Similarities Between Antigone And Martin Luther King Jr
Antigone believes that the laws of the gods should supersede the laws of men. Personally, she feels
that the consequences of disobeying Creon s law are inferior to the consequences of disobeying these
higher laws. Morality is of greater importance to Antigone than her life, and ironically enough, in the
conclusion of Antigone she is sentenced to her death for her transgressions against the law.
Consistently throughout the play, Antigone struggles to understand how one could value the laws of
men more than the laws of the gods. How savagely impious men use me, for keeping a law that is holy
(942 943, Sophocles). Rather than succumbing to a law that she knows is not just, Antigone
demonstrates kleos by being steadfast in her morality.
Martin Luther King Jr. displays similar courage in fighting for justice rather than accepting his
situation, and the situation of all African American people, for what it is. Even though Martin Luther
King Jr. lived in a democracy, the laws that governed him were not democratic. African Americans
had little say in the laws that they were expected to follow, for many could not vote. As King says,

Both were oppressed by laws that they had no control over, and both fought against those laws with
the reasoning that morality is more important than the words of men. Rather than obeying Creon s
decree, Antigone chose to display the respect she had for her brother. King placed his political and
social goals for equality in America over his personal safety. Consequently, both Antigone and King
paid the ultimate price for their actions and beliefs with their lives. While Antigone s motive for
breaking the law was more personal, and King s was more politically inclined, the ideas they shared in
regards to the morality of breaking such laws were similar: a morally unjust law is not truly a law at

Personal Essay On Illinois
The name of the state that I am doing is Illinois. Illinois is to the left of Indiana and below
Wisconsin. The absolute location of Illinois is 40.0000 degrees N, 89.0000 degrees W.
This state is where I was born, and I lived there for 9 years in my hometown of Minooka.
My parents drive me to and from my destination. And when it was a school day I usually
took the bus to school that stopped in my neighborhood. I find Illinois appealing because
I like the cold and the woodland areas.
The Central Plaines covers 90% of Illinois. It is composed of rolling plains
created by glaciers from the ice age. Fertile soil makes up these plains, which allows
agriculture. The Central Plains is divided into 3 sections: the Great Lakes Plains, the

summer temperatures of Illinois are 7 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius) to the
North and 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 degrees Celsius) to the south. The record for the
coldest temperature in Illinois was on January 5, 1999 with 36 degrees Fahrenheit ( 37.8
degrees Celsius) at Congerville. Congerville is a village in Woodford County, Illinois.
The warmest temperature recorded in Illinois was on the 14th of July 1954 at 117 degrees
Fahrenheit (47 degrees Celsius) at East St. Louis. East St. Louis is directly across the
Mississippi from St. Louis. You can usually expect rain in Illinois twice a week. The state
receives 36 inches (91 centimeters) of precipitation a year. You can also expect to see 37
inches (94 centimeters) of snow a year in northern Illinois. But that number will decrease
to a mere 24 inches (61 centimeters) in the south. The average wind speed in the state of
Illinois is 10.4 miles per hour (16.7 kilometers per hour.) This number is still lower than
major US cities e.g. Boston. Since most of Illinois is covered in flat plains, you can

Critical Reasoning And Battle Of Thermopylae
Critical Reasoning and Battle Analysis of the Battle of Thermopylae
One of the most historic battles fought in the 5th century BC was the Battle of Thermopylae. The
Greeks and Persians battled for control of a narrow pass located at Thermopylae. This pass served as
the most direct route into mainland Greece and allowed freedom of maneuver to the Persians. The
Persians received a critical piece of human intelligence that allowed them to defeat the Greeks at the
pass. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the battle and determine an alternate outcome based on
the use of that intelligence.
The Battle of Thermopylae
Definition of the Battle
The Battle of Thermopylae took place in 5th century BC in Northern Greece. The primary adversaries
were the Persians and the Greeks. The Persian army, led by Xerxes I, far outnumbered the Greek
forces. Despite this, the Greeks were able to maintain control of the pass for three days.
The Settings of the Battle
Strategic and operational overview. The battle of Thermopylae was one of many battles fought by the
Persians in the quest to expand their empire, and the second in their quest to rule Greece. The Greeks
fought at the battle of Thermopylae to maintain rule of their own land and resist submission to the
Persians. In 491 BC, King Darius of Persia sent messengers to demand the Greeks submit to Persian
rule. The Greeks refused and incited the first battle in the war between Persia and Greece. This battle,
fought at Marathon

Dear Olivia s Letter
Dear Olivia is a detailed reminisce of a girl who was bullied until she became reclusive and wanted no
contact with other people. She was sent many letters as well as e mails to attempt to cheer her up and
get her back into the outside world. Later, with the help of her mother, she created a book with said
letters as well as her reactions to them. Some of the bullying that was described in the letters seemed a
bit unrealistic at times; the parent letter from Maggie was the most unrealistic considering the
circumstances. If something like throwing food happened often, then the supervisors should have done
something, or it should have been detailed that it is not allowed in the school rules. It should not have
escalated to the bullying stage,

Does Austerity Has Had A Corrosive Effect On The Disabled,...
This essay intends to argue that austerity has had a corrosive effect on the disabled, poor,
disadvantaged and penurious. There are various different measurements of inequality, the two that will
be analysed in this essay is the Lorenz Curve and the Gini coefficient. This essay will then explore the
case for austerity, and why the government decided to implement it. Since 2010, inequality has gone
down and employment has gone up. The crux of this essay will focus on the way in which austerity
has been implemented and the adverse consequences for those at the bottom of society. The policies
that have been enacted under austerity are more detrimental than the data would lead us to believe.
Austerity has a clear ideology behind it, an ideology

