The Arc of Indiana, a statewide advocacy organization for people with disabilities, established The Arc Development Group, LLC (ADG) in
2012. The purpose of the LLC is to invest its time and resources in business ventures that provide training and employment opportunities
for individuals with disabilities. In an effort to help individuals with disabilities become more self-sufficient, ADG is developing a “Teaching
Hotel and Training Institute” in partnership with the City of Muncie, Indiana where people with disabilities will be provided post secondary
education opportunities and a significant percentage of employees will be people with disabilities with salaries and benefits.

THE PROJECT AND IT’S PURPOSE
n According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2011 unemployment among individuals with disabilities was 82%.
n In the absence of employment, individuals with disabilities are forced to seek public assistance to survive.
n Hospitality is the word’s fastest growing industry according to a study conducted by Eastern Michigan University.
n Developed by The Arc of Indiana, The Teaching Hotel & Training Institute will be Indiana’s first statewide hospitality training institute
for individuals with disabilities.
n The project’s primary goal is to provide post secondary education opportunities that will successfully train individuals with disabilities
in the hospitality industry resulting in their employment.
n The Teaching Hotel and Training Institute will train and employ individuals with disabilities throughout the hotel in various capacities
including management.
n To promote independence, The Teaching Hotel will create entrepreneurial venture opportunities within the hotel that are owned by
individuals with disabilities such as a news stand, flower shop, shoe shine stand and other related ventures.
n The project will provide a resource for Indiana businesses to successfully hire and maintain employees with disabilities.
n The Teaching Hotel & Training Institute will be a 125-150 room property in downtown Muncie, IN with a restaurant and an attached
parking garage.
n Estimated at up to $25 million, the project will be affiliated with a major hotel brand.
n The Teaching Hotel will feature original artwork created by individuals with disabilities with opportunities to sponsor the artwork.
n The Teaching Hotel will operate for profit. Profits will be used to support The Training Institute and other initiatives of The Arc of Indiana.
n The project will create approximately 30 permanent jobs in various capacities within the hotel for individuals with disabilities.
n Ground breaking is planned for March 2014. Anticipated opening is slated for July 2015.
n Located at 213 and 123 West Seymour Street in downtown Muncie, IN, The Teaching Hotel and Training Institute will be attached to
Horizon Convention Center.

n Muncie Downtown Development Partnership and Horizon Convention Center, Muncie’s premiere special-event venue.
n Schmidt Associates, an award-winning Indianapolis based planning, architecture and engineering design firm.
n Post-secondary training partnerships are being pursued with Ivy Tech Community College and Ball State University.
n Affiliated with a major brand, the hotel’s daily operations will be managed by Indianapolis management company, General Hotels Corporation.

n The Teaching Hotel and Training Institute project will lower Indiana’s unemployment rate and generate new tax revenues.
n The Training Institute will provide a well-trained workforce for employment in the hospitality industry in communities throughout IN.
n The project will serve as an economic development model demonstrating the strength and benefit of private and public investments.
n The Teaching Hotel & Training Institute will set the standard for the future development of similar teaching hotel projects.
n The project will provide a positive economic impact for the City of Muncie through additional property taxes and increased convention
and tourism business.
n The project will create additional tourism and hospitality employment opportunities for Muncie.
n Development of The Teaching Hotel and Training Institute project will create construction opportunities for area contractors.
PROJECT FUNDING
n The project received a $5 million investment from the State of Indiana.
n Horizon Convention Center has gifted the land for The Teaching Hotel and Training Institute project.
n The Ball Brothers Foundation in Muncie has provided a grant to be used for start up expenses.
n The Arc of Indiana Board of Directors is providing start-up and capital funding.
