History Pentathlon
The History of the pentathlon
The history of the pentathlon stems from the complete physical training of the Greeks. The pentathlete
was the product of training in five events, unlike those athletes who were trained in specialized areas.
It began as an athletic competition to determine the best all around athlete. The pentathlon was
introduced into the Olympic Games around 708 B.C. Each pentathlete was superior in strength and
activity, which was the ideal physical beauty. The ideal pentathlete should be tall, well built, long legs,
flexible hips, and preferably with long hands and fingers.
In the ancient pentathlon, not only were women excluded from participating in the events, but they
were also not allowed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The military adopted this sport as a part of final examinations at a number military academies.
The afternoon of the second day was devoted to the pentathlon. All events were held in the Stadium,
with the probable exception of wrestling. From late in the 6th century B.C., all contestants were naked
and barefoot as they competed. The number of entrants was small and it was not uncommon for some
to drop out while others were eliminated in contest. Victory was not calculated by points. If anyone
was first in three events, he was proclaimed the winner. If this did not occur, the field was slowly
reduced until the wrestling event, where the only competitors were those who had placed where in the
earlier events and therefore had a chance to win.
In the modern day Olympics, this pentathlon is open only to men. There are pentathlons open for
women at the world level, but not in the Olympics. There are many other pentathlons besides this one,
such as the track and field pentathlon.
Ancient Events
The Jumping Event
The jump, or halma, was an event in the ancient pentathlon, that could be called a long jump. It was
regarded as a very strenuous exercise and as the most typical event of the pentathlon. This event was
derived from warfare practices, because the terrain in Greece was made of streams and ditches. The
athletes used halteres, or jumping weights. The

The Use Of Satire In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
The definition of chivalry may differ from person to person. It can be explained from a woman s point
of view, a citizen s point of view, or a specific generation s point of view. Though the meaning of
chivalry can be slightly altered to fit contrasting situations today, it has specific roots reaching back to
the 1100s AD. That century was the birthplace of some of the morals we uphold today. Unfortunately,
chivalry and everything it stands for is slowly leaking out of our society decade by decade. However,
some people are accepting this evolution as a revolution of a new and better lifestyle.
Everyone must agree that chivalry is not what it used to be. If a person needs evidence to contrive a
stance on whether or not chivalry is apparent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, it and the Bible were the only books common people of England had access to in their homes
during this time, making The Canterbury Tales was the sole form of entertainment. The author,
Geoffrey Chaucer, wrote this text evoking several literary techniques. The most apparent of these are
satire and situational irony. As defined by Webster, satire is the use of humor, exaggeration, or ridicule
to expose and criticize people s stupidity or vices . Irony is defined as the expression of one s meaning
by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect . In
the prologue, Chaucer characterizes each persona as much greater than his/her behavior suggests
filling the beginning of the story with loads of satire. However, the Knight in the storyline has the least
amount of sarcasm placed on him implying he was the most noble. The Knight was directly described
as follow[ing] chivalry . Chaucer also says, He was of sovereign value in all eyes, ... wise, ... modest
as a maid, ... [and] a perfect gentle knight (Geoffrey Chaucer 30, 31). Chaucer s lack of literary
techniques associated with the Knight displays the character s his integrity and obedience of the

Misogyny In Professional Sports
According to Ray Rice Is an Outlier: Most Domestic Abuse Suspects Play On, Brett Myers, a pitcher
for Philadelphia, was charged with assaulting his wife on a Boston street in 2006 after witnesses said
he struck her in the face and pulled her hair (Crouse). These issues of domestic abuse are becoming
more common. This is just one example of misogyny in professional sports. While some argue that
misogyny in the professional sports arena is not a serious issue, there have been several instances of
physical assault of players girlfriends and wives, there is an over sexualization and harassment of
women in the industry, and there are large differences between male and female pay. These issues can
be improved by enforcing harsher punishments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These problems have solutions but the athletes and staff need to push towards to fixing them, harsher
punishments for offenders, need to promote women s sport equally to men, highlight successful
women athletes, bring awareness to discrimination stop negative tweets, articles, etc, and equal pay or
at least equal the pay more. There is no justifying domestic violence. Kareem Abdul Jabbar said in the
article, We Need to Stamp Out Misogyny in Sports , First, we need to address why they don t want to
watch. This goes back to cultural biases. If we don t value girls sports in middle school and high
school, then we don t grow up to value them as professional athletes. And by value, I mean make
athletic opportunities available, pay coaches equally, and promote female sports with the same vigor
as we do male sports. (Kareem Abdul Jabbar) , if in the male mind that women sports are just as
challenging and important as men s then the publicity problem would not exist. Kareem Abdul Jabaar
made a valid point when he said, Many will argue that the pay difference is the result of free market
supply and demand. More people want to see men play professional basketball than want to see
women play, so the players are paid accordingly. You can t argue economics. There is truth to this. You
can t force people to attend a sporting event if they don t want to (Kareem Abdul Jabbar) , but there is
a way to change this: give women more hype, promote the games better, and show off highlights to
catch the audience

Jerks Is An Original Dark Comedy
HYPNIC JERKS is an original dark comedy/horror script that features a very likable protagonist with
a very intriguing sleep disorder. The idea of hypnic jerks is very refreshing as a flaw and it s a disorder
not often talked about. It s nice to see it in the script. The tone combines dark comedy with horror
elements. The script explores themes about life choices and destiny. The script offers a couple of nice
twists.
The highlight is the main character of Ray. He s a charming, yet troubled man, but one can t help but
like him and his dog, Bonham. Equally likable and intriguing is Ambrosia.
As much as one enjoys the characters, the script would benefit from more development in the areas of
structure and plot.
The main concern about the presentation is the lack of a well identifiable goal for Ray. The plotline isn
t entirely clear. Ray transforms himself into a vampire, which appears to be motivated by the idea of
the Vampire Festival, but that doesn t feel like a strong enough motivation.
In addition, the link between Ray transforming into a vampire and his sleep disorder isn t entirely well
connected. He s trying to write, but this too, unfortunately never feels like Ray s true, actionable goal.
Now, if Ray were trying to write about vampires and felt he needed to live his life like a vampire to
help him write to make the world more believable, this would connect his behavior to his objective.
In addition, there s a subplot about women being stalked and then

feared the supposed power and influence I held. The one friend I had was shipped off to the Games,
and then again to the Quell. Al looks at her in surprise. You re friends with Katniss? Madge just nods,
not wanting to appear boastful. Huh, Al says, tilting his head as he studies her. I was kind of surprised