Character Analysis Of Arthur Gould s Merchant Of Venice
By analyzing one of the sources, the quote from Merchant of Venice, the detectives piece together the
correlation between the pound of flesh on the scale next to the victim and the reference to flesh in the
quote. Unfortunately, no fingerprints were found at the scene either implying that the murderer was
meticulous and careful or that he somehow removed his fingerprints, which makes it difficult for the
detectives to easily identify him. After reviewing the evidence and sources, Mills recalls that the
picture of Eli Gould s wife had her eyes circled in Mr. Gould s blood. From this evidence, they
deducted that the wife, although not physically at the crime scene, has knowledge that could somehow
help the case. After taking a second glance at the crime scene photos, she declares that a specific piece
of artwork has been rehung upside down, indicating to the detectives that it was at the behest of the
murderer. Behind the artwork, Somerset finds fingerprints, which is odd given that this is the first
crime scene where fingerprints have been found. The crime scene investigator, after using a black light
on the wall, discovers the words help me in the form of multiple fingerprints. These fingerprints are in
the national fingerprint database and match a man named Theodore Allen, who goes by Victor, has an
extended criminal history and had previously employed the second victim, Eli Gould, as his attorney.
Somerset, being the world weary cynic, is not convinced that Victor is

British Immigration After 1945
Immigration became a significant part of society in the post war period, it redefined the public s
perception regarding culture and attitudes in society. Despite this, it is worth noting that immigration
was not a new phenomenon in 1945. Britain had welcomed refugees in the past, notably the Irish who
became one of the largest groups throughout the 20th century. Many Europeans also sought refuge in
Britain, for example German refugees who fled to Britain in 1930 ; Peter Fryer notes on the existing
black community in Britain since the 16th century. However, the level of immigration after 1945 was
enough to redefine British culture and created an exclusive national identity by where Britishness is
now recognised through the colour of your skin. Race as a concept has also transformed, with culture
being a major element in British society. Politics has also had a major influence, with the introduction
of immigration laws bringing equality among Britain s citizens, although this could highlight the
opinions of the public with the need for legislation to be introduced. The economy thrived with
immigration, noting on the Windrush which allowed the empty gaps in employment to be filled.
However, despite the progress that has been made due to immigration, the reaction of the people wasn
t always as positive, subsequently leading to racial tensions and a lack of respect among the people for
immigration. These aspects are very significant when discussing the development of

Voting And Politics In The United States
Voting and Politics are topics that cause controversy amongst Americans. Moreover, many people do
not express his or her right to vote because they feel like their vote will not matter. Additionally, many
individuals just look for the republican or democratic candidate and conduct little research as to the
candidate s political views. I, however, look for three important aspects before voting for an
individual; His or her stance of education, the environment, and whether I feel they are genuine in
their promises. Since I am a special education major, education is important to me; not only for a job,
but for the future of our country. Before voting for an individual, I look to see how he or she plans to

Analysis Of The California High Speed Rail Authority
Criticism Financial Uncertainty It can be seen that a comprehensive financing plan is lacking from the
state and the Authority. The proposed bonds would be insufficient for Phase 1 alone putting the rest of
the project away from consideration. There is very little clarity on the potential matching funds to be
available from federal and local governments. The reliability on private investors for capital funds is
questionable approach. The California High Speed Rail Authority has received cautions from the state
Senate Transportation and Housing Committee regarding the availability of matching funds for High
Speed Rail construction. Most importantly the advisor of the California High Speed Rail Authority,
Lehman Brothers has described the risks that are capable of restricting private investment in the
project. These risks include cost overruns, doubt on ridership and revenue projections and political
meddling. The Legislative Analysts Panel also published an article in 2011 pointing out the huge
difference in the proposed and actual availability of funds. As per the Due Diligence Report of 2008, It
appears unlikely that sufficient private and public subsidy funding will be found to finance the
complete HSR plan. As a result, it is more likely that the system will either be built only in part or not
at all. Moreover, claims of profitability could not conceivably be true under even the most optimistic
assumptions. Although the current focus is on initial capital costs, there

Target Essay
Ads and commercials are on everything from the billboards you see going down the highway to the
ads you hear on the radio or TV. Every company uses them in different ways to try to appeal to
different audiences. Whether it s the older generations or the parents of newborn babies, all companies
try to appeal to people in order to sell their products. Target is a department store that has been around
since 1962 and they have grown and prospered ever since the beginning. Target is a branch off of the
Dayton Dry Goods Company started in 1902 by George Draper Dayton. Throughout the years the
store evolved and adapted until they eventually created the Target we know today in 1962. The first

Target is trying to make it easier on them by putting everything in one store. Men and women shop in
very different ways. Men are more likely to make a list and stick to and try to get in and out of class as
fast as possible. Women, however, are more likely to browse the aisles and look at everything that s in
the store rather than just what they need for themselves or the house at that moment (Wells). Target
shows the variety of items in their stores to help show the women in their store that different items that
they could find while browsing the store. By showing the different products, it helps make the women
want to go there because they can get away from the busyness of life by spending times wondering the
isles of Target. Not only can the women get away from the stressfulness of life, if they are in a rush
they can get everything they could need in one stop. Women make up over two thirds of the grocery
shoppers (Goodman). Of course, not all of these women are staying at home mom s or spouses so they
need to get their shopping done so that they can get back to the other parts of their lives. The same
way that Target is trying to appeal to women who like to browse when they shop, they are appealing to
those who need to get their shopping done in one quick stop. When showing all the grocery items
along with beauty products it allows the women to realize that they can get everything they need for

Analyse the Limitations on the Powers of the Prime Minister.
Analyse the limitations on the powers of the prime minister. There are limitations to the prime
ministers powers, despite the prime minister role being the highest in UK politics. The prime minister
still maintains many powers but one main limitation that there is, is the prime ministers party.
Ministerial appointments require some recognition of the need for political balance and administrative
competence. There is pressure from colleagues or the media to appoint certain people all Prime
Ministers at least listen to advice from senior colleagues before making appointments. The Prime

balanced by the fact that there are limitations to that power. While a Prime Minister has the backing of
his party, his position is secure; if he loses that support, then his position becomes very vulnerable.

