A statistical summary is the process of organizing and analyzing primary statistical data to identify typical features, patterns, and relationships. The main goal is to derive generalized statistical indicators that characterize phenomena and their common traits. A summary can be simple, involving only totals, or complex, dividing data into groups and calculating results for each. It can also be centralized, with all raw data processed centrally, or decentralized, where initial processing is done locally and results combined progressively up the chain. Key aspects of a compilation program include determining grouping variables, metrics to calculate, table layouts, and data coding for computer processing.

2. WHAT IS A STATISTICAL
SUMMARY?
Statistical compilation is the process of arrangement,
systematization and scientific processing of primary
statistical material to identify typical features and
regularities of the phenomena and processes being
studied.
The main task of compilation is to obtain
generalizing statistical indicators that
characterize the essence of socio-
economic phenomena and their typical
features and regularities.
3. • determination of grouping features and order of formation of
groups and subgroups of data;
• justification of the system of statistical indicators that must be
calculated for each of the groups and the population as a
whole;
• development of layouts of statistical tables in which the
summary results will be presented;
• preparation of data for computer processing, i.e. assigning to
units of the population the appropriate identification code
(cipher), developed and approved by statistical authorities.
THE COMPILATION PROGRAM INCLUDES
THE FOLLOWING ISSUES:
4. A simple summation consists in
the calculation of total sums for
the population being studied,
without dividing its units into
groups.
A complex summary involves:
• distribution of population
units into homogeneous
groups;
• calculation of the results
for each of the groups and
the population as a whole;
• presentation of the results
of grouping and summary
in the form of statistical
tables.
According to the complexity of
processing the primary materials, the
assembly can be simple or complex.
5. According to the organization and method of data
processing, the summary can be centralized and
decentralized.
Centralized summary consists in the fact that all primary observation
materials are concentrated and processed in the central statistical
body - the State Statistics Service of Ukraine (SSU). For example,
materials of the population census or national referendum on
particularly important issues of social life, etc.
Decentralized compilation is used mainly in the processing of statistical reporting,
when primary materials are processed and summarized in stages, from bottom to
top, by local statistical authorities, and the results of compilation are submitted to
the DSSU. Reports on the production and economic activity of enterprises are first
processed and compiled in regional statistical bodies, and then the results of the
compilation are submitted to the DSSU, where they are generalized throughout
Ukraine.
