2. What it looked like then… The first of the Georgian docks was the West India (opened 1802), followed by the London (1805), the last dock to be opened was the King George in 1921. The docks specialised in high-value commodities such as ivory, spices, coffee and cocoa and even things like wool and wine. The docks were finally closed to shipping in 1969 and sold to the borough of Tower Hamlets, however in 1981 the land was acquired by the London Docklands Development Corporation…

5. The London Docklands Development Corporation The London Docklands Development Corporation was an agency set up by the UK government to regenerate the depressed area of the docklands. During eighteen years the agency helped to create Canary Wharf, Surrey Quays shopping centre, London City airport and many more thing, bringing more than 120,000 new jobs to the area.

7. Transport… Through Canary Wharf runs a train system called the DLR (Docklands Light Railway). The trains are automatically driven and come almost every two minutes. This is a very efficient and quick way to bring passengers in and out of Canary Wharf.
