INDUSTRY SPEAKERS
EXHIBITORS
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of SES, I would like to welcome you all to SMi Group’s 15th annual
Global MilSatCom conference & exhibition.
SES is happy to be lead sponsor at this foremost military satellite communication
conference and exhibition. I am also proud to have been Chairman of this event
for the past 10 years and have seen it grow into an industry stalwart over the
years.
We are all aware that due to the global financial constraints the pressure is on
Governments to reduce expenditure. The defence budget is no exception and the
challenge for many Governments is how to manage the reduction in defence
whilst maximising their information superiority.
Our strategy, therefore as industry professionals, is to rise to this challenge and
continue to develop innovative technologies, from software to satellites and
thereby increase the attractiveness and usefulness of our products and services.
This conference is an ideal platform to hear about these ideas in a knowledge
sharing environment involving decision makers, Government representatives,
military and other leading international industry professionals.
Please join in the question and answer sessions, network with industry peers and
learn about new breakthroughs in this defence arena. But most of all, enjoy
yourselves at this premier annual event in London.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Sincerely yours,
Gerard Donelan

Day Three I Rest of the World
Conquering Interference
– The Next Big SatCom Challenge
PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP HOSTED BY COBHAM | 4TH NOVEMBER 2013
Workshop Overview
Satellite services are widely used by military commanders to provide
key tactical communications capabilities to their forces anywhere in
the world. Satellite communication relies on detecting tiny signals in
a fog of radio frequency “noise”. Interference, either unintended or
deliberate, is becoming a major threat to maintaining assured and
reliable communications links. Bringing together operator, installer
and equipment supplier perspectives, the workshop will look at the
main sources of interference in satellite communications links and
explore why interference is becoming an ever increasing issue.
Presenters from Cobham Technical Services, the GVF, the Satellite
Interference Reduction Group and Eutelsat will look at the
challenges posed by this important issue, identify potential
solutions and describe what is being done within the satellite
community to ensure that robust satellite communications can be
sustained in more congested environment in the future.
Who Should Attend?
The workshop is aimed at those involved in the design, specification,
procurement, installation or use of satcom systems. Delegates will
gain a broad understanding of the challenges posed by interference,
its origins and how to tackle it more effectively.

THE VENUE
What have past attendees said about Global MilSatCom?
“The consistent quality and the fact it truly is an international conference in
which the perspectives of many nations presented…SMi has once again
improved Global MilSatCom over its predecessors. I and several veterans
of these conferences have chatted and
we all agree – quality of presenters and content has been the highest ever.
Great job! Well done.” Orbital Sciences Corporation
“Considered it a very useful conference. There was a good mix of technical, operational and policy topics. Clearly many
organisations struggle with similar problems. Solutions are out there the insights provided will help to address the various
challenges ahead. Overall all the speakers were of high quality, all of the presentations were of a high standard.”
NATO Headquarters C3 Staff
The conference’s success calls for a greater space for both conference and
exhibition. Global MilSatCom is now a reference in this sector.
Congratulations.” WSR

  • 3. Dear Colleagues, On behalf of SES, I would like to welcome you all to SMi Group’s 15th annual Global MilSatCom conference & exhibition. SES is happy to be lead sponsor at this foremost military satellite communication conference and exhibition. I am also proud to have been Chairman of this event for the past 10 years and have seen it grow into an industry stalwart over the years. We are all aware that due to the global financial constraints the pressure is on Governments to reduce expenditure. The defence budget is no exception and the challenge for many Governments is how to manage the reduction in defence whilst maximising their information superiority. Our strategy, therefore as industry professionals, is to rise to this challenge and continue to develop innovative technologies, from software to satellites and thereby increase the attractiveness and usefulness of our products and services. This conference is an ideal platform to hear about these ideas in a knowledge sharing environment involving decision makers, Government representatives, military and other leading international industry professionals. Please join in the question and answer sessions, network with industry peers and learn about new breakthroughs in this defence arena. But most of all, enjoy yourselves at this premier annual event in London. I look forward to seeing you there. Sincerely yours, Gerard Donelan Vice-President Governments and Institutions, SES