Purple Hibiscus
In Chimamanda Adichie s Purple Hibiscus, the protagonist, Kambili Achike, receives very different
messages from two important women in her life. Kambili s mother is a submissive, dependent woman,
who teaches her daughter that it is a woman s job to be taken care of by her husband. Ifeoma, Kambili
s aunt is a single mother, who is confident and independent and knows what she wants. Mama shows
Kambili that she has no control over life; she teaches Kambili that it s better to step back and be quiet.
Aunty Ifeoma, on the other hand, shows Kambili that she can take control over her own life, and
shows her how to do just that. As a result, Aunty Ifeoma is a considerably better role model for
Kambili than Mama is.
Aunty Ifeoma s boldness makes Papa seem less dominating and more human, while Mama s
submissiveness makes Papa seem more godly and powerful. When Papa initially declines Aunty

Five Factor Personality Test Scores
Five Factor Personality Test Scores
I was excited to take The Five Factor Personality Test, since I have taken it before and would like to
see if there were any significant changes within my personality traits. After finding my results, it
concluded no significant change. My extraversion score was a 42, which is relatively high. My
agreeableness score was a high of 33. My conscientiousness score was 35, which is an average score.
My neuroticism score was a 30 and my openness score was a 29, both relatively high. I truly believe
this assessment is a good predictor of my personality (Buchanan, n.d.).
Accuracy of The Five Factor Personality Test I have to agree my assessment results are congruent
with my personality. As an extravert, I am extremely talkative and social. I enjoy interacting with
individuals on a daily basis and being able to communicate through speech. It was no surprise when I
saw my extraversion score at a high level. I tend to be a very agreeable person. I am always helping
others and putting their needs before my own. Sympathy and caring are personality traits learned over
the last few years in my life. I am an extremely conscientious person, who is always controlling my
surrounding environments. I rely heavily on myself and am determined to achieve my life goals. I
figured my neuroticism score would be high, since I am filled with anxiety, depression, and fear. My
ability to adjust to change is not the greatest, which affects my emotional stability. The

What Is The Similarities Between Religion And Religion
Throughout human history, religion has been on the forefront of what defines and brings us closer
together. It helps dictate how we treat ourselves and others as well as what we can do to have an
afterlife. Of the many religions that currently exist, Buddhism and Christianity are some the the most
practiced ones. These two religions have certain convictions, qualities and customs which are truly
alike, but they also have qualities, convictions and conventional practices are very opposing. This
makes the investigation of these two religions an intriguing and pleasurable assignment. The
similarities and differences of the two worship establishments are profound and gives people diverse
ways of thinking. The churches and temples play a significant role in these two religions. These are
the places where people can go to seek guidance, pray or meditate. Visiting the churches and temples
of these religions help individuals to understand in depth what the religion is about from the inside and
help philosophers to break down the true meaning of religion. While visiting each church, there were
different feelings as soon as I walked through the doors. At the Buddhist temple, the greeters at the

Lactose Intolerant People Research Paper
HELP FOR LACTOSE INTOLERANT PEOPLE
Who is a lactose intolerant person? This is a person who cannot digest lactose when ingested into his
body. How do you know that you are lactose intolerant? If you take fresh dairy products and diarrhoea
or get stomach upsets like bloating, pain, or cramps, regurgitation, flatulence, or gas, borborygmi
rumbling and gurgling in the stomach, nausea sometimes accompanied by vomiting, you could most
likely be a victim.
All is not lost if you still like dairy products, only in this case you may need to take tem in a different
state.
Milk has several components although many people take it as a source of protein, well it has 3.5%
protein but more than that it has a 2 8% of carbohydrates which majorly is lactose or what we call
milk sugar. This is what that gives the fresh milk a sweet taste.
In the digestion process, carbohydrates are digested from the mouth by the enzyme by salivary
amylase, in the stomach there isn t much further break down until when it gets to the small intestines.
Every sugar requires its enzyme to digest it, for example maltose requires maltase so lactose requires
lactase. Lactase enzyme is naturally produced by cells in the small intestine lining; it breaks lactose
into its simple sugars which are glucose and galactose. It cannot be absorbed in its complex state. ...

lactose intolerance in some people all together, though rare it cannot be ruled out. There are other

Imperialization Of Greek Civilization
Very few civilizations have had as profound an influence on the world as those of ancient Greece. The
Greeks laid the foundations for fields varying from philosophy to political theory to war tactics.
However, this influence was not just due to their intelligence or success, but their widespread presence
in the Mediterranean. Greek culture was spread throughout their known world in two distinct manners,
the foundation of apoikia in the Archaic Age (8th century to 500 B.C. ) and imperialists by poleis,
primarily Athens of the Classical Age (490 323 B.C ). Though the culture of a mother city
(mētropolis) may have spread through two very different manners of colonization. The word is not
used in the literal sense, but rather hereafter used to mean spreading of culture , as the former can
hardly be described using the contemporary definition of colonization and the latter was through
Athenian empire building. These developments had a significant impact on ancient Greece and our
modern perception thereof. Like most of the ancient world, we can best analyze these methods of
colonialism through extant artifacts. I will analyze an inscription of the foundation oath of Cyrene,
which recounts the decision and manner in which the island of Thera sent its citizens to the form a
new polis, and the fragments of the Lapis Primus, a marble monolith that documented tributes to
Athens when the city was at the peak of its imperial age, evidencing the magnitude of their power and
influence in the Greek region. The Cyrene inscription is a short oath from the 4th century B.C. that
describes, from three centuries prior, the Theran rationale behind forming Cyrene, the manner in
which they undertook this expedition, and their perception of the newly formed city. The inscription
claims that Apollo spontaneously ordered the Therans to send a group of people to Libya in order to
form a colony, with their citizen Battos as the king. The Theran assembly decided to send one son
from each household, who was in the prime of life, 4 along with any free man who desired to leave, to
colonize Cyrene. The assembly threatened anyone who resisted departure with the death penalty and a
curse upon him and his descendants. Once the

