Select the appropriate time and place to present your idea. <ul><li>if the listener is rushed or easily interrupted, they can't give you their full attention </li></ul><ul><li>invite only those who need to be there </li></ul><ul><li>gather all the information needed to sell your idea and organize it well in advance of the meeting </li></ul><ul><li>set up the equipment prior to the meeting time to demonstrate your preparedness </li></ul>

Describe the background of the idea <ul><li>people often plunge in without explaining the why and how of current conditions </li></ul><ul><li>don't assume the listeners are going to know pertinent details </li></ul><ul><li>if appropriate, hand out information at this point in the meeting or use another visual aid </li></ul>
