19. Earth Voyage offers unique educational experiences that integrate Science, Geography, Math, and History in a fun, hands-on way. Our water program, Water Is Life , engages participants in a series of cooperative activities that explore humanity’s relationship to water by physically graphing the human population with color-coded foam blocks that show access to clean water as well as regional trends in daily use.
20. The WOW challenge builds on the Water Is Life program and is designed to remove the orange from the world. This is the game. Once the map is full blue , the game will be declared won.

WOW, the World Olympiad of Water. It’s a daylong ‘feedback festival’ that helps solve the world’s water crisis through play. WOW, its time is now. (picture of BPR and EV logos) Blue Planet Run is a California–based non-profit that sponsors races to raise funds for clean water projects globally. (pictures of runners from BPR site) Earth Voyage, a North Carolina-based non-profit, is an associate of the Buckminster Fuller Institute based in New York City. (picture of BFI logo) Buckminster Fuller was the designer of the geodesic dome and the ‘dymaxion’ projection world map. (picture of Bucky, the dome and the map) He also developed a ‘world game’ based upon equitable distribution of resources and even taught at Black Mountain College. (picture of Bucky and the game, picture of Bucky at Black Mt.) Earth Voyage owes much to Fuller, particularly his dymaxion map and his idea of a world game. Earth Voyage employs a gym-sized version of the map as the basis of its Water Is Life program. (picture of the EV map) In Water Is Life , students graph world population distribution with one hundred orange cones. To represent populations with access to clean water, students replace orange cones for blue. The cones that remain orange, about one fifth, represent populations who do not have access to clean=2 0water. (picture of participants doing Water Is Life) In Water Is Life , students not only participate in a two and half hour educational experience that conforms to a number of state and national sixth through eighth grade learning standards, but also receive an invitation for themselves and their families back to Blue Ridge Assembly on May 16 th for WOW, an event limited to the first eight hundred participants.
