Many youth leaders are compelled to do work with community based non-profit and local public health agencies as both a service learning and philanthropic component in their development as young professionals. However, despite invaluable experiential learning, students often don\'t comprehend key overarching issues such as health disparities, social determinants of health, health policy and community organizing. To address this gap and optimize their community based work, the Health Disparities Student Collaborative (HDSC), a Boston-based student group under Critical MASS for eliminating health disparities and the Center for Community Health Education Research and Service Inc. (CCHERS), developed a curriculum for students designed to broaden their perspectives while working with local public health, non-profit/community organizations and to develop their interest and ability to visualize the power of their collective voice as students and contributors to social justice work. The curriculum utilizes peer education and webinar software and covers three main topics: Current State of Health Disparities, Social Determinants of Health, and Youth Activism on Health Disparities/Social Determinants of Health. HDSC has collaborated with local partners CCHERS/Critical MASS and the Community Based Public Health Caucus (CBPHC) Youth Council to develop this comprehensive “Health Equality Peer Education” training.

This article is about social isolation and food insecurity among the rural old people in Kenya. The Kenya policy on aging (2008) sets a framework of addressing the welfare of the aged. The cradle of this policy is twofold: One is the emerging trend of diminishing roles of the elderly people in contributing to national income and two is the weakening of the traditional social structures which provided for welfare including welfare services for the aged. The study sought to answer the following specifi c questions: To want extent are the rural old socially connected? And what is the level of Food Security for rural citizens aged 60 and above? The objectives of the study were to determine the social networks and therefore, social capital citizens aged 60 and above have and to assess the level of Food Security of rural citizens aged 60 and above. A total of 117 elderly people (age 60 and above) were randomly sampled. Data was collected using. interview a schedules which was designed to capture information on social isolation and sources of food consumed. To test Food Security level, a modifi ed Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS) score was used. The fi ndings of this study was that only 43 percent of the old people are living with a relative in the same house. The rest (57) where living alone. It was established that 82 percent purchased food from the market. On food consumption there was 100 percent skewness towards grains and cereals (every person reported to be consuming this on a daily basis). On average the older persons in this study have a score of 4.04 X10/9 = 4.5 and falling in the class of food insecure without hunger based on the classifi cation scale.

Overview: Join Dr. Faiza in this in-depth lecture on cardiac impulse and the rhythmical excitation of the heart. This presentation covers the intricate pathways and mechanisms that ensure the efficient conduction of electrical impulses through the heart, leading to coordinated myocardial contractions. Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the normal sequence of cardiac depolarization, the specialized conductive pathways, and the ionic basis of pacemaker potentials. Learning Objectives: Trace the normal sequence of cardiac depolarization via specialized conductive pathways and cardiac myocytes. Illustrate the velocity of conduction of cardiac impulses through these pathways. Draw and label a typical pacemaker action potential. Describe the ionic basis of various phases of the pacemaker potential. Key Topics: Generation of Impulse: Mechanisms of rhythmical excitation in the heart. Conduction of Impulse: How impulses are transmitted and why atrial syncytium contracts ahead of ventricular syncytium. Specialized Excitatory & Conductive System: Detailed examination of the SA node, AV node, bundle branches, and Purkinje fibers. SA Nodal Action Potential: Phases of pacemaker potential, ionic movements, and self-excitation mechanisms. Transmission Pathways: Role of anterior and posterior fascicles, internodal, and interatrial pathways. Clinical Significance: Implications of delayed conduction and conditions like Stokes-Adams syndrome and ectopic pacemakers. Target Audience: This lecture is tailored for medical students, physiology scholars, healthcare professionals, and anyone interested in cardiac physiology and the mechanisms of cardiac impulse conduction. It is particularly beneficial for those preparing for exams or seeking to enhance their clinical knowledge in Applied physiology of cardiovascular system and internal medicine.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) in physiotherapy uses clinical experience, patient values, and the best available evidence to inform decision-making. It promotes critical evaluation of research to ensure that interventions are effective and suited to individual patient requirements. It also improves treatment outcomes, promotes patient-centered care, and increases the profession's credibility.
