To talk about designing and implementing REDD+ in Peru first of all we have to understand the Peruvian national and forestry context.
To talk about designing and implementing REDD+ in Peru first of all we have to understand the Peruvian national and forestry context.
These grafics show some national socioeconomic indicators and trends. The first grafic we can see the peruvian economy is having a stable performance. Whith a long term growth path of 5 % per year whish is mainly based in non renewable natural resources as mining for example. - And how this is contributing to the poverty reduction and in a dinamic enviroment of social and institutional changes that also include the forestry sector and the environment sector .
Some highliths of the peruvian forestry sector are: More than 69 million has of forest (which is mear the 60 % of the national territory) we are the second country in the amazon basin in extension of tropical forest. we are the forth country with more tropical forest in the world after Brasil, Indonesia and DRC.
The deforestation rates of Peru apparently are no so high in comparison with some other countries (0.2 % between nineteen eighty five and two thounsed) The official data about rates of deforestation and causes of deforestation and forest degradation is not actual. nevertheless what we know is that there are lots of plausible investments that are looking the peruvian amazon. We all know that this investment will contribute to the economic development of the country and to keep the socieconomic indicators in that path showed before
In this context we are triying to develop a plausible conceptual framework to implement REDD+ and promote private and public investments in forest conservation and carbon related bussinesses. In that sense we are adapting initial ideas and discussions about the nested to our national context and trying to develop a framework simple and flexible enough that could be implemented in Peru. Avoiding complexities that can not be applied on the ground.
The peruvian approach consider implement REDD as part of a National Forest Conservation Program “ the umbrella ” . This is a new program recently lounched by the Ministry of environment. This aims to conservate 54 millions has of forest.
