3. Meaning
• Dajjāl is an adjective of Syriac origin. It is also
a common Arabic word ( دجال) whose root
is dajl meaning "lie" or "deception". Al-Masīḥ
ad-Dajjāl, with the definite article al- ("the"),
refers to "the deceiving Messiah", a specific
end-of times deceiver. The Dajjāl is an evil
being who will seek to impersonate the true
Messiah.
• The name Dajjal also is rooted in an Arabic
word dajel, which means to gold plate or coat
in gold.
4. Who is Dajjal?
• Al-Masih ad-Dajjal (Arabic: الّجالد المسيح Al-Masīḥ
ad-Dajjāl, "the false messiah"), is an evil
figure in Islamic eschatology. He is to appear
pretending to be the Masih (i.e. the Messiah)
at a time in the future, before Yawm al-
Qiyamah (Day of Resurrection), and is
comparable to
the Antichrist and Armilus in Christian and Jew
ish eschatology, respectively.
5. Signs of appearances
Hadith attributed to Muhammad give many signs of the appearance
of the Dajjal, and exhorted his followers to recite the first and last
ten verses of Sura Al-Kahf (chapter 18 in the Qur'an), as protection
from the trials and mischief of the Dajjal.[7][8]
• The following signs are ascribed to Ali in the coming of Dajjal:[7]
• People will stop offering the prayers
• Dishonesty will be the way of life
• Falsehood will become a virtue
• People will mortgage their faith for worldly gain
• Usury and bribery will become legitimate
• There will be acute famine at the time
• There will be no shame amongst people
• Many people would worship Satan
• There would be no respect for elderly people
6. From where the Dajjaal will
emerge?
• It was narrated that Abu Bakr Siddiq said: "The
Messenger of Allah ( ﷺ) told us: 'Dajjal will emerge
in a land in the east called Khorasan, and will be
followed by people with faces like hammered
shields.'"[9] and will travel the whole world
preaching his falsehood, but will be unable to
enter Mecca or Medina.[4] Isa (Jesus)
will return and the Dajjal will gather an army of
70,000 Jews from Isfahan, of those he has deceived
and lead them in a war against Jesus who shall be
accompanied by an army of the righteous, along
with Imam Mahdi.
8. Forbidden Places for Dajjal
It is forbidden for the Dajjaal to enter Makkah or Madeenah when he emerges at
the end of time, because of the saheeh ahaadeeth narrated to that effect. As far as
other places are concerned, he will enter them one after another.
Anas bin Malik (RA) said:
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "There will be no land which will not be
trampled by Dajjal (the Antichrist) but Makkah and Al-Madinah; and there will be
no passage leading to them which will not be guarded by the angels, arranged in
rows. Dajjal will appear in a barren place adjacent to Al- Madinah and the city will
be shaken three times. Allah will expel from it every disbeliever and hypocrite."
[Sahih Muslim English Book reference : Book 19, Hadith 1811]
It was also reported that the Dajjaal will not enter the mosque of Sinai, or Masjid
al-Aqsaa (at Jerusalem). narrated that Junaadah ibn Umayyah al-Azdi said: “I came
to a man from among the Companions of the Prophet (PBUH) and said to him, ‘Tell
me a hadeeth that you heard from the Messenger of Allaah (PBUH) about the
Dajjaal.’ He mentioned the hadeeth, and said, ‘He will stay among you for forty
days, during which he will go to every place (on the earth) apart from four
mosques: Masjid al-Haraam (in Makkah), the mosque of Madeenah, the (mosque of)
Sinai and Masjid al-Aqsaa.’”(Imaam Ahmad Hadith no. 22,572)
9. The followers of the Dajjaal
• Most of the followers of the Dajjaal will be from among
the Jews, Persians and Turks, and a mixture of other
people, mostly Bedouins and women.
• According to the hadeeth of Abu Bakr(RA) referred to
above: “He will be followed by people with faces like
burnished shields.” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, no. 2136).
• Anas (RA) said:
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Dajjal (the
Antichrist) will be followed by seventy thousand Jews of
Isfahan and will be dressed in robes of green coloured
satin."
[Muslim English Book reference : Book 19, Hadith 1812]
10. The Fitnah of the Dajjaal
• The fitnah of the Dajjaal will be the greatest fitnah from the time Allah
created Adam until the Hour begins. This will be because of the mighty
miracles that Allah will create with him, which will dazzle people’s minds
and amaze them.
• Narrated Al-Mughira bin Shu`ba:Nobody asked the Prophet as many
questions as I asked regarding Ad-Dajjal. The Prophet said to me, "What
worries you about him?" I said, "Because the people say that he will have a
mountain of bread and a river of water with him (i.e. he will have
abundance of food and water)" The Prophet said, "Nay, he is too mean to
be allowed such a thing by Allah"' (but it is only to test mankind whether
they believe in Allah or in Ad-Dajjal.)
