Nauchandi Mela, the fact of the matter is that this is one of the biggest, most colourful and interesting fairs
anywhere in the country. Held for all of a month after Holi, the Nauchandi Mela is held on a 4 sq km area,
crowded and colourful as can be. The area's crisscrossed by pathways; and all through are put up
hundreds of stalls selling handicrafts and machine-made products from all across India. Textiles,
perfumes, jewellery, furniture, ceramics, glassware, leather- the list is endless. Giant wheels, games,
nautankis and cultural performances add to the ambience. Performances of music and dance have, in fact,
become an important part of the Nauchandi Mela, The management of the mela is striking. It has over a
thousand stalls, and plays host to over 80,000-90000 people every day.
4. Navratri Mela

The area covers the districts of Mirzapur, Sonbhadra and Chandauli in the state of
Uttar Pradesh in India. They are occasions of spiritual relevance celebrated with
undying faith. Twice a year, Navratri is a special splash of colour, sound and fragrance
to celebrate Shakti-Puja in Vindhyachal. Navratri, Makar Sankranti, Holi, Dushehra,
Shivratri, the month of Savan, are all joyous occasions to bathe in festive gaiety here.
5. Devi Patan Temple, Tulsipur
Devi Patan is a very famous temple situated in Tulsipur, which is around 25 Kms
from the district headquarters of Balrampur. It is the temple of Ma Pateshwari and
goes by the name Devi Patan. The temple is one of the famous 51 Shakti Peethas of
Ma Durga.
It is said that the right shoulder (called as Pat in hindi), of Mata Sati had fallen here
and hence it is also one of the Shakti Peetha and is called as Devi Patan. It is a place
of great religious importance and one of the prominent temple of terai region.
Temple is of great religious importance and there is lot of rush during Navratra
period.
People also come here for head shaving ceremony of their Kids (also called as
Mundan) or to donate hair in case Mundan is done some where else. Its considered
sacred to donate hair here.
