Julio Nakpil composed "Marangal na Dalit ng Katagalugan", the first Philippine National Anthem, at the request of Andres Bonifacio. Nakpil married Gregoria de Jesus, the widow of Bonifacio. The lyrics refer to the whole country rather than just Tagalog regions. This anthem could have become the official national anthem instead of "Lupang Hinirang" if history had unfolded differently.
