Perhaps one of the easiest ways to explain competency-based education is through the comparison to traditional higher education. Most of us and our students have had at least their pre-college coursework (K-12) in a traditional model.
-assessments based on competencies
-students pay for time rather than credits, and can do as much as possible within that time, saving time and money to degree completion.
-students don't spend time learning things that they already know
-support and learning in the areas that they don't know as well and the faculty role
-student mentor relationship
Use WGU and SNHU as examples.