James Baldwin s Remember This House By James Baldwin
James baldwin was an American novelist, essayist, playwright, poet, and social critic. His essays were
mostly of racial, sexual, and class distinctions in Western societies, mostly in mid 20th century
America. Some of Baldwin s essays are book length, for instance The Fire Next Time (1963), No
Name in the Street (1972), and The Devil Finds Work (1976). An unfinished manuscript, Remember
This House, was expanded upon and adapted for cinema as the Academy Award nominated
documentary film I Am Not Your Negro. Writer and playwright James Baldwin was born August 2,
1924, in Harlem, New York. One of the 20th century s greatest writers, Baldwin broke new literary
ground with the exploration of racial and social issues in his many works. He was especially well
known for his essays on the black experience in America.
Baldwin was born to a young single mother, Emma Jones, at Harlem Hospital. She reportedly never
told him the name of his biological father. Jones married a Baptist minister named David Baldwin
when James was about three years old. Despite their strained relationship, he followed in his
stepfather s footsteps who he always referred to as his father during his early teen years. He served as
a youth minister in a Harlem Pentecostal church from the ages of 14 to 16.
Baldwin developed a passion for reading at an early age, and demonstrated a gift for writing during
his school years. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, where he worked on the

Why Is The Word Important Essay
Important; One of the many words that could mean everything. The meaning of that word means
differently according to kinds of people. Tracing the origin of the word would give us an idea on how
importance means when the word was first used, in other words, how the people in the Medieval times
defined the word. It will then be compared to how the word important means nowadays to see what
made the meaning change. Personal experience also contributes to how people define importance. If
you are going to ask me, I would say that a thing is important if it really is needed or essentially
necessary for us to live/survive in our lifetime.
According to Dictionary.com (n.d.), the word important is a stem from the Medieval Latin (1580 90)
word importāns, presentparticiple [sic] of importāre, to be of consequence, weigh. You could say in
other words that it means that it is being of significance or being of distinction. Based from the word s
origin, it can be assumed that people during that period say something is important if it s precious or ...

It is often said that our parents are our first teachers so our understanding and meaning of words first

how we think and interpret things. Nowadays, the environment we are at contributes greatly to how
we define things like importance for it is another way for us to adapt.

Female Athletes And Sporting Events
Abstract
It is obvious in the Western culture; gender makes a difference within the sports. Several studies have
shown how reality discriminates within female sporting events and athletes when compared to males.
The objective of this study is to examine how male athletes and sporting events dominate over female
athletes and sporting events since Title IX law was passed in 1972. The law stated that no person on
the basis of sex, in the U.S. would be discriminated against in any athletics or educational programs.
Since Title IX, women have had an incline in sports participation, equal education experience, pay
salaries, respect, and position opportunities. Though Title IX did make a change for females, it is still

In all areas listed above, female athletes and sporting events struggle and is underrepresented even
with Title IX s strong implementation of equality. In order for male athletes and sporting events to
decrease the dominance over female sporting events, all the support has to start with a change in fan
support.
As a female high school athlete growing up, I witnessed how different fans supported our male and
female sports. Our female soccer and basketball games attendance would consist of mostly parents
and a few students. In contrast, the male sports like football, baseball, and basketball games would
have the stands nearly full at the sound of the first horn or whistle blown. Since the male s game was
right after ours in basketball, fans would start falling in around the 3rd quarter of our game. If the
entertainment and intensity improve, funds increase, and media advertising and promotion inclined for
female athletes and sporting events, male athletes and sporting events would become less dominant
with the help of Title IX that provides ways of change in the history.
Our Western culture in America defines who we are, how we act, and what we do. Masculine
attributes are often common and seen as a stereotype. Males are viewed as strong, muscular, and

My Understanding Aligns Best With Developmental Models Of...
In terms of identifying a personal philosophy of change, I have found that my understanding aligns
best with developmental models of change. Developmental models suggest that people move through
stages of change as they grow. This understanding of change is especially useful in the supervisory
relationship. It is likely that the supervisee has a limited skill set and likely lacks confidence in his/her
ability, as he/she has only had limited experience in the beginning stages of change. As he/she
progresses through the stages, however, the skill set grows and more confidence is gained, as
explained by the developmental models. A large portion of the time, supervisees move through these
stages of change with the help of their supervisor. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the likely already present anxiety related to being a beginning therapist, working through these
issues may be more difficult. Therefore, it is important for the supervisor to be mindful of this and
provide support to the supervisee as need be. It is also important for the supervisor to remember that
the supervisee is likely still developing his/her own professional identity. The supervisee is a new
clinician and likely has little confidence and a limited skill set.
Due to this, there is importance in the supervisor being empathic. The supervisor should encourage the
supervisee to use problem solving skills to work through the change. The supervisor should continue
to encourage the supervisee to problem solve on his/her own as much as possible to improve his/her
skill set. That is, it is important to remember that the supervisee has likely already learned about what
to do in difficult situations they will come across, so the supervisor should encourage the supervisee to
resolve such issues on their own as much as they can. Then, the supervisor should work to normalize
and validate the supervisee s experience. It is the supervisor s job to know what stage the supervisee is
in, help him/her move through the stages by providing feedback that is in line with his/her current
developmental level, and subsequently assist the supervisee in his/her own progression to the next
stage so the

Anemia In Our Body System
Anemia is a condition in which one lacks an adequate amount of healthy red blood cells (RBC)
needed to transport the appropriate amount of oxygen from the lungs to tissues throughout the body.
The body systems affected by anemia include the Circulatory/Cardiovascular, Respiratory,
Integumentary, and the Musculoskeletal System. The system or systems affected depends on the type
of anemia acquired or disease acquired causing the anemic state. All of our body systems need healthy
blood to function to their best ability; anemia prevents proper functionality.

