Romeo And Juliet Friendship Essay
The Power of True Friendship in Romeo and Juliet
Woodrow T. Wilson once said, "Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle
of self–sacrifice." Friendship is almost always a promise of sacrifice, a risk driven by strong
emotion. This can be seen within every true friendship one could imagine. Whether sacrifice is
sprung from love or hate, it is always promised in friendship. In the play, Romeo and Juliet,
playwright William Shakespeare shows that true love is worth sacrificing everything for through
Mercutio, Romeo, and the nurse's characters. To begin, William Shakespeare shows how true friends
are worth dying for through Mercutio's character. Mercutio, Romeo's best friend, always wanted the
best for him, and...show more content...
Juliet's relationship with the nurse was far more powerful than hers with her own mother, as she
always went to her when she was going through rough times growing up. Shakespeare shows the
love and devotion of true friendship through the nurse's character. The nurse risks losing her job to
make Juliet happy. Although she knows that Juliet and Romeo's love is forbidden by their
families, she allows and supports Juliet in her decision regardless. The morning after Romeo and
Juliet met, the nurse served as Juliet's messenger and arranged her marriage with Romeo: "Good
heart and i' faith will tell her as much. / Lord, Lord, she will be a joyful woman" (II.iv.177–178).
This quote shows that true friendship is more powerful than anything and when one is happy, the
other is happy for them. A true friend is willing to risk anything for the other's happiness.
Additionally, after finding Juliet "dead" in her bedroom, the nurse is struck with depression. The
nurse shows her despair, saying that the day of Juliet's "death" was the most discouraging day of her
entire life: "O woe, o woeful, woeful, woeful day! / Most lamentable day, most woeful day / that
ever, ever I did yet behold" (IV.v.55
–57). One cannot live without friendship; if love or friendship is
prevented, it can lead to depression. This shows how influential true friendship can be and the
difference it can make in one's life. Evidently, true friendship is about

Romeo and Juliet as a Tragedy Essay
Romeo and Juliet as a Tragedy Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, which was written by William
Shakespeare in 1599. The Elizabethans totally believed in fate, they believed that your destiny was
fated. They also believed that fate was fickle, it could change, one day everything would be good
and the next day things could be really bad. If you challenged fate, it would take up the challenge. If
it wasn't fate there are many more things which could have caused the tragedy; the feud, this means
that everything that happens in Verona ends in violence, Friar Lawrence, shouldn't have married
them and shouldn't have suggested such a dangerous plan, which was playing with their lives, the
Nurse should have...show more content...
Also the nurse agrees to be the go between, she thinks she has no choice because she is the servant
and Juliet is the boss 'I am the drudge and toil in your delight'. Romeo and Juliet meet at the
balcony and Juliet proposes to Romeo, so he goes to the friar to arrange the marriage. The friar
marries them, when he wouldn't normally marry to people from different families because of the
feud but this time he does. He doesn't want to at first, but he changes his mind as he thinks it may
end the quarrel between the two families. But after they have got married; fate seems to turn
against them. During the marriage ceremony Romeo says that now he has married Juliet nothing
can go wrong. This challenges fate. When the fight starts Mercutio and Tybalt are only messing
around but Romeo reminds them about the prince's decree. It is in this fight scene when fate starts
to work against Romeo because when he steps in to stop the fight there is an accident and Mercutio
gets killed. 'A plague a' both your houses! They have made worms' meat of me'. Mercutio curses
both houses because he also blames Romeo for getting in the way. Romeo should report this to the
prince but instead he starts fighting with Tybalt and this is serious because he reacts with his
emotions and wants revenge. 'O I am fortunes fool' Romeo thinks that fate just wants to

Act 2 Scene 2 of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet
'Act 2, scene 2 is one of the most important scenes in the play. Explain why it is so vital in showing
the play's themes, emotions, characterisation and situation.
Focus particularly on how Shakespeare's stagecraft, imagery and language help to bring out the
moral and social significance of the play'
Act 2, scene 2 is a vital scene in Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' because the key themes and issues
of love and hate are discussed and explored. The result of this is that the couple decided to marry, a
fateful decision, and therefore a key point. This is unexpected, as their families have been feuding
for many years. By planning to wed...show more content...
The relationship with the story is that this show that he is willing to disown his family, take up a
new name if Juliet will say that she loves him; deny thy father and refuse thy name; or if thou wilt
not, be but sworn my love, and I'll no longer be a Capulet'. The symbolism of baptism shows a purity
and youth of their relationship. This is significant because it shows Romeo's commitment and that he
wants to be with her whatever the cost. This links in wit the other religious imagery, referring to
Juliet as an 'angel' and mentioning 'idolatry' again showing the transcendent nature of their love.
Before this scene the romantic kiss at the ball suggests that they love each other already, they
engage in their 'holy palmer's kiss', sealing their passionate love. The fight between the families at
the start shows that the families share a mutual hate, Shakespeare has structured this scene to
juxtapose the elements of love and hate in the play. Romeo and Juliet choose love but the hatred of
their relatives is always a problem. Juliet warns that 'the place death, considering who thou art', but
Romeo says 'more peril lies in thine eyes than twenty of their swords' this shows the debate of love
and hate again. By Romeo sneaking into the Capulet grounds, the balcony dialogue and then them
almost being caught, tension is built up as these

Relationships in Romeo and Juliet Essay
In this essay, I will be examining Shakespeare's treatment of relationships in Romeo and Juliet. As
a poet and playwright, he wrote 154 sonnets, 2 long narrative poems and 38 plays, one of his most
famous plays being Romeo and Juliet. There are many different types of relationships between
characters, and these are essential to the play. The prologue tells us that the play is about two
star–crossed lovers from two feuding families, the Montagues and Capulets. There is hatred between
these two families, this explains this, 'Thou villain Capulet'. This quote suggests because of the hate
between their families, the lovers are doomed from the start.
Romeo's relationship with Rosaline shows he is deeply infatuated and passionate. In act 1,...show

He uses rhyming couplets, 'as a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear, Beauty too rich for use, for earth too
dear'. This suggests his love for her is so powerful, it changes the way he speaks. Romeo also uses
religious imagery to describe Juliet, such as 'This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this.' He compares
her to a shrine which shows how their love is pure and how he worships her. This shows he has
confused his love with religion. In act 1, scene 4 Romeo says, 'I fear, too early, my mind misgives
some consequences yet hanging in the stars.' This suggests that he feels something is going to go
wrong, which shows that their relationship is doomed from the start. In Elizabethan times people
were superstitious and thought that their lives were mapped out in the stars. If you tried to change
your destiny it was considered a sin. They also believed that their lives were planned by the wheel
of fortune. Philosopher, Boethius proposed a theory of that people can rise in power of luck, but; it
has to come down. In act 3, scene 5 Juliet refers to this. 'O fortune, fortune! All men call thee fickle.'
Juliet and Lord Capulet at first have a caring relationship but soon after Tybalt's death this changes.
It was planned that she would marry Paris when she was fifteen but after her cousin's death, the
marriage is brought forward. In Shakespearean times, it is not unusual for girls to have marriages
arranged by their parents and also to

