Stay safe even with your passwords out in the wild

A security breach named "Heartbleed" has put passwords, credit cards and other sensitive data at risk. It affects OpenSSL versions 1.0.1 through 1.0.1f which concern 2/3 of the Web.

In this deck I explain how to protect yourself against Heartbleed and about now our days security threats by using 2-factor authentication.

  3. 3. For affected websites, their secure connections containing user password and credit card information were exposed.
  4. 4. Even before Heartbleed, passwords were not enough to protect you...
  5. 5. ...No matter how complex, long and unique your passwords were.
  6. 6. Here are just a few of the ways your password can be stolen: leaked user database social engineering phishing unsafe HTTPS connection
  7. 7. Fortunately for you, there is a solution!
  8. 8. Multi-factor authentication ! You can find each compatible service's app/token device list on their websites
  9. 9. To connect to your account you'll need: username and password + token-generated number !
  10. 10. Now, even if your password is leaked No one can access your account ! !
  11. 11. Most of your favorite websites support it, too.