Drug Culture In The Other Wes Moore
In the 1960s, drug culture was popularized through music and mass media, in our current society we
still find this relevant. Although we are more knowledgeable about drugs and alcohol, an estimated
208 million people internationally consume illegal drugs. The question is why do we conform to a
society that is dependent on such substances? Perhaps drug culture is still present due to the references
we witness on a daily basis. Witnessing this has resulted in drugs being a constant norm in society, the
recently published novel, The Other Wes Moore; addresses drug culture. This novel actively
demonstrates the choices we make in our everyday life, resulting in consequences that ultimately
make or break our futures.

Differences And Similarities Between Stanford Prison...
There are many similarities between the behavior of the wardens in Stanford Prison Experiment and
the behavior of the soldiers at the prison in Abu Ghraib. I think the first and most obvious comparison
would be the blatant misuse and abuse of power. In both instances the figures in authority were aware
of their ability to make demands that their subordinates had to comply with, and they took full
advantage of it.
We see this expressed in emotional abuse that the prisoners had to endure. In both cases we forced to
perform demeaning tasks for no apparent reason. There were a number instances where the prisoners
were forced to be nude and were taunted. In the Stanford Prison Experiment the inmates were teased
about their genitals while in Abu

Influence Of Deep Focus Films
Technical and Aesthetic influences upon Deep Focus
Deep focus filming has its roots of conception seemingly at different times in the film industry
depending upon those who argue that certain films that engaged in the use of this type of filming. It
wasn t though until the collaboration of director Orson Wells and DOP Gregg Toland in the film
Citizen Kane 1941 that deep focus cinematography was brought to public attention and given
notability by various publications and brought an unusual acknowledgement of the cinematographer
within the film industry at the time. Aesthetically deep focus required a transition from the normally
soft focus filming to that of a very sharp and crisp image. The object of deep focus was to try to obtain

It was good experience trying to make something with a narrative with so little shots. The second
production we made was called The Car , For this I learned more so about angels of shots and looking
into the future of the edit thinking what would flow best and what would make the most sense. The
third production was called the message, For this one I was on sound, the narrative was a quite simple
one but it was harder than it sounded, it was one friend on a bike outside calling his friend and asking
him to come and meet him on the bike. The sound side of things was more difficult than usual as I had
to adjust from inside and outside surroundings, there was a phone call in it also which was hard to
pick up the ringing but we figured it out and turned out really well. The fourth production was
probably the most simple as I was the subject on screen. It was based on a event that happened in my
life and my group thought it would be a good idea for people to fully understand what happened. We
prepared a bunch of questions to ask me and practised how we wanted it to go, I held a microphone on

My Biological Name Is Dang Thanh Tam
My biological name is Dang Thanh Tam. I was born in Da Nang Vietnam in 1972 and do not know
whom my biological Mother is or if she had survived the Vietnam War. My biological father, an
African American, and might have served in the United States Army or the United States Marines.
Due to the extent of the war, it is highly likely he did not survive the war as well. Much of the
Vietnam War is something hard for me to understand. Growing up as a child, young adult, and as an
adult, this is a very sensitive topic. Adopted and raised in Vermont and the state is a mostly white,

Today, many Vietnam Vets will not speak about their horrific memories from the Vietnam War and the
war still haunts them thirty years later. Was this a senseless war?
Many people today would say the United States, once again, stuck their nose into a war when it should
not have. Is this just another record of accomplishment for the United States or the history behind
wars or the history of wars repeating themself? Why does the United States government approve of
another ruler or president of another country but 20 30 years later, they either are creating a coop or
creating a war to over throw the ruler of that country?
Just like Vietnam, many refugees would not be in this country if there were no wars. In a similar way
to Vietnam, there has been Lebanon 1982 1984, Grenada 1983, Panama 1989, Gulf War 1991,
Somalia 1993, Kosovo 1999, and now the Global War on Terror 2001 and all the wars in between and
including the ever present and real danger the War Against the Islamic State (ISIS) 2014? Is war
simply about power and money?
Although, I am hesitant about the intentions of the United States government especially when it comes
to issues on war, I am grateful for the United States military and proud to be a War Baby because I
would not be alive today without the Vietnam War. I am grateful for the opportunities I have received
throughout my life, even with a topic that is highly controversial and many questions remain

Pro Choice And Pro Life
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe that women
should get to decide what she would do with her body. The definition of abortion is; The termination
of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable
of normal growth . Abortion is one of the most controversial topics today. Although there are two sides
of the debate pro choice and pro life, arguments are mainly centered around the Roe v. Wade decision,
women s rights and state restrictive laws. Women faced many difficulties before Roe V. Wade case.
After the case the court made abortions available to women in the United States. Some consider
abortions immoral, which is why abortion is a heavy topic. People believe in misconceptions that are
based off of skewed facts (Abortion ProCon). They believe it is a problem that must be stopped but
stopping one problem will cause bigger problems such as deaths from illegal abortion, women and
children dying from starvation. Making abortions illegal will not stop anything, women might go back
to getting unsafe and illegal abortion resulting in many deaths. Pro choice believers support the right
to privacy and the idea women should have the choice to do what she pleases with her own body. For
example; a woman is raped by a man and becomes pregnant with his child. She decides she doesn t
want to keep the baby; she has an abortion because mental affect her if she has to look at the baby of

Photosynthesis Essay
Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is the most important part of the lively hood of humans and animals.
Without photosynthesis we would not be able to receive energy. We should be more appreciate of
plants, without them we would not survive. This paper will explain the basic components require for
photosynthesis, the role of chlorophyll, how energy is transferred, and photosystems I and II and the
most precious product results of photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis is a reproductive system that occurs in plants. The main components required for
photosynthesizing are sunlight, energy, water and mineral from soil, and carbon dioxide from the air.