Often society s winners , both historical and contemporary, can be characterized by the common
ability to effectively manager and exploit change situations. Individuals, societies, nations and
enterprises who have at some time been at the forefront of commercial and/or technological expansion
have achieved domination, or at least competitive advantage, by being innovative in thought and/or
action. They have been both enterprising and entrepreneurial. It is said that management and change
are synonymous; it is impossible to undertake a journey, for in many respects that is what change is,
without first addressing the purpose of the trip, the route you wish to travel and with whom. Managing
change is about handling the complexities of travel. It is about evaluating, planning and implementing
operational, tactical and strategic journeys about always ensuring that the journey is worthwhile and
the destination is relevant. The Industrial Revolution, which developed in Europe between 1750 and
1880, accelerated the rate of change to an extent never previously thought possible. Other economies
followed and the rate of change has never declined; indeed, many would claim it has now accelerated
out of control. The spear and sword gave way to the gun; the scribe to the printing press; manpower to
the steam engine of James Watt; the horse and cart to the combustion engine; the typewriter to the
word processor; and so the list goes on. 3

Single-Gender Classrooms Essay
It is no secret that, in general, boys and girls differ in their learning styles. Capitalizing on these
differences could advance classroom performance. With on going concerns about student success in
school, any changes in the classroom that could increase student achievement should be considered.
Recognizing the learning differences between boys and girls, one of the changes that could be
instituted is single gender classrooms.
Single gender classrooms would allow boys and girls to be instructed in a way that is conducive to
them. Literature choices could be offered to girls that are different from the ones offered to the boys.
Science experiments for the boys could be more hands on and messy as opposed to the girls science ...

Review of the Literature When it comes to the classroom, there are several differences between girls
and boys. There are physical differences in the way their brains work, differences in the room
temperature that is best for boys and girls, and differences in how girls and boys respond to various
tones of speech (Sax, 2006). While girls prefer soft spoken teachers, Sax (2006) notes that boys prefer
to be spoken to loudly and in short, direct sentences with clear instructions (p. 195). According to Sax
(2006), the ideal ambient temperature for boys is about 69 degrees and about 75 degrees for girls (p.
193 194). Further differences involve how boys and girls learn. McNeil states that boys may learn
better under pressure and when allowed to move around...while girls may perform better in group
situations and with a lot of encouragement (McNeil, 2008). Because of these many differences, it
would stand to reason that boys and girls would benefit from being in separate classrooms. According
to Hughes (2007), the teacher would be able to concentrate on the learning styles of each sex and use
the styles to bring out the academic best in each students. Lessons and activities could be designed
with a single sex in mind (p. 11). As Principal John Fox states, the single sex environment enables you

What Is The Character Of Matilda Summary
Matilda is the story of an unwanted daughter who turns out to be something of a prodigy. Mr
Wormwood, Matildas father, is a dodgy second hand car salesman who rather foolishly sells old
broken cars to the Russian Mafia, Mrs Wormwood has a penchant for Latin American dancing and
dresses in garish costumes. The Wormwoods dislike their daughter Matilda intensely. They do not
understand her interest in books and encourage her to be like her older brother and fall comatose in
front of the telly . And Mr Wormwood even goes so far as to refer to Matilda as boy even though she
repeatedly corrects him. When Matilda heads off to school she surprises her teacher Miss Honey with
her mathematical skills and intelligence. But she falls foul of the child hating headmistress, the former
hammer thrower Miss Trunchbull. On the occasion I saw the show ten year old Emma Moore took the
lead as Matilda. Ms Moore is an enormously talented young actor with a charming singing voice to
match. She combines in the role intelligent confidence with a certain intellectual aloofness she also
achieved a lovely mixture of solemnity and mischief as the heroine who discovers that to beat the
wicked adults you sometimes have to be a little bit naughty , and she gets maximum value from the
songs too. A moment from Ms Moore that stands out the most for me is when she is talking in sync
with the male acrobat it is a intricate and sad piece of dialect but she performed it beautifully, speaking

The Soul Stays the Same in Plato
I think, Socrates, he said, that on this line of argument any man, even the dullest, would agree that the
soul is altogether more like that which always exists in the same state rather than like that which does
not (Plato, Phaedo 79e)
In this paper I will argue that the soul is not necessarily unchanging and eternal, as many of Plato s
arguments would suggest otherwise. The main reasons in support of this claim are that there are
questionable conclusions that Plato had reached that challenge the validity of his theory on immortal
souls. The Phaedo is one of Plato s greatest dialogues addressing the essence of the afterlife through a
discussion between Socrates and his students. Plato s main argument within the Phaedo is that there is

