Fostering Friendships - Enhancing Social Bonds in the Classroom
Lews Castle Museum & Archive vision
1.
2. VISION FOR MUSEUM NAN EILEAN
• The new vision is defined by what we do.
• We will operate in a dynamic way in which
communities work together to preserve,
interpret, and manage their dispersed
heritage assets for a sustainable future.
3. • Be a museum of the people for the people,
which is representative of all the communities
and islands of the Outer Hebrides.
• Provide a service that will build strong
partnerships with community heritage groups
and recognise the unique role of Comainn
Eachdraidh as custodians of local heritage
• Safeguard the collections of the Outer Hebrides
and make them accessible for the benefit of the
present and future generations
• Raise the local, national and global profile of
the environment and cultural heritage of the
Outer Hebrides
4. • Encourage people to explore the links
between the interconnected heritage sites,
Comainn Eachdraidh collections, and the
natural and historic environment which tell
the stories of the Outer Hebrides.
• Inspire, build confidence and stimulate
cultural activity throughout the island chain
• Build confidence in the local culture and the
Gaelic language while respecting diversity
and embracing change
5. Next steps
1. What steps to we need to take next, to get
the network off the ground?
2. How should the network be structured?
What roles need to be in place, and which
designated people/bodies will have authority
to act in these roles?
3. What ideas do you have for possible
collaborative projects? What are the priority
areas of activity that the network can
address?