One could say that it is the house where photosynthesize occur. The chlorophyll never changes from
its original form nor is combined when photosynthesis occurs.
Plants absorb energy from the sunlight whether on land or in the water. The energy is transferred to
humans and some animals that eat plants. Some animals are not able to eat plants so they eat other
animals who has energy stored up in them. Humans also receive a source of energy from animals that
we eat. What is quite amazing is that maggots receive energy from animals that have been dead for a
long period of time.
Photosynthesis has a two stage performance before plants produce the two products they are known to
produce. These stages are Photosystem I and II. Photosystem II is dependant on light reactions for
energy which causes the electrons to be react and be transferred to Photosystem II. The electrons are
transported through the Photosystem II electron transport system, however some energy is used to
drive ATP synthesis. Meanwhile, light is being absorbed by the Photosystem I, which causes the
electrons to react. This process sends the electrons to the Photosystem I transport system where some
energy is released as electrons travel through the electron transport system and is captured as NADPH.
When this process is completed oxygen is released from the plant and glucose has been

Aristotle s Theory Of Falling
My thesis is twofold: Aristotle s empirical arguments supporting the view that the earth is a sphere are
not convincing ; however, his hybrid argument combining a priori and empirical claims based on his
theory of falling succeeds in displacing Pre Socratic Cosmology and empirically grounding the
creation cosmology of Plato s Timaeus.
Aristotle inherited a tradition of cosmologies espoused by the Presocratics beginning with Thales, The
Earth floats on water, which is in some way the source of all things (Kirk B13) . The tradition
continues with Anaximenes, The earth is flat and rides on air (B13) and reaches a zenith with
Parmenides, ...there is a furthest limit, it is perfected, like the bulk of a ball well rounded on every
side, equally balanced in every direction from the center (Fr. 8 32 49). These three quotes identify two
themes that Aristotle would face while developing his cosmogony: how does the earth maintain its
place in the universe and what is its shape.
Aristotle also labored under the imposing shadow of his teacher Plato who developed his cosmology
in the Timaeus, ...he should fashion the world as a single whole... And he gave it a shape appropriate
to the kind of thing it was... Hence he gave it a round shape, the form of a sphere... (Timaeus 33a b).
Plato identifies the correct shape of the earth but he does not argue for this conclusion. Aristotle will
have to ground this idea in empirical science not myth.
The first step for Aristotle in On the Heavens is

Labor Vs. Capital During The Late 1800s
The ensuing conflict, between labor vs. capital, during the late 1800s initiated a struggle of power in
the workforce between the rich industrialists (or corporate leaders) and the middle class/lower class
workers. The Capitalists had intervened with the protests orchestrated by the workers, ensuring that
the power remains with them. The strategies of the industrialists and the unique ways of protesting
from the workers, contributes to spur a vigorous argument between the employers and their
employees. The workers tried their best to ameliorate their working conditions by forming numerous
unions, trying to fix currency (gold to paper) to economically help themselves, refusing to go to work,
resorting to violence and non violence, etc. However, the Corporate leaders kept an upper hand and
dissolved the workers ambitions by hiring scabs, creating a strong relationship with the military
(Pullman strike), controlling and fixing policies at work, hiring immigrants for cheap labor, etc.
Throughout the late 1800s, the corporate leaders have been able to successfully prevent workers who
had resorted to: forming unions, protests (ex. Pullman strike and Homestead strike), violence (ex.
Haymarket Sq. Riot), etc., from achieving a radical solution to the workers issues with the
management by using several different strategies including but not limited to: hiring scabs/immigrants
in the Homestead strike, using government support in the Pullman strike and keeping the power on
their side

How To Write A Rhetorical Analysis By Edward O Wilson
The two passages by Edward O. Wilson from the book The Future of Life revolve around the issue of
environmentalism. Each passage utilizes satire to show the views of the opposing side. Wilson s use of
satire illustrates the unproductive nature of the discussions between the two sides. In the first passage,
The People First Critic Stereotypes the Environmentalists, the environmentalists are portrayed
negatively by the people first critics. Wilson uses diction and hyperbole to prove the point of the
people first critics. Diction plays a large part in the structure of the passage. Wilson uses words such as
environmental wackos and extremists to describe the environmentalists. This diction is aimed to
discourage readers from siding with the environmentalists. Hyperbole is utilized at the end of the
passage through an example of environmentalism. Wilson states, Some Bennington College student 20

Along with diction, the environmentalist also appeals to pathos. Diction is utilized through vocabulary
such as sagebrush rebels, worst bunch of hypocrites, and anti environmentalists. The diction portrayed
in this text is tied into the satire used throughout the text. The appeal to pathos comes when Wilson
states, In America the rightwingers have made the word conservative a mockery. What exactly are
they trying to conserve? Their own selfish interests, for sure, not the natural environment. The
environmentalist wants to show that they fight for a stronger cause with less resources to use. The use
of each rhetorical strategy strengthens the satire Wilson uses in the discussions by these two

Everywhere in this world there are debates on many things. Logic is often employed in order to
understand and come to an agreement on these debated topics. One such topic, which is arguably the
greatest topic of debate occurring in modern day, is the existence of God. Sure, many people believe
in some sort of higher being, but how many of them try and use logic and rational thought to prove the
existence of God. Many probably, however we will only look at one such person. Rene Descartes
attempts to use his own logic to come up with the conclusion that a perfect being does exist and that
being is in itself God in his book Meditations on First Philosophy. We must first look at the
background of Descartes thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only true thing that cannot be doubted is that he himself doubts and thus exists (at the least as a
thinking being), hence his Cogito ergo sum . Through this rational, cogito ergo sum meaning, I think
therefore I am, and furthermore, I am, therefore I exist , Descartes rationalize his own existence. Thus
his existence is that of an innate nature, however, Descartes also uses the idea of God as an innate idea
as well. Is this possible, can he have an innate idea of an external being?
Descartes begins his argument, of the existence of God, with the only thing he knows to be true; that
through doubting, he must exist. By knowing he doubts he therefore does not know everything. This
makes him imperfect. However, to know that he is an imperfect being he must therefore have an idea
of what is perfection. And by having that idea, because he is finite and cannot come up with such an
idea himself, a perfect being must exist God. Knowing that he has an idea of perfection, Descartes
continues to prove God s existence by assuming everything must have a cause. This is known as the
Principal of Sufficient Reason. Descartes views God as an innate idea, as is that of his own existence.
The problem with thinking that God is an innate idea is that it does not include the ideas which others
have of God. One would assume that if God were an innate idea, one that was planted in the mind,
then all ideas of God would be the same. An instance where God is very different

