This document provides an overview of several databases for finding evidence-based medical information, including the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR), Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE), PubMed Clinical Queries, and ACP PIER in STAT!Ref. It describes the types of information contained in each database, such as systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and how to access them through the UMKC Health Sciences Library website.

4. These include all Cochrane Reviews (and protocols) prepared by the 50 Cochrane Review Groups in The Cochrane Collaboration. They investigate the effects of interventions for prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. Each systematic review addresses a clearly formulated question; for example: Can antibiotics help alleviate the symptoms of a sore throat? All the existing primary research on a topic that meets certain criteria is searched for and collated, and then assessed using stringent guidelines, to establish whether or not there is conclusive evidence about a specific treatment. 5. Format of Cochrane Systematic Review: A title, citation details, and contact addresses. An abstract in a structured format. The text of the review, consisting of: an introduction (background and objective), materials (selection criteria and search strategy) and methods, results (description of studies, methodological quality, and results), discussion, and conclusions. Standard tables and figures, showing: characteristics of the included studies, specification of the interventions that were compared, the results of the included studies, and a log of the studies that were excluded. 6. DARE complements the CDSR by quality-assessing and summarizing reviews that have not yet been carried out by the Cochrane Collaboration. DARE records cover topics such as diagnosis, prevention, rehabilitation, screening, and treatment. DARE also includes reviews of the wider determinants of health such as housing, transport, and social care where these impact directly on health, or have the potential to impact on health. DARE covers a broad range of health related interventions and thousands of abstracts of reviews in fields as diverse as diagnostic tests, public health, health promotion, pharmacology, surgery, psychology, and the organization and delivery of health care.