Compare And Contrast Romeo And Juliet Essay
Romeo and Juliet Essay Do you love someone? Is that someone, your spouse or significant other,
or is that person one of your parents or even someone else? Well whoever it is you would most
likely give something up for them, right? With love, it can be beautiful, but also love can be
consequential. Obviously, you would take chances for that person, but surely some of those
choices will backfire and do more harm than help. Also, if you are a secretive and keep your
feelings separated from other people you care about they might start feeling like you don't actually
care. Finally, love is fantastic, but the truth lies in how much you are willing to give up. In Romeo
and Juliet, Romeo takes many chances to be with Juliet; this including marrying...show more

Juliet kept being in love with Romeo confidential from her parents. Soon her parents realized
something was up and made her comply to marry Paris (Act 4, Scene 1). What this symbolizes is
that people who care for you could and will be hurt by what you keep from them. Again Juliet
acted this way out of love for Romeo. Love, the beginning is great, but then it comes to truth and
true feelings on what you can give up for the person that you "love". Some people would give up
time with friends or time with family. In Romeo and Juliet's case, they gave up their lives (Act 5,
Scene 3). This just shows how "in love" Romeo and Juliet were. However, different people will
cut out different things for the ones they love. Romeo and Juliet indeed love each other and gave
up their lives for each other. Love can be the greatest feeling in the world, but also comes with
unexpected consequences. The chances you take can backfire, other people in your life could start
questioning the care you feel for them, and it comes down to how much you are willing to give up
to gain appreciation of them. What would you surrender and what chances would you take for the
one you

Character Analysis of Romeo Essay
Character Analysis of Romeo Romeo and Juliet is a tale of two star–crossed lovers who in their love
for each other were willing to sacrifice their lives. Romeo is a very temperamental person; his
character develops considerably throughout the play in various ways. In this essay I shall be
looking closely at Romeo's character, his intentions & abilities and his relationship with other
characters in the play. In the conversation between Benvolio and Montague in act 1 scene 1, we
learn that Romeo is behaving strangely and avoiding his friends, "Towards him I made, but he was
ware of me and stole into the covert of the woods." In this sentence Benvolio is explaining to Lady
Montague that when...show more content...
Meaning that she does not love him and she has Dian's wit. Dian is the goddess of hunting and
chasity, she avoids Cupid's arrows ; from this we learn that Rosaline has no intention of loving
him or any other man. This is further proven when Romeo confirms Benvolio's question that she
has sworn to remain a virgin. Romeo goes on to say that his love is misplaced because Rosaline
has rejected him. Romeo compares his love to Rosaline as a devote religion. His words seem
mature which belies his actions, which is often irresponsible and immature. Even when his love
has been rejected, Romeo still feels heavy with the burden of love. His friends didn't take his love
seriously, they thought it was humorous, silly and later on exasperating. Romeo is hurt by
Rosaline 's rejections and perhaps by his friends' indifference towards his love. We learn this
when he quotes "... love pricks like thorn...". But Mecrutio does not feel melancholy about love.
He views love in a physical sense more than emotional, he advises rather crudely " If love be
rough with you, be rough with love". Romeo's actions and words in act 1 scene 5 make us doubt
if he has been in love at all, or just thinking pretending to be in love. He himself doubts it "did my
heart love till now? Foreswear it, sight for I ne, er saw true beauty till this night." By his words we
gather that He

Romeo And Juliet Compared To Today
The story of Romeo and Juliet can be compared to modern lives of teenagers, by comparing their
actions, personalities and emotions.
Juliet never agreed with her parents and always wanted to do things her own way. Capulet and Lady
Capulet where only doing their jobs as her parents to help her out. Through their eyes they where just
being helpful to Juliet by finding her a suitable Husband. However Juliet disagreed with many of
their ideas. These situations may resemble teens today and how they rebel against their parents even
though they might only be guiding them with good judgment.
Juliet chooses her words carefully while talking to Count Paris so that she doesn't commit herself to
him or say that she doesn't want to be his wife. This deceiving word play is copied by teenagers in
the present day. They also talk themselves out of a tuff situation by misleading whoever they are
talking to. This could be with relationships, school work or teachers. Personally I find that this is
common and teenagers speak in certain ways that will benefit them....show more content...

Essay On The Conflict Between Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare's play, "Romeo and Juliet," takes place in Verona
– a city in Italy which is
governed by a prince. There is also a Friar named Laurence, who is a religious figure that citizens
go to for advice and to be married. In the City lives the Capulets and the Montagues who have been
disputing for generations. Both families have children and one child from each family are the
protagonists– Romeo is a member of the Montagues and Juliet is a member of the Capulets. Romeo
and Juliet will end up falling for each other. However, they end up dying young because Friar

and Romeo's suicides, and he trusted Friar John to deliver the letter and...show more content...
You can see the "Two households, both alike in dignity" (Act I PROLOGUE) fight even when
they are so similar. The conflict of the two households quarreling arises when Romeo meets Juliet
at the Capulet's party and they both fall for each other at first sight hence the phrase "love at first
sight". At the time, religion was very important so when Romeo would talk about Juliet, he
would say "Oh, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do. They pray; grant thou, lest faith turn to
despair" (ACT I SCENE V). In this time, Romeo is asking for Juliet to kiss her because when you
pray, your hands touch; and Romeo wants to do with lips what hands do. This comparison shows
the connection from everyday life to religion, which is part of the reason Romeo went to Friar
Laurence. Romeo and Juliet are also Roman Catholic which means that once they marry, they
cannot divorce or be remarried. Friar Laurence knew this going into the marriage and the fact that
Juliet was to be soon married off to Paris in a political wedding. Friar approved and said, "For this
alliance may so happy prove to turn your households' rancor to pure love" (ACT II SCENE III). He
later marries them in secret without telling anyone which will lead to two other mistakes made by

let them marry each other. At the end both the lovers die. This connects to my topic because of one
secret that was kept to save them killed six people. Even though some may believe otherwise, there