I mean such things as good and evil, just and unjust and there are innumerable other opposites which
are generated out of opposites. And I want to show that this holds universally of all opposites; I mean
to say, for example, that anything which becomes greater must become greater after being less. (Plato,
70d) In the dialogue Socrates established that everything is generated from its opposite so must have
an opposite. However, it is valid to question this by interpreting the opposite argument. If to say
everything has an opposite, would the opposite of existence be non existence? Existence is created
from non existence and non existence from existence. If this is true, than would not the existence of a
soul suggest that at some point the soul did not exist? Thus, it may be that the soul had a previous
existence but it does not definitively suggest that the soul is immortal and has no end. This is
somewhat related to Cebes argument that that soul may have existed through many bodies but may
eventually pass on. Plato fails to further explain the cycle of the soul. Socrates does not give detail on
when the cycle of the soul begins or how it may have started. Furthermore, if one relies on the
opposites argument for support of the immortal theory then one could consider that is there was a
beginning to the cycle of the soul than there would be some sort of end.
The Theory of Recollection also has some gaps in its logic

Compare And Contrast O Brother Where Art Thou And The Odyssey
Comparing and Contrasting
Ancient Literature and Modern movies can portray the same messages. Both relate to human
condition, but oftentimes the form reflects the age in which it is written. The movie O Brother, Where
Art Thou? (2000) uses a modern setting (1930s Mississippi) to relate to Homer s epic The Odyssey
(800 BCE). The epic The Odyssey by Homer and The movie O Brother Where Art Thou by The Coen
Brothers both tell the story of a protagonist that takes a long journey home to his wife. Both face many
obstacles along the way. In the movie, Sheriff Cooley is compared to Poseidon, the Blind old man is

By going with a real estate agent to sell your vacant home, the process will go a lot more smoothly
when compared to doing it by yourself, especially if you need to sell it within a short period of time.
They will help you and tell you what to do when it comes to preparing the home, like referring you to
a plumber or an electrician to have them come in and do a walk through to ensure everything is in

They will also give you advice when it comes to whether or not you should stage the home, or just
leave it empty of furniture, if you currently do not have any in there. Your real estate agent will also
guide you through the selling price, meeting with potential buyers, going over the negotiation process,
and finalizing the sale. However, if you would like them to handle the meeting with buyers,
negotiations, and closing the deal, you can sit out of these parts completely.

In the Catholic Church, the pope was in charge of Catholics, and the patriarchs (who functioned as

Antonio Stradivari s Influence On Future Generations Of...
Antonio Stradivari is quite often referred to as the greatest violin and stringed instrument maker to
ever live. Much of this credit is given to Stradivari because people simply know his name. Countless
violinists have expressed over the years the great frequency that people always ask them if they own a
Stradivari instrument or not. The reality is, although Antonio Stradivari was certainly a master at his
work, he was not the only one to create stringed instruments and certainly was not the first to do so.
People remember Stradivari because of the quality of the instruments that he made. Much of our basis
for stringed instruments to date has been, however, influenced by Antonio Stradivari. The basis for
Stradivari s influence on future generations of musicians and instrument makers was shaped by events
that happened before Stradivari was born, the perfectionist way he established his workshop, his
death, and the physics and name of his instruments.
Many factors helped to create modern string instruments as Stradivari knew them. First, the viol
created a strong basis for the modern violin. The viol was a Renaissance instrument that was bowed
just like the modern violin, but was fretted and softer than the violin. The viol was a favorable
instrument to learn because they were suitable for both courtly and religious music as they had a good,
unique sound and were very portable. These qualities were all passed onto the violin and to other
stringed instruments.

Comparing Novel and Film Version of Snow Falling on Cedars
It is no easy task to create a work through writing or film that has an impact on society. In writing, one
must discuss and analyze a relevant topic that will have an impact on the readers. One must also
present stunning sensory images through words in order to create a complete understanding for the

In the novel, David Guterson spent significant amounts of time exploring the way language can be

novel, combining both and portraying them thickly with literary devices. One of the most predominant
literary devices in the novel was the use of imagery. The prevalent image of the story is the snow as it
fell upon the cedars that populated San Piedro Island. Guterson invoked this image on page after page
throughout the novel, making it apparent that the snow veiling the cedar forests could be a metaphor
for the way prejudices veil honesty and truth in human behavior. The fact that the island was stricken

Sociocultural Theory in Early Childhood Development Essay
Sociocultural is defined as relating to, or involving a combination of social (relating to human society)

2010) You might ask why we are defining these words. It gives a better understanding of Vygotsky
beliefs that children seek out adults for interaction, beginning at birth, and that development occurs
through these interactions. (Morrison, 2009 sec 14.6) I agree that his theory is the best process for

Lev Vygotsky concept is showing or helping children with a task. They are taught everything through
social interaction no matter what it is. They are taught by example, by getting help with the task and
are expected to be able to complete it by themselves. With this concept of learning every child is able
to learn and evolve into completing activities independently and progressively from what they have
learned. It is important that the environment for the child be set with ideas and task that will allow
them too mentally, educationally and physically develop with or without adult and peer assistant.
Children are taught to mimic things like sounds and action; by mimicking this will help teachers
understand how a child learns and what they know. It is important to know what each child understand
and what they can progress on from previous teachings; by having them explain what they are doing.
Intersubjectivity is another concept of Lev Vegotsky individuals come to a task, problem, or

