March 2011
Wow, there sure is a lot going on with the Society for Technical
Communication these days. The STC web sitehas been
redesigned as part of Project Phoenix and we have future plans to
integrate more networking with the STC community. The
annual STC Summit is coming up in a couple of months and local
chapters have been receiving notice of recognition, including the
Philadelphia Metro Chapter. It's official. We've been honored
with a 2010 Community of Excellence award!
There are also many opportunities in the next few weeks if you're
looking to participate and learn a few things - not just locally, but
regionally as well. Of course, to get the best deals on these events
you will need to renew your 2011 STC membership before it
officially expires in a few short days.

2. 2011 Mid-Atlantic Technical
Communication Conference
This weekend is the weekend!
Friday, March 25th and Saturday, March 26th, the 2011 Conference is
taking place in Willow Grove, PA. The STC Philadelphia Metro Chapter
is fortunate to have several erudite presenters, including Don Moyer,
our Keynote Speaker.
Don Moyer is one of the founding members of ThoughtForm, Inc. located in
Pittsburgh, PA. Don is an STC member and an AIGA Fellow. He has earned
both a B.F.A. and an M.F.A. He received his bachelor's from Philadelphia's
University of the Arts (College of Fine Arts) and received his master's from
Yale University. He has worked as a senior designer at the Westinghouse
Design Center and worked as a graphic designer in Philadelphia, New
Haven, and Toronto, before co-founding ThoughtForm, Inc.
Moyer loves to make complex and technical subjects accessible to non-
specialized audiences. In addition to this, he also writes a monthly column
for the Harvard Business Review (Panel Discussion) in which he attempts to
teach a simple business lesson visually.