Woman in Combat Essay
The idea of women in combat is not unusual anymore. They should be able to hold combat positions
beacause although physical strength matters, the military still needs the intelligence that women can
bring. Also, banning women from the combat hurts their military careers. Although women account
for only ten percent of the enlisted personnel (Time, 8/21/95/ Pg. 31), they are still a major part in the
armed forces. Their performance recently has generated support from Congress and the public for
enhancing the role of females in the military.
During the Persian Gulf War, women were sent to the Middle East to fly helicopters, service combat
jets, refuel tankers, and load laser guided bombs. Their performance has led the world to realize that ...

In spite of their record as able combat personnel, there are laws and policies that restrict women in the
United States Military from serving in positions that require them to engage in direct combat. Women
in the Air Force and Navy are barred from aircraft and vessels that have a chance to be exposed to
combat. The official, established policies of the Army and Marine Corps exclude women from combat
(Snyder, pg. 75 76). These policies prohibit women, on the basis of gender only, from over twelve
percent of the skill positions and thirty nine percent of the total positions offered by the Department of
Defense. Such policies excluding women from combat need to be repealed by Congress.
The Fourteenth Amendment s quot;Equal Protection Clause quot; insures every citizen quot;the equal
protection of the laws. quot; Although the clause is not applicable to Federal government, the Supreme
Court said the Due Process Clause in the Fifth Amendment prohibits the federal government from
making unreasonable classifications. Therefore the set laws and policies that exclude women from
combat not only violate the Fifth Amendment, but also deny women their fundamental right to engage
and excel in their chosen occupation. There have been many court cases involving women in combat
over the years, although there has never been a case directly challenging the constitutionality

Wuthering Heights Ambiguity
A variety of narrative devices can be utilized by an author to enhance a story. One such device that
uses ambiguity to create powerful effects is the supernatural, which is [divided] into three categories
[...one of them being the uncanny,] in which [a] rational explanation of the supernatural phenomena is
possible (Lodge 212). In order to make a rational explanation of a supernatural event more believable,
typically a classic rhetoric of the uncanny will use first person narration and discourse in a
documentary form to make the story seem predictable, and therefore more believable (Lodge 214).
Emily Brontë s Wuthering Heights uses the uncanny to create a double interpretation of the ghost
scene in chapter three where the reader can accept either a rational or supernatural explanation to the
events that occurred. Firstly, a supernatural explanation of the events can be supported due to the
narration of the story and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, when Lockwood does encounter Catherine s ghost, the reader is inclined to believe in his
account of the events more so than if he were seeking a life of excitement and adventure. Also, the
Christian beliefs of the characters during this time period led them to believe that the spirit did leave
the body at death to go to heaven or hell, or to remain stuck on earth. This is shown by several
characters, including Zillah who wanted to get another proof that [Wuthering Heights] was haunted
and Heathcliff who [burst...] into an uncontrollable passion of tears and called for Catherine s spirit to
come back to him (Brontë 27 29). The characters belief in the existence of ghosts helps to validate
Lockwood s encounter with one. Also, the fact that the spirit presents itself as Catherine Linton is
significant as well, for Lockwood had read Earnshaw

The Development And Testing Of An Intermediate Concept...
Ability of Children to
Identify Bad Choices and Justifications
Kent S. Michael
The University of Alabama
Introduction Stephen Thoma, W. Pitt Derryberry, and H. Michael Crowson published an article (2013)
outlining the development and testing of an intermediate concept measure (ICM) of moral reasoning
on an adolescent population, and one of the unexpected findings was the difficulty of research
participants to accurately identify bad choices and justifications (Thoma et al., 2013). It is important to
note that an analogous pattern was found in a previous study utilizing the ICM with young adults in
their last year of dental school (Bebeau Thoma, 1999). To the author s knowledge, a similar study has
not been conducted on a younger segment of the population. The purpose of this proposal is to assess
whether children aged 9 11 also struggle when identifying bad choices and justifications.
Literature Review
Moral Reasoning A brief overview of the history of moral psychology in the Kohlbergian tradition is
necessary to understand the significance and need for the current proposal. Jean Piaget presented his
construct of moral reasoning in his theory of development, and he found there were two stages of
moral reasoning heterenomous and autonomous. The former is associated with Piaget s concrete
operational stage as moral reasoning is dependent upon the relational context of the child and
authority figures (parents, God, etc.) and is inductive by nature. The latter is

Alternative Energy is the Solution to the Fossil Fuel Dilemma
Alternative Energy is the Solution to the Fossil Fuel Dilemma
If the United States continues to employ fossil fuels for energy, the nation will ultimately become
more dependent upon fuel imports from the troublesome nations of the Middle East, and we will
continue to damage our precious environment. Since the United States relies so heavily on fuel from
the Middle East, the U.S. is subject to the will of those quarrelsome nations in order to maintain our
fuel reserve. A shortage of oil can happen at any time and would cause an energy crisis that would
hinder the United States. Another reason for us to substitute fossil fuels with alternative energy
sources is that fossil fuels are hazardous to the environment. In order to minimize ... Show more

The price of oil went from $2.50 a barrel to $30.00 a barrel in six years (2). This price change caused
us to plunge into an energy crisis. Fogel also says that many experts believe the oil crisis will
inevitably repeat itself if the U.S. does not curb its high demands for imported oil (2). This means that
if we do not use some other form of energy, then the U.S. will fall into another energy crisis.
Alternative energy is crucial to the preservation of a habital environment. According to Christine A.
Erwin, doctors say that fifty thousand American deaths per year are directly connected to airborne
particulate matter. About one third of this pollution comes from power plants (1). Therefore, if we
were to produce power without producing the pollutants, then we would cut the airborne particulates
by one third, thus reducing American deaths. Solar energy is one answer to producing power without
pollution. This energy is inexhaustible and available for use anywhere. Fogel says that if everyone
could make full use of the sun s light and heat, we would have about twenty thousand times as much
energy as the entire world uses now (73). We can never use up solar energy because it is enormous and
limitless. According to Erwin, solar energy is already being used everywhere in many different
applications. People are using solar energy to heat pools, houses, and hot water tanks and also to

