The United Nations General Assembly declared 21st June as the International Day of Yoga. The call was initially made by Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi during his address to UN General Assembly.

He further explains the story behind yoga. “21st June is the
day of summer solstice. Adiyogi, the first yogi, turned south
and set his eyes on Seven Sages who were his disciples to
carry the science of yoga across the world.”

The support for an International Yoga Day was tremendous
as 175 countries co-sponsored the resolution.
Addressing thousands of people gathered at Chandigarh’s
Capitol Complex, PM Narendra Modi launched the 2nd
International Yoga Day celebrations on Tuesday.

“Over 30000 people were estimated to have participated in
the event. The theme of this year was “Connect the Youth,”
adds Vaikundarajan.
In today’s stress filled times, yoga can bring a much
needed balance to life. “To be recognized as an
International Day, this is a proud moment for us,”