First, because of Friar Lawrence kept the plan as a secret. Romeo thought Juliet was dead and
kills himself. After that Juliet saw Romeo dead she kisses him then she stabs herself then She
dies. This one secret cost Romeo's and Juliet's lives. Second, this secret caused problems by
taking Romeo's and Juliet's lives. Others may say, secrets must be kept because they can hurt
people. In an article by Irene Van, says that you can keep secrets about family and friends. Irene
Van says, " Gossip about family or friends unless this is about something that worries you, in
/ which case you should tell a adult you trust" (Van.II). This proves that, Irene Van believes that
secrets about family and friends should be kept because it can really hurt your friends feelings.
Second, this could be true because if I tell my friend one of my secrets, I trust this person. If he or
she is going to go and tell my secret to someone, I am not going to tell he/she any secrets.
However, on the other hand, in the same article Irene Van says that any kind of touch should not
be kept as a secret. Irene Van says, " Secrets that are not safe to keep:/ Any kind of touch" (Van.II).
First, I would tell my parents if this happens to me because if I tell this secret to my friends, and
they spread it, it would hurt me. Second, this can lead to more problems if I kept this as a secret
from my parents because, the same thing will continue if I don't take

Romeo And Juliet Argumentative Essay
Romeo and Juliet Argumentative Essay William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is set in 16th
century Verona, Italy. A play that relays the story of two young lovers whose ill
–fated deaths end an
ancient family feud. The two lovers, Romeo and Juliet, come from families who disapprove of
their love. Their situation complicates as the play progresses, with an arranged marriage and
several deaths. Romeo and Juliet both fall to the consequences of their secret marriage. Even
from the beginning, their decisions were rash; especially from Romeo. Shakespeare use of
various tactics in developing Romeo's character in the play. He shows that Romeo has an
impulsive and emotional disposition. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is irrational. Firstly,
after meeting Juliet for the first time, Romeo falls hopelessly in love. He climbs the wall to her
orchard; he drops in where a guard of the Capulet household could have killed him. But he thinks he
is on "love's light wings"(II.ii.30) When Juliet steps on her balcony, she scolds Romeo. But he tells
Juliet that he would rather die than be without her love "And but thou love me, let them find me
her... My life were better ended by their hate... Than death prorogued, wanting of thy love."
(II.ii.80–83) Romeo has only known Juliet for barely a night and he is already in love with her. He
already wants a future with Juliet without even trying to get to know her. This shows how quite
irrational Romeo is because he's quick to judge. How does he

Romeo And Juliet Relationship Analysis
Discuss the relationships between parents and children on Romeo and Juliet. How do Romeo and
Juliet interact with their parents? Are they rebellious in the modern sense? How do their parents feel
about them?
"The best way to get your child to listen to you is to develop a meaningful relationship with
them––without judgements and anger". Capulet and Montague are unable to maintain stable
relationships with their children, which eventually plays a part in their deaths. Romeo and Juliet is a
tragic play written by Shakespeare. In fair Verona, two star–crossed lovers pursue their death–marked
love no matter what the circumstances. Shakespeare includes a great deal of imagery and dramatic
irony to emphasize the love between Romeo and Juliet. In Verona, the Montage's and Capulet's are
seen as two very wealthy families. Despite their high social rank, their relationships with their
children are very unstable. They demonstrate low respect for their children, treating them much like
puppets and servants. The families' abusive, self–centred and ignorant behaviours have caused
sadness and depression unto their kids, and ultimately death. The parent–child relationships in
Romeo and Juliet are acquainted and dysfunctional. Capulet's selfishness and Juliet's stubbornness
make their relationship very unstable, while Montague's caring personality and Romeo's lack of
love for his parents make it very hard to form a relationship.
The Capulet's behaviour is a reason why the relationship between them and Juliet is very weak. They
are self–centred, abusive, and unable to have a proper conversation with her. Lord Capulet has a
self–centred personality which makes it really hard to build a stable and proper relationship with
his daughter. "An you be mine, I'll give you to my friends / An you be nut, hang, beg, die in the
streets." (3.5.192–193). This quote effectively demonstrates Capulet's self–centred and forceful
personality. When he tells Juliet to marry Paris or go die in the streets, it becomes evident the he is
using Juliet for his own selfish will. Furthermore, Capulet does not even listen to Juliet's opinion
which indicates that he does not care about the opinion of Juliet, but only his own opinion. In

Relationships In Romeo And Juliet
In the twenty–first century many people think "dating" has to be a physical and technological
relationship, while when Romeo and Juliet was written the relationships were romantic and had
more importance. In todays world most of the couples are brought together through match–making
websites which are not necessarily based off of having an immediate connection. Unlike the
twenty–first century, the couple in Romeo and Juliet was more involved with each other and were
brought together by love at first sight. There are many factors that play a role in Romeo and
Juliet's love story, such as their ages, time periods, and parental involvement that determine the
similarities, and differences, among these two generations of "lovers." One of the contributing
factors to the similarities and differences between the two generations of "lovers" is age. In the
beginning of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo expresses his love for Juliet by saying, " Did my heart love
till now? Foreswear it, sight. For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night" (1.5.53–54). Shortly after he
mentioned Juliet's age, which was much younger than that of Romeo's. Even though there is such
a large age gap it doesn't necessarily affect Romeo and Juliet, unlike it would in todays world. In
today's society, there is a law that states "Individuals aged 15 or younger in North Carolina are not
legally able to consent to sexual activity, and such activity may result in prosecution for statutory
rape." Thus meaning that nothing like Romeo and Juliet could've taken place now, like it did back
then, because of their ages. Even though they had claimed to be in love, it wouldn't have mattered
since there were such a large age difference. Another contributing factor to the similarities and
differences between the two generations of "lovers" is the time period. There are many differences
between the two time periods. Romeo and Juliet was written around 1590 when technology was
limited. Unlike today, where everything we do revolves around using technology, whether it is a
phone call, text message, party invites, publishing a novel, or watching a movie. Since there is so
much technology used in todays world, it is much easier to communicate with your significant other

In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare includes a prologue before the start of the play that reveals
much of the plot. The prologue establishes the setting of the play, gives the audience an idea of
what will happen, and helps the audience to understand the importance of fate in the play. The first
purpose of the prologue is to establish the setting of the play by giving important background
information. In the first two lines of the prologue, we learn that the play is set in "fair Verona" and
that the characters come from two feuding households that are "both alike in dignity." Having this
information before the start of the play increases the audience's understanding of the action that will

