3. What is global warming?
Global warming is the way the earth is
getting warmer. The word ‘global’ means
‘worldwide’ and the warming is of the
atmosphere, the oceans and the surface the
earth.

5. The latest statistics are in from 2013 and both NASA’s
and NOAA’s measurements of global temperatures show
Earth continued to experience temperatures warmer
than those measured several decades ago.

7. NASA data shows that since 1950, average
temperatures have increased 1.1°F to an average
of 58.3° in 2013.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration’s (NOAA) data shows the
average temperature across global land and
ocean surfaces was 1.12 degrees above the 20th-
century average. This is the 37th consecutive
year that the annual temperature was above the
long-term average.

8. Why global warming
happens?
1. Greenhouse
Burning fossil fuels - coal, oil and natural
gas - releases carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere. Cutting down and burning
trees also produces a lot of carbon dioxide.

9. The Greenhouse Effect
 The Greenhouse Effect is unquestionably real and helps to regulate
the temperature of our planet. It is essential for life on Earth and is one
of Earth’s natural processes.
 Without a natural greenhouse effect, the temperature of the Earth
would be about (-18°C) instead of its present (14°C).
 The concern is not with the fact that we have a greenhouse effect, but
whether human activities are leading to an enhancement of the
greenhouse effect
 The Concern is real and the reality is that we are in deed
enhancing the greenhouse effect!!!

10. 2. Deforestation
Over half of the world’s forests have been destroyed in
the last 10,000 or so years, the majority of this loss has
occurred in the last 50 years, occurring simultaneously
with a massive increase in the human population. The
incredible scale of this loss has led to significant changes
throughout many parts of the world, and in recent years
these changes have been accelerating. These changes
include: large scale extinction events, desertification,
climatic changes, topsoil loss, flooding, famine, disease
outbreaks, and insect ‘plagues’, among others.

11. How about the effect?
With more heat trapped on Earth, the
planet will become warmer, which means
the weather all over Earth will change. For
example, summers will get hotter, and
winters too. This may seem a good idea, but
the conditions we are living in are perfect
for life, and a large rise in temperature
could be terrible for us and for any other
living thing on Earth.

15. What Can We Do?
 Knowledge is Power! Just being informed on the issue of global
warming is one huge step forward. Sharing our knowledge with others
and showing them that we care is the best thing we can do.
 The next best thing is to be a leader and to live a life that reflects our
beliefs. We can only provide others with the information we know but
we can not force our beliefs on to them.
 As such, we must make the changes to our own lives that will better
benefit the environment and global warming as a whole. Believe it or
not, one person can make a difference!
