4. ABOUT DR VERGHESE KURIEN
DR Verghese Kurien was a renowned Indian Social
entrepreneur and engineer best known as the
“FATHER OF WHITE REVOLUTION” and founder of
AMUL.
He has given “BILLION LITER IDEA” the world biggest
agricultural development programmers.
5. This operation took India from a milk- deficient nation
to the largest milk producer in the world, surpassing
US in 1998, with about 17% of global output in 2010-
2011 within 30 years doubled the milk available to every
person.
He helped to become dairy farming the India’s largest
self- sustaining industry.

7. DR Verghese Kurien married with Molly
Kurien in 1954, daughter of Verghese
neighbor in Kerala.
He has one daughter named Nirmala
Kurien.
His Grandson name is Siddharth.
8. When Dr Verghese Kurien returned from US on 13 May 1949
he joined government of India’s experimental creamery at
Anand in Gujarat.
Then he joined farmer cooperative union of process and sell
their milk pioneering concept set up by Tribhuvander.
This inspired Verghese Kurien to dedicate himself toward the
challenging task.
Then he founded AMUL .
He invented the process of making skim milk powder and
condensed milk from buffalo milk

10. He made India self sufficient in milk production
He helped to create a flood of milk by unique daily
cooperative movement.
This surpassed US in milk production in 1998 as world
largest produce with annual growth of 5 to 6%.
He helped to make cooperative from 2 village dairy to
8100 societies with 250 million members and supplying to
1000 cities.
his model made milk procurement increased from 20
million metric tones per year in 60s to 122 million metric
tonnes in 2011
11. Then Prime Minster Lal Bahadur Shastri created National
Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to replicate the above
program nationwide and made him the chairman.
Under the chairmanship of Dr Verghase Kurien NDDB
instrumental in successful running operational Flood known as
“WHITE REVOLUTION”
It continued for 26 years and made India the world largest milk
producer

1. 1st phase -1970 to 1980
2. 2nd phase - 1981 to 1985
3. 3rd phase - 1985 to 1996

He is an architect who made India the world largest milk
producer of world
He joined a small time dairy cooperative. But since he
joined this cooperative grew from few liter a day to over 90
liter a day under a popular brand- AMUL
AMUL turnover now is 112 million metric liter with 1000
crore cooperative.
He made AMUL top milk and milk product brand name.