Shakespeare indicates in lines 9–12 that the play will be a story about two lovers and their parents'
rage, which is ended only by "their children's end," indicating that the two lovers will die. In these
lines, Shakespeare implies that the grit of the story is in the events that lead up to the lovers' deaths,
rather than the death itself. The third purpose of the prologue is to emphasize the importance of fate.
Shakespeare writes in line six that Romeo and Juliet are "star–crossed lovers," which means that their
love is doomed from the start. In the Elizabethan Era, people believed that the stars controlled
people's destinies, so the fact that they are "star–crossed" tells the audience that their fate is not to be
together. In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare's prologue to the play does not spoil the ending, but
rather gives important background information, prepares the audience for the events of the play, and
emphasizes the role that fate plays in

Love in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet Essay
What is love? Is it an object? Is it a feeling? Is it even attainable? Love is everything, it is an object,
it is an emotion, and it cannot be bought, stolen, given. Love can only be found. Love is discovered
in the most unthinkable places during the most unimaginable times. It can never be predicted who
you fall in love with or when you do but all you do know is that you are in love and you would
give anything for that person, and for your love to always stay resilient through all other obstacles
and distractions. In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Montague's and Capulet's are know and

Once love is found, any obstacle presented will neither diminish nor terminate that love, even
when tragedy strikes with the loss of a loved one. Tybalt, the cousin of Juliet is one of the
Capulet's that despises the Montague's and he will do anything in his power to kill them all, and
once he confronted Romeo, he met his fate and died by Romeo's sword. The Prince arrived to the
scene and said "Romeo slew him, he slew Mercutio" (III.i.181), him referring to Tybalt, and once
realized, he banished Romeo out of the city. Once Juliet discovered the truth about Tybalt's death and
Romeo's banishment she said in grief "Romeo is banished– to speak that word is father, mother,
Tybalt, Romeo, Juliet, all slain, all dead– Romeo is banished" (III.ii.122–124). Her heartache for
Romeo's banishment more than her cousin Tybalt's death shows that he is her life, her world, and
her breath, and without him she would be nothing and life as she knows is would end, even through
tragedy and anguish.
Love is being willing to sacrifice everything for your everything, and giving your family, friends,
and life for one person. Romeo gave everything for Juliet. He risked his family, his friends, his way
of living, and his life in the pursuit of his true love. Juliet risked all that was central in influencing

Was Romeo And Juliet Really In Love Essay
The tale of Romeo and Juliet tells a tragic story of a pair of star crossed lovers. But were Romeo and
Juliet really in love? This essay will investigate the play of Romeo and Juliet in order to see if love at
first sight was truly possible with this iconic pair.
William Shakespeare was the man who wrote the play Romeo and Juliet, meaning that the play is
fiction. So by that account, love at first sight is fiction and is not a viable reality. The play of
Romeo and Juliet is a romantic tragedy. A young couple driven to suicide because they could not
be together is a tragic thing. Shakespeare called attraction love because it made the play all the
more tragic. In Act 2 scene 2 Juliet says "Deny thy father and refuse thy name; or if thou wilt not,
be but sworn my love, and I'll no longer be a Capulet." In this part Juliet is contemplating what it
is to be a Capulet and what a Montague is. She seems to be willing to forget her family in order to
be with Romeo, who she has not even known for a night.
In today's terms, what Romeo and Juliet experienced when they first saw each other was infatuation.
Juliet was thirteen, almost fourteen, she could not understand what romantic love is like because
she has never been in love. Romeo is seventeen, he does not know what romantic love is as well.

If Romeo and Juliet's families did not hate each other, there would be no suicide, and there would
be no reason the two could not be married after meeting and being infatuated. The reason this is so
important is because without this factor the play would most likely not be a tragedy, just a
romance. If Romeo and Juliet had been married for a while, then true love could have been real
between the two. Since the two did not know each other well, and were irrational teenagers, love was
not the motivation here, the attraction the two had for each other was the

Analyzing Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story
between two teenagers who fall head over heels for each other in their forbidden love.
The story is riddled with violence, hatred and revenge, these powerful themes along with others keep
the audience on the edge of their seat.
Shakespeare wants to create an impact with his play he wanted to something different, do something
no one else would dare to do.
Romeo and Juliet turned many heads as it was against the norm of the Elizabethan society back in
those days.
He had a lot of criticism but this made even more...show more content...
As Romeo was a Montague and Juliet was a Capulet this was bad, they were from two families that
had been feuding for generations. Romeo and Juliet did not know this and continues there innocent
love as this tragic tale unfolds.
Juliet finds out her parents have arranged for her to marry the eligible bachelor Count Paris, instead
of reacting like a normal Elizabethan girl was expected to at that time she refused to hear of it and
disobeyed her parents.
Her parents Bemused at her reaction have there best efforts to convince her otherwise rejected.
Then they take their matters in their own hands and give her two choices either to marry Count
Paris or be abandoned by the family, Juliet feeling she has no other options stays with her parents
while keeping a relationship with Romeo.
They then carefully master a plan to get married in secret before Juliet marries Paris and to escape
and live happy ever after.
As we know not all endings are happy as the plan had some confusion in it and ended up with both
Romeo and Juliet dead.
Both families learning this make an agreement to never fight again, but too little to late.
In Elizabethan times the church controlled almost everything, brainwashing people into believing

Romeo And Juliet Opinion Essay
Supported opinion – Romeo and Juliet
In the play Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, the main factors that caused the deaths of Romeo and
Juliet are the feud between the Capulet's and Montague's, Friar and also Romeo and Juliet
themselves who are the most responsible for the deaths of the two loves demonstrating that love kills
to be true.
The feud that was going on between the Montagues and the Capulets led to the deaths of Romeo
and Juliet because the differences of these two families impacted the relationship of these two
lovers. With no feud things would've been better, Friar Lawrence wouldn't have had to come up
with a plan for Romeo and Juliet to escape Verona. In the end the hatred of the two families in the
end was a big influence...show more content...
Friar interfered too much with Romeo and Juliet's love life and family problems. He had gotten
them married without the consent of their parents, he didn't think before making a decision. He
didn't think the Romeo and Juliet are still kids who don't know anything about love. Friar just
thought it will resolve the feud between the Montagues and Capulets. But it was actually making
the situations between the families worse. Friar was also giving bad advice, as he did when he
made a plan to stop the marriage of Juliet and Paris when Juliet was being forced to marry Paris,
without informing Romeo properly about the fake death therefore his plan had failed. In the play
Friar had said "Hold, daughter. I do spy a kind of hope, which craves as desperate an execution as
that is desperate which we would prevent. If, rather than to marry County Paris" (Act 4. Scene 1.
Lines 70–73). In this quotation Friar was responsible for telling Romeo about the plan which he
had failed to accomplish; this one mistake had made matters worse leading towards Romeo and
Juliet's deaths. Friar always thinks he has a solution to every plan just to stop the riot between the
Montague's and Capulet's when he actually does not have a solution for every problem. As Friar
interfered within the families of Romeo and Juliet, he had cause many issues and problems.
Therefore, Friar was responsible for the deaths of the two lovers Romeo and

