2. Personal Life
• She was born the 15 of February in 1910.
• Her religion is the Roman Catholic.
• Her father died in February 1917 from typhus that he
contracted while he was treating patients. After his
dead, Jewish community leaders offered her
mother help in paying for Irena´s education.
• She studied Polish literature at the Warshaw
University.
• She died 12 of May in 2008. ( she was 98)
3. Who was Irena?
• She was a nurse in the Warsaw ghetto during the
World War II.
• She was considered The Angel of the Warsaw
Ghetto.
4. What did she do?
• She rescue 2,500 jewish children by pretending to
be a nurse in the Warsaw Ghetto and creating
underground tunnels.
• The children she rescued were placed with Polish
families, in the Warsaw orphanage, or in Roman
Catholic convents such as the Little Sister Servants
of the Blessed Virgin Mary Conceived Immaculat.
5. What did she do?
• She provided the children fake identity documents
so that they could get out of the Ghetto.
• When the Nazis discovered whats she was doing
they tortured her and sentenced her to death but
she find away to escape from her execution and
she survived the war

• Is a 2009 movie about what she did, directed by
John Kent Harrison.
• It was produced by Cameron Johann and
Lawrence John Spagnola and John Kent Harrison
wrote it.
• It was released on April 19, 2009
• In the movie Anna Paquin represent Irena Sendler.
7. Nobel Prize
• She was nominated by the Polish Goverment to the
Nobel Prize of Peace on 2007.
• She was considered one of the last living heroes of
her generation .
• She didn´t won the Nobel Prize but she had other
awards.
• She had 97 years old when she was nominated to
the prize.
8. Awards
• On 10 October of 2003 she received the Order of
the White Eagle, Poland´s highest civilian
decoration.
• She also won the Jan Karski Award for “Courage
and Heart”
• On 11 April 2007, she the Order of the Smile
• In May 2009, she received the Audrey Hephburn
Humanitarian Award.
9. Why she inspires us?
• Even if she was not jewish she saved 2,500 children
from being killed.
• So now all that kids that she rescued could have a
happy life and make their own families and still
practice the jewish religion. All of that because she
risked her live even she didn´t have to.

• That is why she inspires us because she gave it
everything just to save children she didn´t even
knew.
• People like that are self-less they put in first place
the people insted of themselves
• That kind of acts are the ones that we should
remember the rest of our life.