Morality is of greater importance to Antigone than her life, and ironically enough, in the conclusion of Antigone she is sentenced to her death for her transgressions against the law. The absolute location of Illinois is 40.0000 degrees N, 89.0000 degrees W. This state is where I was born, and I lived there for 9 years in my hometown of Minooka. My parents drive me to and from my destination. And when it was a school day I usually took the bus to school that stopped in my neighborhood. I find Illinois appealing because I like the cold and the woodland areas. The Central Plaines covers 90% of Illinois. It is composed of rolling plains created by glaciers from the ice age. Fertile soil makes up these plains, which allows agriculture. The Central Plains is divided into 3 sections: the Great Lakes Plains, the Driftless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Greeks and Persians battled for control of a narrow pass located at Thermopylae. This pass served as the most direct route into mainland Greece and allowed freedom of maneuver to the Persians. The Persians received a critical piece of human intelligence that allowed them to defeat the Greeks at the pass. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the battle and determine an alternate outcome based on the use of that intelligence. The Battle of Thermopylae Definition of the Battle The Battle of Thermopylae took place in 5th century BC in Northern Greece. The primary adversaries were the Persians and the Greeks. The Persian army, led by Xerxes I, far outnumbered the Greek forces. Despite this, the Greeks were able to maintain control of the pass for three days. The Settings of the Battle Strategic and operational overview. The battle of Thermopylae was one of many battles fought by the Persians in the quest to expand their empire, and the second in their quest to rule Greece. The Greeks fought at the battle of Thermopylae to maintain rule of their own land and resist submission to the Persians. In 491 BC, King Darius of Persia sent messengers to demand the Greeks submit to Persian rule. The Greeks refused and incited the first battle in the war between Persia and Greece. This essay will then explore the case for austerity, and why the government decided to implement it. Since 2010, inequality has gone down and employment has gone up. The crux of this essay will focus on the way in which austerity has been implemented and the adverse consequences for those at the bottom of society. • 8. Character Analysis Of Arthur Gould s Merchant Of Venice By analyzing one of the sources, the quote from Merchant of Venice, the detectives piece together the correlation between the pound of flesh on the scale next to the victim and the reference to flesh in the quote. Unfortunately, no fingerprints were found at the scene either implying that the murderer was meticulous and careful or that he somehow removed his fingerprints, which makes it difficult for the detectives to easily identify him. After reviewing the evidence and sources, Mills recalls that the picture of Eli Gould s wife had her eyes circled in Mr. Gould s blood. From this evidence, they deducted that the wife, although not physically at the crime scene, has knowledge that could somehow help the case. After taking a second glance at the crime scene photos, she declares that a specific piece of artwork has been rehung upside down, indicating to the detectives that it was at the behest of the murderer. Behind the artwork, Somerset finds fingerprints, which is odd given that this is the first crime scene where fingerprints have been found. The crime scene investigator, after using a black light on the wall, discovers the words help me in the form of multiple fingerprints. • 9. British Immigration After 1945 Immigration became a significant part of society in the post war period, it redefined the public s perception regarding culture and attitudes in society. Despite this, it is worth noting that immigration was not a new phenomenon in 1945. Britain had welcomed refugees in the past, notably the Irish who became one of the largest groups throughout the 20th century. Many Europeans also sought refuge in Britain, for example German refugees who fled to Britain in 1930 ; Peter Fryer notes on the existing black community in Britain since the 16th century. However, the level of immigration after 1945 was enough to redefine British culture and created an exclusive national identity by where Britishness is now recognised through the colour of your skin. Race as a concept has also transformed, with culture being a major element in British society. Politics has also had a major influence, with the introduction of immigration laws bringing equality among Britain s citizens, although this could highlight the opinions of the public with the need for legislation to be introduced. The economy thrived with immigration, noting on the Windrush which allowed the empty gaps in employment to be filled. However, despite the progress that has been made due to immigration, the reaction of the people wasn t always as positive, subsequently leading to racial tensions and a lack of respect among the people for immigration. The California High Speed Rail Authority has received cautions from the state Senate Transportation and Housing Committee regarding the availability of matching funds for High Speed Rail construction. Most importantly the advisor of the California High Speed Rail Authority, Lehman Brothers has described the risks that are capable of restricting private investment in the project. If you take fresh dairy products and diarrhoea or get stomach upsets like bloating, pain, or cramps, regurgitation, flatulence, or gas, borborygmi rumbling and gurgling in the stomach, nausea sometimes accompanied by vomiting, you could most likely be a victim. • 19. Imperialization Of Greek Civilization Very few civilizations have had as profound an influence on the world as those of ancient Greece. The Greeks laid the foundations for fields varying from philosophy to political theory to war tactics. However, this influence was not just due to their intelligence or success, but their widespread presence in the Mediterranean. Greek culture was spread throughout their known world in two distinct manners, the foundation of apoikia in the Archaic Age (8th century to 500 B.C. ) and imperialists by poleis, primarily Athens of the Classical Age (490 323 B.C ). Though the culture of a mother city (mētropolis) may have spread through two very different manners of colonization. The word is not used in the literal sense, but rather hereafter used to mean spreading of culture , as the former can hardly be described using the contemporary definition of colonization and the latter was through Athenian empire building. These developments had a significant impact on ancient Greece and our modern perception thereof. Like most of the ancient world, we can best analyze these methods of colonialism through extant artifacts. I will analyze an inscription of the foundation oath of Cyrene, which recounts the decision and manner in which the island of Thera sent its citizens to the form a new polis, and the fragments of the Lapis Primus, a marble monolith that documented tributes to Athens when the city was at the peak of its imperial age, evidencing the magnitude of their power and influence in the Greek region. The Cyrene inscription is a short oath from the 4th century B.C. that describes, from three centuries prior, the Theran rationale behind forming Cyrene, the manner in which they undertook this expedition, and their perception of the newly formed city. The inscription claims that Apollo spontaneously ordered the Therans to send a group of people to Libya in order to form a colony, with their citizen Battos as the king. The Theran assembly decided to send one son from