2. How to SMILE
from the bottom by a
hopelessly optimistic
Junior Designer.
3. THE MID-JUNIOR
DESIGNER CRISIS
This is when
enthusiasm meets
reality and you are
left with a negative
attitude. Here are
some steps to get
your POSTIVE
persona back and
onto a path to doing
GREAT THINGS!
4. STEP 1:
SUCK IT UP!
If you WANT IT bad
enough you would have
made it happen by now.
Don’t blame anyone
but yourself for doing
uninspired work.
BE your own inspiration!
5. STEP 2:
BE IMPOSSIBLE
TO IGNORE.
Steal briefs from the
printer, mock up your own
responses. Be proactive.
Ask so many questions
that you end up knowing
more than almost
everyone in your studio.
Remember you are not
brilliant if the only person
you show your work to is
your mum.
6. STEP 3: EYE ON THE PRIZE
Write where you want to
be in five years in big,
bold letters and tape it
over your desk. Write it
again on a small piece of
paper and put it in your
wallet. Soon it won’t be
where you want to be
BUT where I WILL be in
five years. If you don’t
fully, 100 % believe that
you’re the next big thing
than why would anyone
else.
7. STEP 4:
SMILE
Smiles are
contagious even to
the grumpiest
senior copywriter,
the most hung over
art director or the
most stressed out
account manager.
SO SMILE.
8. STEP 5: BE YOURESELF
It is cheesy I know but be true to
who you are in your work, in your
relationships with people, and I
believe that one day you will wake
up and be doing exactly what you
always dreamed of doing. In the
advertising industry there are
enough fake and arrogant
personality, to stand out be
yourself. Be vulnerable. Be willing.
Take criticism, but don’t let it take
over who you are. And you will
stand apart from the crowd.