Romeo And Juliet Essay Outline
Romeo and Juliet Outline Essay Title Towards the beginning of the Elizabethan era, in the
mid–1500s, William Shakespeare, a poet, playwright and actor began to flourish as a result of his
renowned plays. Romeo and Juliet, one of his most successful tragedies, precipitated his career and
reputation as a literary genius. This iconic work of art examines two young adolescents in the throes
of forbidden love. The play captures the agonizing emotions the protagonists hold for one another,
and studies the effect this intense love has on Romeo's developing character. Throughout the play,
Shakespeare demonstrates how the spectrum of intense emotions Romeo experiences compromise
his rational thought, producing hasty actions that ultimately lead to fatal results. Romeo's loyalty to
his friends is at odds with his ability to objectively evaluate situations, thus causing him to act
impulsively. Towards the beginning of the play, Tybalt and Mercutio are involved in a brawl during
which Mercutio is killed. Witnessing his close friend's death creates an unchecked anger in Romeo,
that he willingly accepts, causing him to seek out and kill Tybalt. Romeo exclaims: "Fire–eyed fury
be my conduct now" (III.i.123). The intensity and immediacy of his anger consumes his
consciousness and directs his physical being, blinding him from analyzing the potential
consequences of his actions. Shakespeare adeptly utilizes two literary devices– alliteration and
personification– to emphasize the dilemmas

