This document discusses research on the creative industries workforce in Australian suburbs. It finds that contrary to assumptions, many creative workers choose to live and work in suburbs rather than inner cities. Interviews with 130 creative workers found that factors like space, lower costs, and serenity were motivations rather than necessity. While master planned communities struggled, more established suburbs supported creative networks. The research challenges views that creative industries require inner urban clusters, and implications for recognizing suburban cultural production.
