3. Alpha and Omega: beginning and end of the Greek alphabet – symbolises that God is the beginning and end of everything. The chalice: Can represent the blood of Jesus as it is used in Holy Communion/mass. The chalice is also a symbol of Jesus’ suffering – in the garden of Gethsemane he asked God: “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me.” Lion of Judah- in Christianity it refers to Jesus. Jesus is believed to be a descendant of the Tribe of Judah from the Old Testament. The book of Revelation refers to Jesus as a lion: “Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah! Agnus Dei is a Latin term meaning Lamb of God , and refers to Jesus Christ in his role of the perfect sacrificial offering that atones for the sins of humanity.
