ABOUT US
Dufferin Aggregates is a division of St. Lawrence
Cement and a major supplier of high quality
aggregates to the Greater Toronto Area and
Hamilton Markets. Operating sites include:
six quarries, 13 sand and gravel pits and three
distribution yards. Much of Dufferin’s production
goes to it’s sister companies Dufferin Concrete
and Dufferin Construction Company. Projects
of note include Highway 407 (Dufferin supplied
10 million tonnes of crushed stone for the road
base and concrete pavement), runways at
Pearson Airport and the subway system
in Toronto.
Dufferin Aggregates has 346 employees in
total and the Milton Quarry has between 110
and 120 full time or seasonal employees. In
all, St. Lawrence Cement’s 2900 employees in
Canada serve some 8,000 customers in
Canada and on the eastern seaboard of the
United States. The company operates four
cement plants, 21 distribution terminals, two
mineral component terminals, 42 ready-mix
concrete plants, 24 quarries and sand pits and
three major construction operations.

CONCRETE STONE

Asphalt mix designs usually in top coat,
also for concrete mix designs where
placement is in areas of congested
reinforcing steel structures.
ARMOUR STONE
Typical size (mm): 300 - 1200
Description – Quarried
product – Jagged edges.
Uses – Landscape, retaining
walls.
POTATO STONE
Typical size (mm): 50 – 100
Description – Natural round shape.
Uses – Landscape.
19MM CONCRETE STONE
Typical size (mm): 5 – 19
Description – Clear stone with most
sizes between 5mm – 20mm, with
very little to no dust fractions. Both
quarried or Natural round shape.
Uses – Very large component for
Concrete mix design for buildings,
Street curbs, walls.
HIGH PERFORMANCE
BEDDING “CHIP”
Typical size (mm): 3 – 8
Description – Mostly single
size product between 3mm
– 8mm, with very little to no
dust fractions.
Uses – Ground leveling prior
to placement of paving stone
(Driveways). Drainage stone
placed behind retaining walls,
provides drainage near concrete
pipes in sewer and water main
applications.

4. GRANULAR A
Typical size (mm): 0.075 – 26
Description – Dense graded
aggregates with top size of
22.4mm and fines portion below
4.75mm limited to 55% passing.
Product is available from either a
quarried site or from a Sand and
Gravel pit.
Uses – Base leveling material
prior to construction of final lift in
Asphalt or Concrete road surface.
FINE AGGREGATE - SAND
Description – Rough feel
– sandy product.
Uses – Key product for Concrete
and Asphalt mix designs.
GRANULAR B
Typical size (mm): 0.075 – 106
Description – Well graded
aggregates which fall under 3
sub-categories. Products range
from 150mm to specification
driven dust contents between 8
and 10 percent, depending on the
origin of the prodcut being a
quarried or pit site.
Uses – Sub base material under
Granular A, usually to provide
stability to sub-base soils.
SCREENINGS
Typical size (mm): 0.1 - 10
Description – Mostly fines with
40% balance of chip like material.
Uses – For “dry” concrete mixes in
block and patio slab production.
TRACKMIX
Typical size (mm): 0.1 - 10
Description – Consists of
various blends of materials
satisfying track requirements.
Uses – Horse racing tracks and
various recreational playing fields
such as baseball diamonds.
BUNKER SAND
Typical size (mm): 0.1 - 10
Description – Product from quarried
source predominately from sandstone.
Uses – For bunker sand and golf
courses.

HIGH STABILITY
SAND (HSS)
Typical size (mm): 0.1 – 5
Description – Very coarse
sand, with chip like size with
fine fraction down to 0.15mm.
Uses – Key product for asphalt
mix designs in both Heavy Duty
Binder Coarse & top coat.
POND FINES
Typical size (mm): 0.1 – 3
Description – Very fine sand product.
Uses – Fill material, landscape projects.
AGLIME
Typical size (mm): less the 2mm and
predominately 50% passing the 75
micron size
Description – Fine powder like product
typically generated from a quarried site.
Uses – Primary function of Aglime is to
increase soil pH, resulting in a natural
way to increase crop yields among a
wide-range of soil conditions.

ROAD BUILDERS
