1. Formation of the Gospel Matthew presents the gospel in five teaching speeches of Jesus.
2. I. Sermon on the Mount Life style of the wise scribes of this gospel.
3. When he saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he sat down his disciples came to him. He began to teach them saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs are the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you because of me. Matthew 5.1-11

The Missionary Lifestyle Discourse The last chapter of the Gospel of Matthew specifies the calling of all disciples of Christ: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matthew 28:19-20). This is the mission of all Christians that have a faithful commitment to Jesus Christ. It is to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to the world and teach the lessons that He commands.
5. III. The Parables Discourse What is the Kingdom that is being preached? “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of the joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” Matthew 13.44
6. IV. The Advice to the Divided Community How is the community to be structured? Matthew explains that the community should be like the one Jesus preached at the Sermon on the Mount (chapter 5). But it should also be modeled after the kingdom of heaven.
7. V. The Eschatological Discourse Where is the future heading? Matthew says that the Son of Man will come again, but his coming will be delayed so we must stay awake and ready because we do not know the hour when the lord will come again. Matthew 24.35-39