Comparing Two Creation Stories
In the book of Genesis, we are introduced to everything. From the creation stories to the sagas in
between Genesis is an opening to the old testament and an opening to the book of exodus. This essay
will contrast each creation story and describe each stories interest, explain how Genesis 12: 1 3 links
the stories of 2: 4b 11 with the ancestral narratives in 12 50 and connect the sagas of Abraham/Sarah,
Isaac/ Rebecca and Jacob/ Racheal. The first creation story is found in Genesis 1 2:4 and it explains
how God created the world from a void of darkness in six days of work. On day one God made the
heavens. On day two God made the sky. On day three God made land and sea. On day four God

In the second creation story Gods interest was to find man a partner stating It is not good that the man
should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner (Genesis 2:18). God attempted to bring every
animal in creation to the man in hopes that they would fit as a good partner but they did not. The
LORD than decided to make a creature for man to partner with stating then he took one of his ribs and
closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a
woman (Genesis 2:21 22) Thus making man a fitting partner. The calling of Abraham in 12:1 3 is
shown as a bridge to link 2:4b 11 and the ancestral narrative of 12 50 because it explains the human
problem and the divine solution. In Genesis 2:4b 11 God noticed that as mankind began to reproduce
they became more and more wicked because of their selfishness and arrogance (Human Problem).
God decided to wipe them out and start fresh stating Now the Earth was corrupt in God s sight and the
earth was filled with violence . Before God ended flesh he saved Noah and his family because of their
holiness by allowing them to aboard an ark so that they could multiply the Earth with people of
holiness. When Noah s family was told to be fruitful and multiply, Abraham was born by Noah s

Network Virtualization And The Virtual Network Essay
Nick Dispenza Research Paper Professor Lee Overview Network Virtualization Network virtualization
is a technology, which enables combining computer network resources into a single platform
appearing as a single network. In this form of virtualization, all hardware and software in the virtual
network appear as a single collection of resource. The goal of network virtualization is to provide
systems and users with efficient, controlled, and secure sharing of the networking resources. The
product of network virtualization is the virtual network. Virtual networks are classified into two broad
types, external and internal. External virtual networks consist of several local networks that are
administered by software as a single entity. The building blocks of classic external virtual networks
are switch hardware and virtual local area network (VLAN) software technology. Examples of
external virtual networks include large corporate networks and data centers. An internal virtual
network consists of one system using virtual machines or zones whose network interfaces are
configured over at least one physical NIC. Those network interfaces are called virtual network
interface cards or virtual NICs (VNICs). These containers can communicate with each other as though
they were on the same local network, effectively becoming a virtual network on a single host. How is
network virtualization similar to server virtualization? Well, for one thing they are very similar
conceptually. On a

Deborah Tannen There Is No Unmarked Woman
There is something subtle about attitudes toward women, something that many people act in
accordance to but are only subconsciously aware of. It is the constant judgment that women face, and
it is also something Deborah Tannen noticed while sitting in an ordinary meeting one day. During that
meeting, she found herself noticing only the females of the room, not the men. Tannen then realized
that it was because The men s styles were unmarked (Tannen 389). While there are standard hairstyles
and clothing for men, there are none for women. Everything that a woman wears is a reflection of who
she is. In her piece titled There Is No Unmarked Woman, she writes about her experience and

According to Tannen, there is nothing a woman can resort to if she does not want to be judged. That is,
no woman is unmarked . For example, she states that There is no woman s hair style that can be called
standard, that says nothing about her. The range of women s hair styles is staggering, but a woman
whose hair has no particular style is perceived as not caring about how she looks... (390). If a woman
were to opt for a plain hairstyle, it would still give a message. In writing about this, Tannen comes to a
startling conclusion. She finds that, even today, women have less

The Carnivalesque Role of the Fool in Twelfth Night and...
Twelfth Night and The Servant of Two Masters both relate to this course s theme of the carnivalesque.
Both plays share the commonality of having a clown, or a fool; in Twelfth Night it is Feste or the Fool,
and in The Servant of Two Masters it is Truffaldino. Both characters play the fool in contrasting ways
to express similar yet different forms of the carnivalesque. During carnival, laughter is prominent;
people are laughing together, they are laughing at each other, and they are being laughed at. The
laughter of carnival is both malicious and happy and everyone is included in it. Feste and Truffaldino
show the different aspects of carnival laughter through their portrayals of the fool. Feste plays the role

Truffaldino is too immersed in the action of the play to even notice the laughter of others. Because he
is so wrapped up in what is going on, he isn t able to stop and notice that everyone is laughing at him.
This is clearly shown in the dinner scene. Truffaldino is so busy trying to serve both masters that he
misses the other waiters making fun of him and he misses how foolish he looks running back and forth
from Beatrice s room to Florindo s room stuffing food in his mouth in between (Goldoni 129 134).
Feste and Truffaldino both take part in trickery in their respective plays. Their motives behind doing
the tricks show the different ways that each character plays the fool. Feste participates in the scheme
against Malvolio by attempting to drive him insane by dressing up as Sir Topas and speaking
nonsense. In response to Malvolio complaining that it is dark in the room, Feste says Why, it hath bay
windows transparent as barricadoes, and the clerestories toward the south north are as lustrous as
ebony. And yet complainest thou of obstruction? (Shakespeare 4.2.34 36) Feste tells Malvolio that the
room has two small windows that are as clear to see out of as if looking out of stone and that the
windows facing south north are as clear as ebony. It makes no sense. Feste contributes to this prank
out of revenge. Malvolio had wronged him in the past: I was one, sir, in this interlude, one Sir

