Interfacing SCMSWeb with Condor-G – A Joint PRAGMA-Condor Effort

I'm here to present our joint effort between Condor team and ThaiGrid team under PRAGMA

Somsak from ThaiGrid -> Develop the code Jaime from Condor -> Condor installation & support Jysoo from KISTI -> application test Cindy from SDSC -> Coordination

So you can submit Condor-G job to PRAGMA resources

Job script is exactly the same as Condor-G job script

Condor-G will pick the (probably) best resources according to data from SCMSWeb

Time series data pipelines tend to prioritise speed and freshness over completeness and integrity. In such scenarios, it is very common to ingest duplicate data, which may be fine for many analytical use cases, but is very inconvenient for others. There are many open source databases built specifically for the speed and query semantics of time series, and most of them lack automatic deduplication of events in near real-time. One such database is QuestDB, which requires a manual batch process to deduplicate ingested data. In this talk, we will see how we can successfully use Apache Beam to deduplicate streaming time series, which can then be analysed by a time series database.

Slides of the talk presented at DEF CON Cloud Village on August 12th, 2022 by Alexandre Sieira. Contains research content from Glaysson Tomaz and Marcelo Lima as well. Recently the Conti ransomware group internal chat leaks was fascinating reading. Among other things, it reminded us that both well-intentioned and malicious actors are constantly trying to find ways to find vulnerabilities and develop exploits to widely used IT products. This is particularly true those that are externally exposed firewalls, VPNs and load balancers, or security products that might thwart their techniques and tools. The timeline from the chats seems to show a gap of several months between Conti members trying to procure either appliances or commercial software that they were trying to get for these purposes. This got us thinking about how the major cloud service providers these days have marketplaces where you can easily buy virtual appliances or SaaS licenses for lots of widely used IT and security products with little more than a valid credit card, in minutes. And we decided to check how feasible it is to use this to conduct vulnerability research. In this presentation we will show what kind of access one can get to the internals of IT and security products using these marketplaces, particularly in the case of products only typically offered in hardware appliances. Which cloud providers try to prevent this sort of activity, how they do it, which ones simply don't care, and what techniques we were able to use to access these appliance's internals. The objective here is threefold: 1) help well intentioned vulnerability researchers find an easier avenue to do their work; 2) allow cloud providers to get a better understanding of how their marketplaces can be abused and which controls they could implement to mitigate that risk, and 3) let IT and security vendors realize the added exposure of publishing their products on these marketplaces.

The session will discuss a library of solutions implemented at clients for transferring between applications in separate pods. Each configuration has its own merits and use case. The four main categories that will be discussed are - 1. Trickle Feed - uses a combination of inter-pod REST API connection, data management load rule, groovy scripting and scheduled EPM Automate job on a jump server to pick-up the files from source and push to target. 2. Focused On-save Push - pushes an intersection from source to target using inter-pod REST API connection, data management load rule and groovy scripting. 3. Scheduled Push- uses a combination of windows or Linux job, inter-pod REST API connection, groovy scripting, data management load rule and EPM Automate commands to extract and push data en masse from source to target. 4. Json Extract and Load - uses a combination of groovy scripting and inter-pod REST API connection to extract and push an intersection on-save. The audience will walk-away with learnings and understanding of inter-pod configurations, mainly for EPM Cloud planning applications. Snippets of code will form the "gold dust" takeaway from the session.

The term "artificial intelligence" was first coined by John McCarthy in 1956 to describe efforts to develop computer programs capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. This concept was first introduced at a conference held at Dartmouth College, where programs demonstrated capabilities such as playing chess, proving theorems, and interpreting texts. In the early stages, Alan Turing contributed to the field by defining intelligence as the ability of a being to respond to certain questions intelligently, proposing what is now known as the Turing Test to evaluate the presence of intelligent behavior in machines. As the decades progressed, AI evolved significantly. The 1980s focused on machine learning, teaching computers to learn from data, leading to the development of models that could improve their performance based on their experiences. The 1990s and 2000s saw further advances in algorithms and computational power, which allowed for more sophisticated data analysis techniques, including data mining. By the 2010s, the proliferation of big data and the refinement of deep learning techniques enabled AI to become mainstream. Notable milestones included the success of Google's AlphaGo and advancements in autonomous vehicles by companies like Tesla and Waymo. A major theme of the presentation is the application of generative AI, which has been used for tasks such as natural language text generation, translation, and question answering. Generative AI uses large datasets to train models that can then produce new, coherent pieces of text or other media. The presentation also discusses the ethical implications and the need for regulation in AI, highlighting issues such as privacy, bias, and the potential for misuse. These concerns have prompted calls for comprehensive regulations to ensure the safe and equitable use of AI technologies. Artificial intelligence has also played a significant role in healthcare, particularly highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it was used in drug discovery, vaccine development, and analyzing the spread of the virus. The capabilities of AI in healthcare are vast, ranging from medical diagnostics to personalized medicine, demonstrating the technology's potential to revolutionize fields beyond just technical or consumer applications. In conclusion, AI continues to be a rapidly evolving field with significant implications for various aspects of society.