each household, who was in the prime of life, 4 along with any free man who desired to leave, to colonize Cyrene. With on going concerns about student success in school, any changes in the classroom that could increase student achievement should be considered. Recognizing the learning differences between boys and girls, one of the changes that could be instituted is single gender classrooms. Review of the Literature When it comes to the classroom, there are several differences between girls and boys. There are physical differences in the way their brains work, differences in the room temperature that is best for boys and girls, and differences in how girls and boys respond to various tones of speech (Sax, 2006). While girls prefer soft spoken teachers, Sax (2006) notes that boys prefer to be spoken to loudly and in short, direct sentences with clear instructions (p. 195). According to Sax (2006), the ideal ambient temperature for boys is about 69 degrees and about 75 degrees for girls (p. 193 194). Further differences involve how boys and girls learn. McNeil states that boys may learn better under pressure and when allowed to move around...while girls may perform better in group situations and with a lot of encouragement (McNeil, 2008). Because of these many differences, it would stand to reason that boys and girls would benefit from being in separate classrooms. According to Hughes (2007), the teacher would be able to concentrate on the learning styles of each sex and use the styles to bring out the academic best in each students. Lessons and activities could be designed with a single sex in mind (p. 11). • 31. What Is The Character Of Matilda Summary Matilda is the story of an unwanted daughter who turns out to be something of a prodigy. Mr Wormwood, Matildas father, is a dodgy second hand car salesman who rather foolishly sells old broken cars to the Russian Mafia, Mrs Wormwood has a penchant for Latin American dancing and dresses in garish costumes. The Wormwoods dislike their daughter Matilda intensely. They do not understand her interest in books and encourage her to be like her older brother and fall comatose in front of the telly . And Mr Wormwood even goes so far as to refer to Matilda as boy even though she repeatedly corrects him. When Matilda heads off to school she surprises her teacher Miss Honey with her mathematical skills and intelligence. But she falls foul of the child hating headmistress, the former hammer thrower Miss Trunchbull. On the occasion I saw the show ten year old Emma Moore took the lead as Matilda. Ms Moore is an enormously talented young actor with a charming singing voice to match. She combines in the role intelligent confidence with a certain intellectual aloofness she also achieved a lovely mixture of solemnity and mischief as the heroine who discovers that to beat the wicked adults you sometimes have to be a little bit naughty , and she gets maximum value from the songs too. A moment from Ms Moore that stands out the most for me is when she is talking in sync with the male acrobat it is a intricate and sad piece of dialect but she performed it beautifully, speaking in perfect ... • 32. The Soul Stays the Same in Plato I think, Socrates, he said, that on this line of argument any man, even the dullest, would agree that the soul is altogether more like that which always exists in the same state rather than like that which does not (Plato, Phaedo 79e) In this paper I will argue that the soul is not necessarily unchanging and eternal, as many of Plato s arguments would suggest otherwise. The main reasons in support of this claim are that there are questionable conclusions that Plato had reached that challenge the validity of his theory on immortal souls. The Phaedo is one of Plato s greatest dialogues addressing the essence of the afterlife through a discussion between Socrates and his students. Plato s main argument within the Phaedo is that there is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I mean such things as good and evil, just and unjust and there are innumerable other opposites which are generated out of opposites. And I want to show that this holds universally of all opposites; I mean to say, for example, that anything which becomes greater must become greater after being less. (Plato, 70d) In the dialogue Socrates established that everything is generated from its opposite so must have an opposite. However, it is valid to question this by interpreting the opposite argument. If to say everything has an opposite, would the opposite of existence be non existence? Existence is created from non existence and non existence from existence. If this is true, than would not the existence of a soul suggest that at some point the soul did not exist? Thus, it may be that the soul had a previous existence but it does not definitively suggest that the soul is immortal and has no end. This is somewhat related to Cebes argument that that soul may have existed through many bodies but may eventually pass on. Plato fails to further explain the cycle of the soul. Socrates does not give detail on when the cycle of the soul begins or how it may have started. Furthermore, if one relies on the opposites argument for support of the immortal theory then one could consider that is there was a beginning to the cycle of the soul than there would be some sort of end. • 37. Antonio Stradivari s Influence On Future Generations Of... Antonio Stradivari is quite often referred to as the greatest violin and stringed instrument maker to ever live. Much of this credit is given to Stradivari because people simply know his name. Countless violinists have expressed over the years the great frequency that people always ask them if they own a Stradivari instrument or not. The reality is, although Antonio Stradivari was certainly a master at his work, he was not the only one to create stringed instruments and certainly was not the first to do so. People remember Stradivari because of the quality of the instruments that he made. Much of our basis for stringed instruments to date has been, however, influenced by Antonio Stradivari. The basis for Stradivari s influence on future generations of musicians and instrument makers was shaped by events that happened before Stradivari was born, the perfectionist way he established his workshop, his death, and the physics and name of his instruments. Many factors helped to create modern string instruments as Stradivari knew them. First, the viol created a strong basis for the modern violin. The viol was a Renaissance instrument that was bowed just like the modern violin, but was fretted and softer than the violin. The viol was a favorable instrument to learn because they were suitable for both courtly and religious music as they had a good, unique sound and were very portable. These qualities were all passed onto the violin and to other stringed instruments. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In delving deeper into the issues that deal with Kabuo s trial, the effects of war, and the romance between young Ishmael and Hatsue, Snow Falling on Cedars explores human emotion and behavior with astonishing accuracy. In the novel, David Guterson spent significant amounts of time exploring the way language can be used to convey a story line. Guterson went back and forth with scenes from past and present in the novel, combining both and portraying them thickly with literary devices. One of the most predominant literary devices in the novel was the use of imagery. The prevalent image of the story is the snow as it fell upon the cedars that populated San Piedro Island. Guterson invoked this image on page after page throughout the novel, making it apparent that the snow veiling the cedar forests could be a metaphor for the way prejudices veil honesty and truth in human behavior.