Romeo And Juliet Essay

  • 1. Romeo And Juliet Friendship Essay The Power of True Friendship in Romeo and Juliet Woodrow T. Wilson once said, "Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self–sacrifice." Friendship is almost always a promise of sacrifice, a risk driven by strong emotion. This can be seen within every true friendship one could imagine. Whether sacrifice is sprung from love or hate, it is always promised in friendship. In the play, Romeo and Juliet, playwright William Shakespeare shows that true love is worth sacrificing everything for through Mercutio, Romeo, and the nurse's characters. To begin, William Shakespeare shows how true friends are worth dying for through Mercutio's character. Mercutio, Romeo's best friend, always wanted the best for him, and...show more content... Juliet's relationship with the nurse was far more powerful than hers with her own mother, as she always went to her when she was going through rough times growing up. Shakespeare shows the love and devotion of true friendship through the nurse's character. The nurse risks losing her job to make Juliet happy. Although she knows that Juliet and Romeo's love is forbidden by their families, she allows and supports Juliet in her decision regardless. The morning after Romeo and Juliet met, the nurse served as Juliet's messenger and arranged her marriage with Romeo: "Good heart and i' faith will tell her as much. / Lord, Lord, she will be a joyful woman" (II.iv.177–178). This quote shows that true friendship is more powerful than anything and when one is happy, the other is happy for them. A true friend is willing to risk anything for the other's happiness. Additionally, after finding Juliet "dead" in her bedroom, the nurse is struck with depression. The nurse shows her despair, saying that the day of Juliet's "death" was the most discouraging day of her entire life: "O woe, o woeful, woeful, woeful day! / Most lamentable day, most woeful day / that ever, ever I did yet behold" (IV.v.55 –57). One cannot live without friendship; if love or friendship is prevented, it can lead to depression. This shows how influential true friendship can be and the difference it can make in one's life. Evidently, true friendship is about Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Romeo and Juliet as a Tragedy Essay Romeo and Juliet as a Tragedy Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, which was written by William Shakespeare in 1599. The Elizabethans totally believed in fate, they believed that your destiny was fated. They also believed that fate was fickle, it could change, one day everything would be good and the next day things could be really bad. If you challenged fate, it would take up the challenge. If it wasn't fate there are many more things which could have caused the tragedy; the feud, this means that everything that happens in Verona ends in violence, Friar Lawrence, shouldn't have married them and shouldn't have suggested such a dangerous plan, which was playing with their lives, the Nurse should have...show more content... Also the nurse agrees to be the go between, she thinks she has no choice because she is the servant and Juliet is the boss 'I am the drudge and toil in your delight'. Romeo and Juliet meet at the balcony and Juliet proposes to Romeo, so he goes to the friar to arrange the marriage. The friar marries them, when he wouldn't normally marry to people from different families because of the feud but this time he does. He doesn't want to at first, but he changes his mind as he thinks it may end the quarrel between the two families. But after they have got married; fate seems to turn against them. During the marriage ceremony Romeo says that now he has married Juliet nothing can go wrong. This challenges fate. When the fight starts Mercutio and Tybalt are only messing around but Romeo reminds them about the prince's decree. It is in this fight scene when fate starts to work against Romeo because when he steps in to stop the fight there is an accident and Mercutio gets killed. 'A plague a' both your houses! They have made worms' meat of me'. Mercutio curses both houses because he also blames Romeo for getting in the way. Romeo should report this to the prince but instead he starts fighting with Tybalt and this is serious because he reacts with his emotions and wants revenge. 'O I am fortunes fool' Romeo thinks that fate just wants to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Act 2 Scene 2 of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet 'Act 2, scene 2 is one of the most important scenes in the play. Explain why it is so vital in showing the play's themes, emotions, characterisation and situation. Focus particularly on how Shakespeare's stagecraft, imagery and language help to bring out the moral and social significance of the play' Act 2, scene 2 is a vital scene in Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' because the key themes and issues of love and hate are discussed and explored. The result of this is that the couple decided to marry, a fateful decision, and therefore a key point. This is unexpected, as their families have been feuding for many years. By planning to wed...show more content... The relationship with the story is that this show that he is willing to disown his family, take up a new name if Juliet will say that she loves him; deny thy father and refuse thy name; or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and I'll no longer be a Capulet'. The symbolism of baptism shows a purity and youth of their relationship. This is significant because it shows Romeo's commitment and that he wants to be with her whatever the cost. This links in wit the other religious imagery, referring to Juliet as an 'angel' and mentioning 'idolatry' again showing the transcendent nature of their love. Before this scene the romantic kiss at the ball suggests that they love each other already, they engage in their 'holy palmer's kiss', sealing their passionate love. The fight between the families at the start shows that the families share a mutual hate, Shakespeare has structured this scene to juxtapose the elements of love and hate in the play. Romeo and Juliet choose love but the hatred of their relatives is always a problem. Juliet warns that 'the place death, considering who thou art', but Romeo says 'more peril lies in thine eyes than twenty of their swords' this shows the debate of love and hate again. By Romeo sneaking into the Capulet grounds, the balcony dialogue and then them almost being caught, tension is built up as these Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Relationships in Romeo and Juliet Essay In this essay, I will be examining Shakespeare's treatment of relationships in Romeo and Juliet. As a poet and playwright, he wrote 154 sonnets, 2 long narrative poems and 38 plays, one of his most famous plays being Romeo and Juliet. There are many different types of relationships between characters, and these are essential to the play. The prologue tells us that the play is about two star–crossed lovers from two feuding families, the Montagues and Capulets. There is hatred between these two families, this explains this, 'Thou villain Capulet'. This quote suggests because of the hate between their families, the lovers are doomed from the start. Romeo's relationship with Rosaline shows he is deeply infatuated and passionate. In act 1,...show more content... He uses rhyming couplets, 'as a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear, Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear'. This suggests his love for her is so powerful, it changes the way he speaks. Romeo also uses religious imagery to describe Juliet, such as 'This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this.' He compares her to a shrine which shows how their love is pure and how he worships her. This shows he has confused his love with religion. In act 1, scene 4 Romeo says, 'I fear, too early, my mind misgives some consequences yet hanging in the stars.' This suggests that he feels something is going to go wrong, which shows that their relationship is doomed from the start. In Elizabethan times people were superstitious and thought that their lives were mapped out in the stars. If you tried to change your destiny it was considered a sin. They also believed that their lives were planned by the wheel of fortune. Philosopher, Boethius proposed a theory of that people can rise in power of luck, but; it has to come down. In act 3, scene 5 Juliet refers to this. 'O fortune, fortune! All men call thee fickle.' Juliet and Lord Capulet at first have a caring relationship but soon after Tybalt's death this changes. It was planned that she would marry Paris when she was fifteen but after her cousin's death, the marriage is brought forward. In Shakespearean times, it is not unusual for girls to have marriages arranged by their parents and also to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Compare And Contrast Romeo And Juliet Essay Romeo and Juliet Essay Do you love someone? Is that someone, your spouse or significant other, or is that person one of your parents or even someone else? Well whoever it is you would most likely give something up for them, right? With love, it can be beautiful, but also love can be consequential. Obviously, you would take chances for that person, but surely some of those choices will backfire and do more harm than help. Also, if you are a secretive and keep your feelings separated from other people you care about they might start feeling like you don't actually care. Finally, love is fantastic, but the truth lies in how much you are willing to give up. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo takes many chances to be with Juliet; this including marrying...show more content... Juliet kept being in love with Romeo confidential from her parents. Soon her parents realized something was up and made her comply to marry Paris (Act 4, Scene 1). What this symbolizes is that people who care for you could and will be hurt by what you keep from them. Again Juliet acted this way out of love for Romeo. Love, the beginning is great, but then it comes to truth and true feelings on what you can give up for the person that you "love". Some people would give up time with friends or time with family. In Romeo and Juliet's case, they gave up their lives (Act 5, Scene 3). This just shows how "in love" Romeo and Juliet were. However, different people will cut out different things for the ones they love. Romeo and Juliet indeed love each other and gave up their lives for each other. Love can be the greatest feeling in the world, but also comes with unexpected consequences. The chances you take can backfire, other people in your life could start questioning the care you feel for them, and it comes down to how much you are willing to give up to gain appreciation of them. What would you surrender and what chances would you take for the one you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Character Analysis of Romeo Essay Character Analysis of Romeo Romeo and Juliet is a tale of two star–crossed lovers who in their love for each other were willing to sacrifice their lives. Romeo is a very temperamental person; his character develops considerably throughout the play in various ways. In this essay I shall be looking closely at Romeo's character, his intentions & abilities and his relationship with other characters in the play. In the conversation between Benvolio and Montague in act 1 scene 1, we learn that Romeo is behaving strangely and avoiding his friends, "Towards him I made, but he was ware of me and stole into the covert of the woods." In this sentence Benvolio is explaining to Lady Montague that when...show more content... Meaning that she does not love him and she has Dian's wit. Dian is the goddess of hunting and chasity, she avoids Cupid's arrows ; from this we learn that Rosaline has no intention of loving him or any other man. This is further proven when Romeo confirms Benvolio's question that she has sworn to remain a virgin. Romeo goes on to say that his love is misplaced because Rosaline has rejected him. Romeo compares his love to Rosaline as a devote religion. His words seem mature which belies his actions, which is often irresponsible and immature. Even when his love has been rejected, Romeo still feels heavy with the burden of love. His friends didn't take his love seriously, they thought it was humorous, silly and later on exasperating. Romeo is hurt by Rosaline 's rejections and perhaps by his friends' indifference towards his love. We learn this when he quotes "... love pricks like thorn...". But Mecrutio does not feel melancholy about love. He views love in a physical sense more than emotional, he advises rather crudely " If love be rough with you, be rough with love". Romeo's actions and words in act 1 scene 5 make us doubt if he has been in love at all, or just thinking pretending to be in love. He himself doubts it "did my heart love till now? Foreswear it, sight for I ne, er saw true beauty till this night." By his words we gather that He Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Romeo And Juliet Compared To Today The story of Romeo and Juliet can be compared to modern lives of teenagers, by comparing their actions, personalities and emotions. Juliet never agreed with her parents and always wanted to do things her own way. Capulet and Lady Capulet where only doing their jobs as her parents to help her out. Through their eyes they where just being helpful to Juliet by finding her a suitable Husband. However Juliet disagreed with many of their ideas. These situations may resemble teens today and how they rebel against their parents even though they might only be guiding them with good judgment. Juliet chooses her words carefully while talking to Count Paris so that she doesn't commit herself to him or say that she doesn't want to be his wife. This deceiving word play is copied by teenagers in the present day. They also talk themselves out of a tuff situation by misleading whoever they are talking to. This could be with relationships, school work or teachers. Personally I find that this is common and teenagers speak in certain ways that will benefit them....show more content... • 8. Essay On The Conflict Between Romeo And Juliet William Shakespeare's play, "Romeo and Juliet," takes place in Verona – a city in Italy which is governed by a prince. There is also a Friar named Laurence, who is a religious figure that citizens go to for advice and to be married. In the City lives the Capulets and the Montagues who have been disputing for generations. Both families have children and one child from each family are the protagonists– Romeo is a member of the Montagues and Juliet is a member of the Capulets. You can see the "Two households, both alike in dignity" (Act I PROLOGUE) fight even when they are so similar. The conflict of the two households quarreling arises when Romeo meets Juliet at the Capulet's party and they both fall for each other at first sight hence the phrase "love at first sight". At the time, religion was very important so when Romeo would talk about Juliet, he would say "Oh, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do. They pray; grant thou, lest faith turn to despair" (ACT I SCENE V). In this time, Romeo is asking for Juliet to kiss her because when you pray, your hands touch; and Romeo wants to do with lips what hands do. This comparison shows the connection from everyday life to religion, which is part of the reason Romeo went to Friar Laurence. Romeo and Juliet are also Roman Catholic which means that once they marry, they cannot divorce or be remarried. Friar Laurence knew this going into the marriage and the fact that Juliet was to be soon married off to Paris in a political wedding. Friar approved and said, "For this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households' rancor to pure love" (ACT II SCENE III). He later marries them in secret without telling anyone which will lead to two other mistakes made by Friar Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Second, this could be true because if I tell my friend one of my secrets, I trust this person. If he or she is going to go and tell my secret to someone, I am not going to tell he/she any secrets. However, on the other hand, in the same article Irene Van says that any kind of touch should not be kept as a secret. • 10. Romeo And Juliet Argumentative Essay Romeo and Juliet Argumentative Essay William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is set in 16th century Verona, Italy. A play that relays the story of two young lovers whose ill –fated deaths end an ancient family feud. The two lovers, Romeo and Juliet, come from families who disapprove of their love. Their situation complicates as the play progresses, with an arranged marriage and several deaths. Romeo and Juliet both fall to the consequences of their secret marriage. Even from the beginning, their decisions were rash; especially from Romeo. Shakespeare use of various tactics in developing Romeo's character in the play. He shows that Romeo has an impulsive and emotional disposition. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is irrational. Firstly, after meeting Juliet for the first time, Romeo falls hopelessly in love. He climbs the wall to her orchard; he drops in where a guard of the Capulet household could have killed him. But he thinks he is on "love's light wings"(II.ii.30) When Juliet steps on her balcony, she scolds Romeo. But he tells Juliet that he would rather die than be without her love "And but thou love me, let them find me her... My life were better ended by their hate... Than death prorogued, wanting of thy love." (II.ii.80–83) Romeo has only known Juliet for barely a night and he is already in love with her. He already wants a future with Juliet without even trying to get to know her. This shows how quite irrational Romeo is because he's quick to judge. How does he Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 14. Romeo And Juliet Relationship Analysis Discuss the relationships between parents and children on Romeo and Juliet. How do Romeo and Juliet interact with their parents? Are they rebellious in the modern sense? How do their parents feel about them? "The best way to get your child to listen to you is to develop a meaningful relationship with them––without judgements and anger". Capulet and Montague are unable to maintain stable relationships with their children, which eventually plays a part in their deaths. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic play written by Shakespeare. In fair Verona, two star–crossed lovers pursue their death–marked love no matter what the circumstances. Shakespeare includes a great deal of imagery and dramatic irony to emphasize the love between Romeo and Juliet. In Verona, the Montage's and Capulet's are seen as two very wealthy families. Despite their high social rank, their relationships with their children are very unstable. They demonstrate low respect for their children, treating them much like puppets and servants. The families' abusive, self–centred and ignorant behaviours have caused sadness and depression unto their kids, and ultimately death. The parent–child relationships in Romeo and Juliet are acquainted and dysfunctional. Capulet's selfishness and Juliet's stubbornness make their relationship very unstable, while Montague's caring personality and Romeo's lack of love for his parents make it very hard to form a relationship. The Capulet's behaviour is a reason why the relationship between them and Juliet is very weak. They are self–centred, abusive, and unable to have a proper conversation with her. Lord Capulet has a self–centred personality which makes it really hard to build a stable and proper relationship with his daughter. "An you be mine, I'll give you to my friends / An you be nut, hang, beg, die in the streets." (3.5.192–193). This quote effectively demonstrates Capulet's self–centred and forceful personality. When he tells Juliet to marry Paris or go die in the streets, it becomes evident the he is using Juliet for his own selfish will. Furthermore, Capulet does not even listen to Juliet's opinion which indicates that he does not care about the opinion of Juliet, but only his own opinion. • 15. Relationships In Romeo And Juliet In the twenty–first century many people think "dating" has to be a physical and technological relationship, while when Romeo and Juliet was written the relationships were romantic and had more importance. In todays world most of the couples are brought together through match–making websites which are not necessarily based off of having an immediate connection. Unlike the twenty–first century, the couple in Romeo and Juliet was more involved with each other and were brought together by love at first sight. There are many factors that play a role in Romeo and Juliet's love story, such as their ages, time periods, and parental involvement that determine the similarities, and differences, among these two generations of "lovers." One of the contributing factors to the similarities and differences between the two generations of "lovers" is age. In the beginning of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo expresses his love for Juliet by saying, " Did my heart love till now? Foreswear