Narcissistic Personality Disorder Paper
Narcissism
Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their
own importance, a deep need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others. (Mayo Clinic, 2014)
Like other personality disorders, narcissists have traits that cause them to feel and behave in socially
distressing ways, limiting their ability to function in important areas of life, such as school, work, and
relationships. What may not be apparent to the outside eye is that there is a very fragile and friable self
esteem that is very thin skinned. Those with this disorder think very highly of themselves and have a
hard time seeing anyone else s views, because they believe their way is the best way. They have self
centered fantasies that are high and wide of actual reality. Receiving criticism for them, even in the
slightest, can be so detrimental. You may never see the extreme sensitivity to the criticism because it is
often kept so quiet and hidden from others.
It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish a true narcissistic person apart from a person who is highly
confident. They may look similar, although a narcissist is far more in true depth with themselves and
sees others as inferior. The disorder makes them feel so superior and highly of themselves that they
have the potential to put themselves in danger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On average, more men are affected by the disorder than women. Being raised in a home with severe
criticism at an early age can put someone at risk for this disorder. There is no known cause for
narcissism other than being exposed to the disorder or being heavily criticized at a young age.
Fortunately, there is hope for those who have narcissistic personality disorder. With therapy, the
thought process can be changed and they can regain normal thoughts. The earlier the disorder is
diagnosed and therapy is started, the better the outcome will likely

Watergate Of The Watergate Scandal
Watergate Scandal The Watergate Scandal happened almost 43 years ago; the event will never be
forgotten. The Watergate scandal defined, perhaps for the first time, that a president of the United
States could be portrayed as untrustworthy. Richard Nixon ran for a second term in 1972, in which he
won by a huge margin. The Democratic Party had their headquarters at the high end Watergate hotel.
The break in happened on June 17th, 1972, in which a security guard noticed the tape on the door
lock. Five men were found in the office and were arrested for burglary. It seemed like a mission to spy
on the Democratic Party since some of Nixon s assistants were involved in the case.

which eventually transformed me into who I am today. When my parents were in India, they grew up

Immortals of Greek mythology
Greek Mythology:
Immortals
The Greeks created images of their deities for many purposes. A temple would house the statue of a
god or goddess, or multiple deities, and might be decorated with relief scenes depicting myths. Divine
images were common on coins. Drinking cups and other vessels were painted with scenes from Greek
myths.

Hades more common for the underworld as a place. The Romans translated Plouton as Dis Pater ( the

The first part where colic is predisposed is in the small intestine, the majority of the small intestine
hangs from a membrane called the mesentery. This membrane is attached to one point in the middle of

abdominal pain and colic.
Another site that is predisposed to colic is the junction of the small and large intestine. This junction is
where the food passes from the foregut to the hindgut and food can easily impact at this joint. Another
part where colic can start is in the large intestine. The large intestine is only connected at two points, at

In our country railways have become prominent. Our system consists of solution for reservation,
planning and managing railway transportation. It includes the idea of seat selection, indirect route
finding to provide convenience to the users while planning trips. Apart from this we deal to provide
client side facilities using algorithms such as SHA 512 for security purpose. It may also provide
avoidance over simultaneous registration, authentication and blocking of about two or more client

The Pros And Cons Of Executive Compensationation
According to Garen (1994) executive compensation is a classical solution of the principal agent
problem in which the separation of ownership and control is the main issue. He explains in his paper
that in every business there are different parties involved with different interests and goals, and the
theory describes the relationship between two parties, principal and agent, where the principal passes
the task to the agent. In this case the CEO is the agent and the principal is the shareholder of a firm.
The attitude of the CEO in a firm is different than that of the shareholders; therefore shareholders
provide equity compensation and other awards to align the interests. According to Jensen and
Meckling (1976) the reduction of the agency conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several types of equity compensations with variety of impacts on the agents. The stock
compensations and stock options compensations are the most prominent ones. The stock
compensations are awards provided to the agents in stocks of the firms, in this way the shareholders
reward agents by awarding them a part of the equity of the firm. Balsam and Miharjo (2007) have the
belief that stock compensation provides direct link between executive compensation and shareholders
wealth and therefore the interests of a firm s CEO s with those of its shareholders. Therefore, this type
of executive compensation is very effective in aligning the principal and agent s interest. However,
stock compensation has negative side effects, such as an increase in risk aversion of CEO s. By
providing more stocks to a CEO, the risk attitude of CEO in a firm becomes different than that of the
shareholders: whereas CEO s will be loyal with most of their capital to their corporations trying to
avoid risk while shareholders aim is to maximize their gains, and prefer more risk taking operations.
Therefore, it is very important to provide the right executive compensation to motivate agent (CEO s
or executives) to act in the best interest of the principal (shareholders, debtholders) to mitigate the
agency problem created by the provision of the stock

Malaria Is A Parasite That Has Been Impacting The World...
Malaria is a parasite that has been impacting the world for the past couple of centuries. The illness
associated with malaria gives intense fevers, chills, terrible headaches, muscle pains and can be deadly
if not treated properly. Although overall malaria cases have decreased from 262 million in 2000 to 214
million in 2015, it is still an issue to be concerned about today.1 There have been developments of a
vaccine against this parasite, but the parasite has adapted to the vaccine and developed a resistance to
it, thus rendering it ineffective. The p. falciparum and p. vivax strains of malaria is what is causing
problems as these resistant strains have popped up in much of Asia and Africa and a couple of
countries in South America.1 This can potentially be a problem for the military and more specifically
the Air Force as multiple countries where the Air Force deploys are infected with these resistant
strains of malaria. It can be seen through the background and history of the fight against this parasite
that the chemistry behind an antimalarial vaccine is important to the Air Force.
The illness associated with the malaria parasite was first thought to be a result of poisonous mists
drifting from marshes hence its name meaning bad air in Italian. Of course it was unbeknownst back
then that it was actually caused by the female anopheles mosquito which tends to live near still water
such as marshes.2 Although it was unknown what actually caused the symptoms of malaria,

