOC) - the possibility of network management with security, agility and
practicality becomes something real.
