2. Gender and Age From the data that I collected from the beginning of the questionnaire, I can see that my sample consisted of more female than male participants. I can also say that the majority of participants were between ages 17 and 19. This is because these questionnaires were mainly handed out to students with the exception of single 20+ year old participant (my teacher). This may help me think of a suitable target audience based on the results of this questionnaire.
3. Q1) What genres/types of music do you listen to? From this graph we can clearly tell that R’n’B is the most popular genre amongst young people. Perhaps an R’n’B song that I can look for use in my music video. I may also search for elements of soul, classical and blues along with R’n’B for my chosen song. ‘Louder’ genres seem to be of minimal interest amongst my sample which could be a reason for me to avoid these genres.
4. Q3) Do you watch music videos? Most of the participants (75%) watch music videos. This can go to show that music videos are of interest to most people. ** Questions 4,5,6 and 7 were only answered for those that answered ‘Yes’ to this questions (15 participants) so results may seem limited **
5. Q4) How often do you watch music videos? Out of the 15 participants, most of them said that they watch music videos very frequently. This can signify the importance of music videos and how regularly they are watched. 2 participants said that they would watch music videos all the time. It seems as though music videos are not only viewed to hear a song but they may be studied by audiences who search for meaning.
6. Q5) Where do you watch these music videos? Participants actively use the internet to watch music videos, especially on YouTube where the videos are available to view at any time of the day or night. This is very much unlike TV viewing, where videos are shown at the broadcaster’s request. This may indicate that people nowadays may not have time to wait for music videos of their favourite songs to show on TV channels.
7. Q6) What form would like to see in a music video? For this question it seems that participants preferred to see some sort of story line involved in music videos. They have also shown some interest in an idea or theme. Few liked the idea of a performance being shown in a video.
8. Q7) Does a music video help you decide whether you should purchase the track or not? This particular question is one of the most important on my questionnaire as it clearly highlights the fact that the purchasing of music strongly depends on the its video. This means that a good video can only mean more purchasing of the track.
9. Q8) Do you have a social networking account? Question 8 was asked out of curiosity and to observe any links (if any) between music and social networking. 37 social networking accounts are owned amongst the 20 members of my sample group. This may provide evidence that social networking may play a role in the listening and watching of music videos.