Much Ado About Noting
Blindness is only a disability to those that are mentally eyeless. Shakespeare being a man of keen
mental sight, he has had the ability to portray mental blindness in several of his plays. Being one of
the best writers, he is actively able to capture the four elements of a well made play being peripetiea,
denouement, timely entrances and exits and incredibly gripping scene entrances and conclusions.
Having written 38 plays with two original plots, Shakespeare expresses his themes through passionate
romance, sorrow filled tragedy, inviting history and hilarious comedy. One of his most famous
comedies is the play called, Much Ado About Nothing. In this play the comedic aspects greatly
emphasize the important theme of self knowledge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

following through with this desire. Also, in matters not concerning directly to them they also
demonstrate self knowledge. When Hero is shammed at her own wedding, Beatrice and Benedict are
the only two who seem to believe that she has been wronged. Benedict even verbalizes this when he
states while talking with Beatrice, Surely I do believe your fair cousin is wronged. In continuation,
both characters are allowed to be made aware of Hero s false death along with knowing that Claudio s
second bride is Hero herself for they were a part of the conspiracy. These are examples of self
knowledge because they are able to perceive reality for what it truly is rather than at face value. In
contrast to Beatrice and Benedict, characters Claudio and Don Pedro do not possess self knowledge.
Because of this they are unable to see the things for what they are. By definition, vanity is excessive
pride in your own character or abilities. Due to Claudio and Don Pedro s vanity, they are unable to
acquire self knowledge. These men demonstrate their vanity in multiple ways. One way they do this is
by refusing to admit to having any flaws. They prove this when they accuse, judge, condemn and even
punish Hero, running her good name. The ironic part is that the crime in which she is accused of is a
falsity in which was set up to deceive Claudio and

Prejudice And Discrimination In The Military
Racial Prejudice
[T]he core of racism essentially includes a prejudiced sense of superiority...Individual racism occurs
when individuals discriminate against members of another racial group because they believe that their
own group is superior (Utsey, Ponterotto, Porter, 2008, p. 339). The chain is only as strong as its
weakest link in a military service. Racism, prejudice, and discrimination are kinks in the moral
integrity of the chain that have negative effects on employee morale and the service s reputation. In
2007, the United States Coast Guard s (USCG s) commitment to diversity and inclusion was tested
when personnel in connection with the USCG Academy cadets found hangman s nooses. The actions

All members of the staff should feel safe in their work environment. Discrimination in the workplace
may cause the victim to feel unsafe, so it is the manager s responsibility to help make them feel whole

requirement of immediate action also shows other staff members that leadership will not tolerate
further actions in the workplace. Also, it is an opportunity for the manager or higher leadership to
reiterate their position on zero tolerance of prejudicial behavior by any employee. Taking action and
sending the message soon after the incident may also put the minds of minority employees at ease

19th Century European Economic System
During the nineteenth century, Europe had a difficult time creating a stable economic system. Through
trial and error they created The Common Market, which lead to the creation of The European Atomic
Community and The European Coal and Steel Community. These three economic systems make up
The European Community. The European Community has given Europe one of the most thriving
economies to this day.1 The United States of Europe was the first of many attempts at a stable
economic system before the creation of The European Community.1 The next experimental economic
system was a Council of Europe. Ten delegates, representing the ten countries in Europe, met in
Strasbourg France in 1949 with the confidence that it would become a dominant ... Show more content

The only institutions that are permitted to perform the tasks entrusted to the European Community are
A European Parliament, a Council, a Commission, a Court of Justice and a Court of Auditors.1 In the
Parliament members took seats not by nation, but by party affiliation. They had limited legislative
authority but they supervised the European Commission and the budget. The Parliament also kept the
idea of unity alive. Unity was the main reason that all of these communities were formed in the first
place. The final decisions rested with the Council of Ministers representing each of the member
countries. Their decisions on very important matters had to be unanimous. Another important aspect
of the Community was the Court of Justice, it gave the whole Community a sense of federalism.1
Although the combination of the three communities to make a seemingly unstoppable larger
Community sounds perfect, Great Britain initially refrained from joining The Common Market. Great
Britain depended on low priced food imports, had economic ties to the Commonwealth and was
unable to accept and supranational authority. Eventually, Great Britain tried to join the European
Community after realizing how their economy was significantly lagging behind. Their request was
vetoed by President de Gaulle because of

The Environmental Issue Of Water Conservation
Water is essential for humanity s survival, and even though the world is largely covered by water, only
a small percentage is potable for human utilization. Approximately, on average, 120,000 gallons of
water is used annually for a single family household (Galbraith). This alarming number could be
reduced dramatically for the efforts of water conservation and lowering water bill prices for families
could subsequently save money that could be used for other expenses. Thus, conserving water would
prove beneficial and advantageous to not just in Texas, but to everyone else as well. Although
environmental policies have not been as popular with Congress and the state legislature, it is still an
important issue to consider since there are only a limited amount of resources for public use, such as
water. Both the federal and state governments have enacted policies towards the efforts of water
conservation that mainly affect cities and corporations and considered how it affects other organisms
in the environment. One current environmental issue between the U.S. federal and state governments
is concerning about the efforts of water conservation and other natural resources by passing several
laws that mainly affect both cities and companies that somewhat relate to preserving wildlife as well
for the ecosystem. The reasons initiating these legal changes are to conserve clean water for human
consumption and to preserve wildlife as well. Congress passed the Water Pollution Control Act

Creative And Practical Skills Essay
Introduction
According to the proposed theory of human intelligence and its development (Sternberg, 1999a), a
common set of processes underlies all aspects of intelligence. These processes are hypothesized to be
universal. These processes are applied to different kinds of tasks and situations depending on whether
a given problem requires practical skills and creative skills.
Practical skills used to implement, apply, or put into practice ideas in real world contexts. It involves
individuals applying their abilities to the kinds of daily problems they confront on the job or at home.
Practical intelligence is the application of the components of intelligence to experience to: adapt to,
(b) shape, and (c) select environments.
In contrast with practical skills, creative skills used to create, invent, discover, imagine, suppose, or
hypothesize. Tests of creative intelligence go beyond tests of analytical intelligence in measuring
performance on tasks that require individuals to deal with relatively novel situations. Sternberg has
shown that assessing a range of abilities beyond that assessed by conventional tests of intelligence
allows one to tap sources of individual differences measured little or not at all by these tests
(Sternberg, 1985). It is also true that people are either practically or creatively skilful or they have
these both skills innate with them. But in consideration to its value in day to day life, practical skill
can be considered more important than creative

