The fiscal burden of increasing social security ex- penses for the elderly is a major issue in Japan. The elderly lose physical fitness as they age. In particular, degradation in walking ability leads to falling accidents which pose a risk of serious wounds such as fractures that may resign one to a life in bed. In this study, we propose a system that is capable of measuring and analyzing an elderly person’s walking ability. The proposed system, using Kinect motion sensor and written in the programming language Scratch, can measure an elderly person’s gait accurately and be operated simply without specialist knowledge. Through real experiments with 16 subjects, some potential problems in walking were easily found by analyzing the measured data.

日本は超高齢社会と言われ、高齢者の社会保障費の増加による財政負担が大きな課題となっている。 高齢者は加齢にともない自立体力が低下し、日常生活に支障をきたす。特に、歩行能力の低下による転倒 事故は、骨折から寝たきり生活へ移行するリスクをもたらす。本研究では高齢者の歩行を容易にモーショ ンキャプチャーできる測定システムを提案する。提案システムは、Kinect モーションセンサーとプログラ ミング言語 Scratch で構成し、限られた室内空間でも正確に高齢者の歩行データを取得できる。歩行の座 標データを解析して、歩行能力を測定し、問題点を発見する。分析の結果を高齢者へのフィードバックや 医師への参考資料として利用する。(DICOMO2019)

The information gathering and sharing are difficult in a disaster area where the communication infrastructures are destroyed due to the large-scale disaster. As a result, the rescue operation will be interfered. In this paper, we propose an efficient method for gathering disaster related information to a server at the headquarters in a disaster area, taking into account the mobility of rescue parties based on DTN (Delay tolerant Network).

2009-03-15A Data Gathering and Sharing Proposal for Disaster Relief based on DTN

In ITS research field, recently a lot of efforts have been made to develop driving safety support systems (DSSS) for car drivers such as warning to drivers “danger” in potential blind spots at intersections. In this paper, we propose a localization method to estimate the movement trajectories (position, speed and direction) of pedestrians near intersections by using some roadside anchors. In our method, we assume that each pedestrian is equipped with a small device which periodically emits a radio beacon signal and each roadside anchor can receive the signal and measure its received signal strength (RSS). Our method estimates the pedestrian position from RSS at each anchor based on the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) method. Moreover, to obtain an accurate pedestrian trajectory, our method applies the Bayes’ theorem to a series of estimated positions and reduces estimation errors caused by uncertainty from radio interference and other factors. Through computer simulations with RapLab, we confirmed that our method estimates pedestrian positions within 2m error.
