6. Where education happens…
• Education to human rights goes
beyond classrooms and assemblies.
With the use of TV, internet blog
sites, posters, games, books, music,
art, theatre and other forms of
information dissemination we can
advocate for education, especially,
education to human rights.

Common Good
• The right to education serves the
common good because it can lift
up persons suffering from different
forms of abuses from their
situation: child labor, drug
addiction, battered women and
children, child soldiers,

• trafficked women and children,
children in armed conflict, children
in conflict with the law, and women
and children in situations of
poverty and hunger.

10. Education, Human Rights and
the Common Good
• Education gives non-violent alternatives
to violence and conflict. Education,
especially that of education to human
rights, restores their dignity and
freedom, fosters respect for self and
others, and develops them in various
aspects of their personality. Their
family, the community, and the society,
in general, will reap the benefits of
educating them.

11. Initiatives of VIDES
• On a worldwide level, VIDES is a
strong force in the advocacy on
human rights and education. In
the spirit of Don Bosco’s preventive
system, VIDES volunteers carry on
the task of educating the youth,
especially women and children,
that they may become good
Christians and honest citizens.

12. Initiatives of VIDES
• Among the activities of VIDES
volunteers are: tutorials for at-risk
high school girls, bible schools,
skills and literacy programs for
women, non-formal education,
clinics, kindergarten schools,
workshops for children, formative
meetings, fund raising for
educational programs,

• games, mobile library, summer
camps, catechesis, mission camps,
work among streetchildren,
orphans and migrants, newsletters,
games, arts and crafts, home visits,
training of volunteers, etc..

14. VIDES Networking
• VIDES values the importance of
networking with government
organizations, non-government
organizations, faith-based organizations
and peoples’ organizations. Through
networking, VIDES volunteers have
actively participated in seminars,
conferences, advocacies; organized
activities with non-Christians and
peoples from various cultures and
tribes;

15. VIDES Networking
• coordinated with various
international and national civic
organizations, governments and
parishes for its various programs
for women and children; and have
generated funds for all its projects.

16. Statement of COMMITMENT
• Each FMA, Delegate and VIDES
volunteer present in this workshop
drafted their personal commitment
to render free and generous
service to the various programs of
VIDES in their respective countries
and places of assignment,
particularly in the field of
educating women and children and
making known to them their rights.