it, sight. For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night" (1.5.53–54). Shortly after he mentioned Juliet's age, which was much younger than that of Romeo's. Even though there is such a large age gap it doesn't necessarily affect Romeo and Juliet, unlike it would in todays world. In today's society, there is a law that states "Individuals aged 15 or younger in North Carolina are not legally able to consent to sexual activity, and such activity may result in prosecution for statutory rape." Thus meaning that nothing like Romeo and Juliet could've taken place now, like it did back then, because of their ages. Even though they had claimed to be in love, it wouldn't have mattered since there were such a large age difference. Another contributing factor to the similarities and differences between the two generations of "lovers" is the time period. There are many differences between the two time periods. Romeo and Juliet was written around 1590 when technology was limited. Unlike today, where everything we do revolves around using technology, whether it is a phone call, text message, party invites, publishing a novel, or watching a movie. Since there is so much technology used in todays world, it is much easier to communicate with your significant other Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare includes a prologue before the start of the play that reveals much of the plot. The prologue establishes the setting of the play, gives the audience an idea of what will happen, and helps the audience to understand the importance of fate in the play. The first purpose of the prologue is to establish the setting of the play by giving important background information. In the first two lines of the prologue, we learn that the play is set in "fair Verona" and that the characters come from two feuding households that are "both alike in dignity." Having this information before the start of the play increases the audience's understanding of the action that will follow. The second purpose of the prologue is to give the audience an idea of what will happen in the ...show more content... Shakespeare indicates in lines 9–12 that the play will be a story about two lovers and their parents' rage, which is ended only by "their children's end," indicating that the two lovers will die. In these lines, Shakespeare implies that the grit of the story is in the events that lead up to the lovers' deaths, rather than the death itself. The third purpose of the prologue is to emphasize the importance of fate. Shakespeare writes in line six that Romeo and Juliet are "star–crossed lovers," which means that their love is doomed from the start. In the Elizabethan Era, people believed that the stars controlled people's destinies, so the fact that they are "star–crossed" tells the audience that their fate is not to be together. In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare's prologue to the play does not spoil the ending, but rather gives important background information, prepares the audience for the events of the play, and emphasizes the role that fate plays in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Love in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet Essay What is love? Is it an object? Is it a feeling? Is it even attainable? Love is everything, it is an object, it is an emotion, and it cannot be bought, stolen, given. Love can only be found. Love is discovered in the most unthinkable places during the most unimaginable times. It can never be predicted who you fall in love with or when you do but all you do know is that you are in love and you would give anything for that person, and for your love to always stay resilient through all other obstacles and distractions. In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Montague's and Capulet's are know and expected to hate each other until the miracle of love presented its self. Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet. They both fell in love when...show more content... Once love is found, any obstacle presented will neither diminish nor terminate that love, even when tragedy strikes with the loss of a loved one. Tybalt, the cousin of Juliet is one of the Capulet's that despises the Montague's and he will do anything in his power to kill them all, and once he confronted Romeo, he met his fate and died by Romeo's sword. The Prince arrived to the scene and said "Romeo slew him, he slew Mercutio" (III.i.181), him referring to Tybalt, and once realized, he banished Romeo out of the city. Once Juliet discovered the truth about Tybalt's death and Romeo's banishment she said in grief "Romeo is banished– to speak that word is father, mother, Tybalt, Romeo, Juliet, all slain, all dead– Romeo is banished" (III.ii.122–124). Her heartache for Romeo's banishment more than her cousin Tybalt's death shows that he is her life, her world, and her breath, and without him she would be nothing and life as she knows is would end, even through tragedy and anguish. Love is being willing to sacrifice everything for your everything, and giving your family, friends, and life for one person. Romeo gave everything for Juliet. He risked his family, his friends, his way of living, and his life in the pursuit of his true love. Juliet risked all that was central in influencing her to be the person she is, even Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Was Romeo And Juliet Really In Love Essay The tale of Romeo and Juliet tells a tragic story of a pair of star crossed lovers. But were Romeo and Juliet really in love? This essay will investigate the play of Romeo and Juliet in order to see if love at first sight was truly possible with this iconic pair. William Shakespeare was the man who wrote the play Romeo and Juliet, meaning that the play is fiction. So by that account, love at first sight is fiction and is not a viable reality. The play of Romeo and Juliet is a romantic tragedy. A young couple driven to suicide because they could not be together is a tragic thing. Shakespeare called attraction love because it made the play all the more tragic. In Act 2 scene 2 Juliet says "Deny thy father and refuse thy name; or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and I'll no longer be a Capulet." In this part Juliet is contemplating what it is to be a Capulet and what a Montague is. She seems to be willing to forget her family in order to be with Romeo, who she has not even known for a night. In today's terms, what Romeo and Juliet experienced when they first saw each other was infatuation. Juliet was thirteen, almost fourteen, she could not understand what romantic love is like because she has never been in love. Romeo is seventeen, he does not know what romantic love is as well. ...show more content... If Romeo and Juliet's families did not hate each other, there would be no suicide, and there would be no reason the two could not be married after meeting and being infatuated. The reason this is so important is because without this factor the play would most likely not be a tragedy, just a romance. If Romeo and Juliet had been married for a while, then true love could have been real between the two. Since the two did not know each other well, and were irrational teenagers, love was not the motivation here, the attraction the two had for each other was the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 20. Romeo And Juliet Opinion Essay Supported opinion – Romeo and Juliet In the play Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, the main factors that caused the deaths of Romeo and Juliet are the feud between the Capulet's and Montague's, Friar and also Romeo and Juliet themselves who are the most responsible for the deaths of the two loves demonstrating that love kills to be true. The feud that was going on between the Montagues and the Capulets led to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because the differences of these two families impacted the relationship of these two lovers. He had gotten them married without the consent of their parents, he didn't think before making a decision. He didn't think the Romeo and Juliet are still kids who don't know anything about love. Friar just thought it will resolve the feud between the Montagues and Capulets. But it was actually making the situations between the families worse. Friar was also giving bad advice, as he did when he made a plan to stop the marriage of Juliet and Paris when Juliet was being forced to marry Paris, without informing Romeo properly about the fake death therefore his plan had failed. In the play Friar had said "Hold, daughter. I do spy a kind of hope, which craves as desperate an execution as that is desperate which we would prevent. If, rather than to marry County Paris" (Act 4. Scene 1. Lines 70–73). In this quotation Friar was responsible for telling Romeo about the plan which he had failed to accomplish; this one mistake had made matters worse leading towards Romeo and Juliet's deaths. Friar always thinks he has a solution to every plan just to stop the riot between the Montague's and Capulet's when he actually does not have a solution for every problem. • 21. Romeo And Juliet Essay Outline Romeo and Juliet Outline Essay Title Towards the beginning of the Elizabethan era, in the mid–1500s, William Shakespeare, a poet, playwright and actor began to flourish as a result of his renowned plays. Romeo and Juliet, one of his most successful tragedies, precipitated his career and reputation as a literary genius. This iconic work of art examines two young adolescents in the throes of forbidden love. The play captures the agonizing emotions the protagonists hold for one another, and studies the effect this intense love has on Romeo's developing character. Throughout the play, Shakespeare demonstrates how the spectrum of intense emotions Romeo experiences compromise his rational thought, producing hasty actions that ultimately lead to fatal results. Romeo's loyalty to his friends is at odds with his ability to objectively evaluate situations, thus causing him to act impulsively. Towards the beginning of the play, Tybalt and Mercutio are involved in a brawl during which Mercutio is killed. Witnessing his close friend's death creates an unchecked anger in Romeo, that he willingly accepts, causing him to seek out and kill Tybalt. Romeo exclaims: "Fire–eyed fury be my conduct now" (III.i.123). The intensity and immediacy of his anger consumes his consciousness and directs his physical being, blinding him from analyzing the potential consequences of his actions. Shakespeare adeptly utilizes two literary devices– alliteration and personification– to emphasize the dilemmas Get more content on HelpWriting.net
