3. SUMMARY
• In the not-too-distant future, a less-than-perfect man wants to travel to the
stars. Society has categorized Vincent Freeman as less than suitable given his
genetic make-up and he has become one of the underclass of humans that
are only useful for menial jobs. To move ahead, he assumes the identity of
Jerome Morrow, a perfect genetic specimen who is a paraplegic as a result of
a car accident. With professional advice, Vincent learns to deceive DNA and
urine sample testing. Just when he is finally scheduled for a space mission, his
program director is killed and the police begin an investigation, jeopardizing
his secret. However, he succeed to escape the accusation until the police
found the real murderer. He also settled for the last time with his brother,
Anton to convince him that he was able to do what he want to do. Finally he
proceed his mission to go to space which once happen to be his dream.
4. DESIGN
• The film borrows many design and thematic ideas from the film noir genre, making
the film a notable example of tech noir. The movie uses a swimming treadmill in the
opening minutes to punctuate the swimming and futuristic themes. The futuristic
turbine cars are based on 1960s car models like Rover P6, Citroën DS19 and
Studebaker Avanti, and futuristic buildings represent modern architecture of the
1950s.

1. GENETIC ENGINEERING
- parents dictate the genetic makeup of their child.
- the embryo are screened for disease, addiction and any other undesirable
qualities and so-called “Valid” is produced.
2. BIOMETRIC SECURITY TECHNOLOGY
- technology used for measuring and analyzing individuals’ charastics in
terms of physiological and behaviorial characteristics.
- used to accurately identify individuals on unique traits.