(Sahih Bukhari English reference : Vol. 9, Book 88, Hadith 238; Arabic
reference : Book 93, Hadith 7208)
• According to the hadeeth of Umaamah al-Baahili (RA), the Prophet (PBUH)
said of the Dajjaal: “Part of his fitnah will be that he will say to a Bedouin,
Do you think that if I resurrect your father and mother for you that you will
testify that I am your lord?’ He will say, ‘Yes.’ So two devils will appear to
him in the image of his father and mother, saying, ‘O my son, follow him
for he is your lord.’” (Narrated by Ibn Maajah, no. 4067. Classed as saheeh
by al-Albaani, Saheeh al-Jaami’ al-Sagheer, hadeeth 7752).
11. Who will be Against him?
• People of the tribe of Bani Tamim would stand firm
against Ad-Dajjal
• Sahih Muslim Book 31 : Hadith 6133
Abu Huraira reported: Since I heard three things from
Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) my love for
Banu Tamim is never on the decline (and these things are):
I heard Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as
saying about them that they would put up stout resistance
against Dajjal amongst my Umma. And he (the narrator)
said: (When) the consignment of Zakat was brought to him,
Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: This is the
charity of our people, and there was one slave-girl in the
house of 'A'isha and she was from the tribe of Banu Tamim;
thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said:
Set her free, for she is from the offspring of Isma'il
12. Protection Against Dajjaal(DUA)

torture of hell, and I seek Your protection from
the torture of the grave, and I seek refuge
with You from the mischief of life and death,
and I seek Your protection from the mischief of
Dajjal pretending as Messiah. O Allah! I seek
refuge in You from sin and from debt.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari 2:102, Muslim 1:412, 588]
13. In the Light of Holy
Prophet(PBUH)
Muhammad(SAW) have said:
• “Ad-Dajjal is blind in the right eye and his eye
looks like a bulging out grape”.[1]
• “He will be a young man with very curly hair, with
his eye floating. It is as if he looks like ‘Abd al-
‘Uzza ibn Qatan.”[2]
• “May I not inform you about the Dajjal what no
Apostle of Allah narrated to his people? He would
be blind and he would bring along with him an
Image of Paradise and Hell-Fire and what he would
call as Paradise that would be Hell-Fire and I warn
you as Noah warned his people.”[3]
14. In the Light of Companions
• Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: Allah's Apostle said. "While I was
sleeping, I saw myself (in a dream) performing Tawaf around
the Ka'ba. Behold, I saw a reddish-white man with lank hair, and
water was dropping from his head. I asked, "Who is this?' They replied,
'The son of Mary.' Then I turned my face to see another man with a
huge body, red complexion and curly hair and blind in one eye. His
eye looked like a protruding out grape. They said (to me), he is Ad-
Dajjal." The Prophet added, "The man he resembled most is Ibn
Qatan, a man from the tribe of Khuza'a."[5]
• Narrated Ibn Umar: Once Allah's Apostle stood amongst the
people, glorified and praised Allah as He deserved. Then,
mentioning Dajjal, he said, "I warn you against him (i.e. the
Dajjal) and there was no prophet but warned his nation
against him. No doubt, Noah warned his nation against him
but I tell you about him something of which no prophet told
his nation before me. You should know that he is one-eyed,
and Allah is not one-eyed."[
15. Continued
Ali was reported to have said:
• His right eye will be punctured, and his left eye would be raised to his
forehead and will be sparkling like a star. Only the believers will be able to
read the word ‘Kafir’[disbeliever], inscribed in bold letters, on his
forehead. There will be big mountains of smoke at both front and
backsides of his caravan. People will anticipate food within those
mountains, during the severe famine. All rivers, falling in his way, will
become dry and he will call upon people in a loud voice, "O my friends
come to me! I am your lord who has made your limbs and given you
sustenance.[7]
• It was narrated that Abu Bakr Siddiq said: "The Messenger of Allah ( ﷺ) told
us: 'Dajjal will emerge in a land in the east called Khorasan, and will be
followed by people with faces like hammered shields.'"[9] and will travel
the whole world preaching his falsehood, but will be unable to
enter Mecca or Medina.[4] Isa (Jesus) will return and the Dajjal will gather
an army of 70,000 Jews from Isfahan, of those he has deceived and lead
them in a war against Jesus who shall be accompanied by an army of the
righteous, along with Imam Mahdi.
16. Death
• Al-nawwas b. Sim’an al-Kilabi said: Then Jesus son of
Marry will descend at the white minaret to the east of
Damascus. He will then catch him up at the gate of
Ludd and kill him.
(Sunan Abi Dawud 4321 ; Book 39, Hadith 31)
• Muslim:-narrated a lengthy hadeeth from al-Nawwaas
ibn Sam’aan (RA) about the Dajjaal, in which the story
of the descent of ‘Eesa and his killing the Dajjaal are
mentioned. In this hadeeth the Prophet (PBUH) said: “…
Every kaafir who will smell the fragrance of (‘Eesa) will
die, and his fragrance will reach as far as he will be able
to see. He will then search for him (the Dajjaal) until he
catches up with him at the gate of Ludd, where he will
kill him.”
