FOLLOWING MISLEADING MEDIA ALLEGATIONS
Attention of Research Care and Training Programme-Family
AIDS Care and Education Services (RCTP-FACES) has been
drawn to misleading media reports published in The Standard
and Daily Nation newspapers linking the NGO to alleged
misappropriation of funds in KEMRI.
The Board of Directors of RCTP-FACES would like to set the
record straight as follows:
1. RCTP-FACES was established in 2007 to support Repro-
ductive health, HIV and TB related Research, Prevention,
Treatment and Capacity building. It is duly registered as
an NGO under Kenyan Law.
2. Since inception , amongst other projects, the NGO has
been a lifeline to thousands of Kenyans especially in
Western Kenya and has supported the enrolment of
160,000 and active treatment of 80,000 people for HIV
through 148 government and private health facilities in
4 counties (Migori, Homabay, Kisumu and Nairobi)
through donor funding.
3. The NGO relies on donor funding from various sources
and collaborates with local and international organiza-
tions; as well as National and county government to
achieve its goals.
4. Contrary to media reports, the NGO does not compete
for funding with KEMRI. Instead, the programmes
undertaken by the NGO are complementary to KEMRI’s
mandate, and a number of them are undertaken in
support of KEMRI.
5. The NGO has robust financial guidelines and controls
and all funding is governed by specific donor financial
and co-operative agreements and rules. The audited
reports are available for scrutiny.
6. Contrary to media reports, no funds have been diverted
from KEMRI to the NGO since its inception. No Govern-
ment or donor funds have been lost, misappropriated or
diverted.
7. There is no conflict of interest between staff of KEMRI
and the NGO. The staff of KEMRI who founded the NGO
resigned many years ago and a vibrant Board of Direc-
tors is in charge of the NGO.
8. The Board and Management of RCTP FACES are commit-
ted to continue serving Kenyans by offering Reproduc-
tive health, HIV and TB-related clinical care and services
based on quality, integrity and accountability.
