One day during my sophomore year of high school while I was waiting for my class to start, I
decided to explore new genres of music and artists that I haven't listened to before. I was sitting on
the floor outside of my classroom searching through Spotify for something new and exciting. After
looking through the Classic Rock section on Spotify, I came across the band Queen. Since that
moment, I have been and avid Queen listener and have listened to all their songs. I have been
particularly fond of their albums The Game, The Miracle and Night at the Opera.
The first Queen song I heard was Bohemian Rhapsody from the album Night at the Opera. It was
around 7:45 am, the morning was very still and quiet and the sky was clear. My surroundings
became increasingly louder as the school day was about to begin and it was a cool morning unlike
the typical Floridian morning weather. After scrolling through various Queen songs on Spotify, I
stumbled upon as song I have heard about through friends but not listened to: Bohemian Rhapsody.
Just like the eerily still morning, the exposition of the song was smooth and relaxed. The beginning
of the song sounded like there were many voices in harmony and the hazy, smooth timbre resonated
in my ear buds. The lyrics of the song matched with the eerie quality of the voices, the lyrics
indicate that the singers are in some state of confusion and are unclear of their surroundings. The

All throughout the summer a song was constantly blasting through speakers singing about blurred
lines, but what lines are being blurred?
Blurred Lines is a popular summer song that is constantly played on the radio. A song like "Blurred
Lines" should not be played on public radio. A big problem with "Blurred Lines" is that it attempts
to normalize disrespectful behavior towards women. Robin Thicke teamed up with rapper T.I. and
singer–producer Pharrell to deliver arguably this summer's most popular song. The song "Blurred
Lines" has placed number one on the billboard hot 100 and has sold over one million copies.
Critical reception of the track is mostly positive. Yet with the success comes a not so positive
response. When first listening to the song a person might find themselves nodding your head to a

There are many types of music, known as geners, that people prefer to listen. Many people may
like country while the other person like Jazz. Me on the other hand, like several types of music
genres. The music i find most appealing is the soul in R&B, the notes and keys artsist hit in gospel,
the beat and rhythm in instrumentals, and the flow and lyrics in rap music.
R&B soul is or can be a calm genre to listen to when you are in your feelings. These types of artist
talks about how they feel and what they feel when they write music. Most of the time it is a love

Ed Sheeran, thinks of his music not just his song, but someone's first dance at a wedding or
someone's late night feel. His lyrics can carry you right into the story and can touch the lives of
so many people. There are a lot of feelings behind his songs, he plays the guitar and it is like you can
feel the emotions being felt in the songs. A lot of people can relate to the stuff he sings about, his
lyrics are powerful and it is one of a kind. It is from his heart and his own experience. His songs
always leave everyone with tears on their eyes or a smile on their face.
Every one of his songs has multiple purposes. His song "Photograph" is not just about fixing a
relationship with your partner, it is more about restoring the relationship with your family, and
making memories with your love on, more specifically Ed and his mother. The song was
recorded for his X album in 2014, the song was released on a mobile device application known as
the iTunes store 20 June 2014, the single was released 11 May 2015 after the music video was
released 9 May 2015 on YouTube. The music video features real home footage taken from old
family movies of Ed Sheeran. Giving us insight into his private early life, the clips take viewers on

With all the sadness in the world, where have the blues gone? Blues music is one of the most
creative and expressive genres out there, yet it is wildly underappreciated among younger
generations. They are unaware of the beauty and history of the misunderstood genre. In order to

all they have to do is put in some effort and look for it, and the truth can be found. By yelling at the
masses to "testify", the song is telling people to be critical of what they hear and what is shown in

We live in a world where social issues are all around us. One social issue I would like to focus on,
however, is gender equality. This was a huge issue in the past and has gotten gradually better, but is
still something people 'fight' for. Especially for woman, who have come so far in today's society. In
the past, many woman were seen as inferior to men and many songs written back then represent
this well. Some of those songs from the 1960's include; "You don't own me" by Lesley Gore and

created as a result of mankind's strict focus on society. An indie pop band by the name of Fun. have
taken this concern and made it the subject of a song called Some Nights. This song depicts and
acknowledges the existence of a social hierarchy and the world's fixation on reaching the top of it.
This song also demonstrates the Marxist theory which states that one's self–conscious is determined
by one's social existence. Simply put, with little social power, one cannot be sure of whom they are.

where power is present. Let's be honest, how many times have we heard of people who are
virtually unknown to the world suddenly come to power in a number of areas? Exactly. You can
count them on your fingers. This is one of the reasons for mankind's dependence on social
adequacy. In order to gain power in many areas, you must have first acquired power in society, the
greatest power of all. Climbing up this non–existent, intangible social ladder, Karl Marx's theory on
the self–conscious' dependence on social existence and the power of social omnipotence in external
affairs are all examples of how this world has taken a Marxist turn in not–so–recent years. Social
adequacy seems to be everything now. All in all, this Marxist world of ours is subject to what
society deems important or suitable in our lives. The sad truth is that this aspect is so deeply
imbued within our lives that it has become a sub–conscious thing to mind our actions in every way;
just so that we may get that much more social or gain that much more status. In everything,,
everywhere there are Marxist inferences. In politics, in school, at work...even at home! In all
honesty, have you ever completely not cared about your place in society, even sub–consciously?
