“In 2007-08, the National Sports Center for the Hal O’Leary is a legendary figure in
Disabled increased services and awareness for the world of disabled sports. In 1970,

3. Organization’s Mission, History, and Scope
The mission of the National Sports Center for the
Disabled (NSCD) is to provide quality outdoor
sports and therapeutic recreation programs that
positively impact the lives of people with physical, The NSCD Served Over 3,800 People

Founded in 1970, the NSCD provides thousands of people with adaptive recreational
opportunities and has grown into a world leaded in therapeutic recreation.
Gifts of time and money support NSCD programming
and provide the resources used to provide people
with disabilities life-altering experiences.
The NSCD serves people with any disability –
physical, cognitive, emotional, social – in over
20 different kinds of year-round sports and activities.
Therapeutic recreation significantly contributes to the health and well-being
of people with disabilities and provides opportunities for people to build
confidence and self-esteem while improving their overall quality of life.

NSCD Sports Camp Stats – Soccer Ability League in partnership with U.S. Paralympics,
introductory sports clinics ages 6 –18 for all disabilities Major League Soccer teams, and local soccer clubs

9. Volunteers
Volunteers are the backbone of the NSCD. Over 1,300 volunteers worked almost 35,000
hours which saved NSCD labor expenses of $703,890 as determined by the Bureau of