A Study On The Initial Value Of The Rdi
The RDI is expressed in three forms: the initial value (α_k), normalized RDI (RDIn), and standardized
RDI (RDIst). The initial value (α_k) of RDI is presented in an aggregated form using a monthly
timestep and is usually calculated for i th year in a time basis of k of consecutive months using
following equation: α_(`k)^((i))=(∑_(j=1)^k▒P_ij )/(∑_(j=1)^k▒〖ETo〗_ij ),i=1,...,N and j=1,...,k
Where pij and EToij are precipitation and ETo of the j th month of the i th year and N is the total
number of years of the available data. The normalized RDI (RDIn) is estimated as follows: 〖RDI〗
_(n(k))^((i))=(α_k^((i)))/(α_k ) ̅ 1 In which α ̅_k is the arithmetic mean of α_k values. Tsakiris et al.
(2008) though analysis of various data from several location and different timescales shown that α_k
values follow satisfactorily both gamma and lognormal distributions however gamma distribution
shows the best fit in most timescales and locations. Therefore, the calculation of third form (RDIst)
performed by fitting the gamma probability density function to the given frequency distribution of α_k
. The following equations have been used to calculate the standardized RDI (RDIst). The probability
function of gamma distribution is defined as: g(x)=1/(β^γ Γ(γ)) x^(γ 1) e^( x/β), for x 0 Where γ 0 is a
shape factor, β 0 is a scale factor, and Γ(γ) is the gamma function. Parameters γ and β of the gamma
function are estimated or each time scale (k) and for each location. Maximum

Essay about Does Your Company Contribute to Gross...
How do you measure the happiness of a nation? One measure often used, Gross National Product,
examines the total financial value of all services and goods in a nation. As can attest to, however,
money doesn t always equal happiness. While the financial value of what s produced may rank
relatively high, if the money is concentrated in the hands of a relatively small amount of people, the
nation s overall happiness isn t that high. Additionally, other measures of population happiness are
often overlooked in gross national product metrics. A city may be bursting at the seams with money,
but mired in pollution, corruption, and noise. Citizens might make products that let them pay for
housing and food, but if medical care is unaffordable, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Promoting community contribution as a way to make clients happier is nothing new; law firms,
construction contractors, and cafes across the globe contribute to local causes. Sometimes it takes the
form of Adopt a Highway participation, or the sponsorship of a local free clinic s fundraising banquet.
This speaks to the concept of Enlightened Self Interest , in which these contributions encourage
potential customers to do business with the company, while actively helping the wider community.
Conversely, bad customer service experiences not only decrease community happiness, but they also
decrease a company s bottom line. People listen to stories of bad service, thirsting for juicy details,
and so not only will an upset customer consider leaving your company, but potential customers may
never do business with you. Outside of a potential short term financial benefit from denying your
customers request, the impact of having customers angry about their experience with customer service
will be negative on your company.
Thus, when developing your approach to customer complaints and concerns, think about how your
company is contributing to Gross National Happiness, not just Gross National Product. Taking a
broader perspective is great not only for your community, but for your business s long term health as

Their results showed that static analysis tools face the issue of finding many false positives/negatives
mainly because it is highly dependent on a previous set of rules or a vulnerability database that
specifies the nature of the vulnerability. Besides that, they also discussed that these tools are tied to a
specific technology/programming language, so there is no tool that can be applied to all type of
applications and accurately detects their weaknesses. Similarly, Kuperman et al
cite{kuperman2005detection} conducted a study about vulnerability prevention and mitigation
techniques for attacks that exploit the existence of buffer overflows in the code and found out that
there is no solution that can avoid all the consequences of a buffer overflow.
%Given these results, they proposed combining static analysis tools with dynamic testing to find
security holes. Their idea is to first test the program using static analysis tools and later using a
dynamic detection to confirm the existence of the weaknesses detected found in the static analysis.

The Standardization Of Samuel Johnson
Who is Samuel Johnson? He was an English writer and critic, and one of the most celebrated literary
figures of the 18th century. His best known work is his Dictionary of the English Language . The
dictionary was published on 15 April 1755. It was not the first such dictionary, but was certainly the
most important at that time. In Johnson s lifetime five further editions were published and a sixth
came out when he died (BBC, 2014). English language is a hybrid language that borrowed words from
many origins such as Latin, French and German. The English language is also used by many people.
Specialist started the process of English language standardization as early as the sixteenth century.

The authority always shifted to those who provided the great deal of material. Lexicographers realized
this fact and competed with grammarians in order to produce more comprehensive information. The
first monolingual English dictionary was, Robert Cawdrey s A Table Alphabetical (1640) . This
dictionary was not only a guide to correct spelling or appropriate vocabulary, but intended on a guide
to hand words which had been brought in from Latin and other languages (Beal, 2012). However, the
most important dictionary that played a great role in the stability of English language was Samuel
Johnson s Dictionaries of the English language. Thomas Sheridan commented on this dictionary in
(1762) that by producing this work, which was intended for fixing English language, Johnson must be
confided by all posterity on the founder, and this dictionary on the corner stone (Beal, 2012). Mitchell
argues that Johnson shared his contemporaries their worry for the future of English language that
might not be understood in the future if these changes continued this way. This is because the
vernacular had been growing and changing in unpredictable ways to the extent that sixteenth century
language contrasted significant with that of the eighteenth century (Mitchell, 2005). Other important
dictionaries that were produced during the eighteenth century were: dictionaries and William Pardon s
New General English Dictionary (1735), which cornered difficult

You Know That Child On The Playground
You know that child on the playground. The one with the really sweet personality, that gets along with
everyone? I was that child. When I was little, my mother would take me to work with her. She would
joke around that I was really everybody s child because I did not have stranger wariness. I was never
considered shy or timid. I was pretty confident with my abilities and never really cared what others
thought of me. However, throughout my life I began to focus more on the opinions of others rather
than my own. I became sculpting clay in the hands of my peers, my family, and above all my own
conscious mind.
My first alteration came when I was in sixth grade and came in the form of an 80 pound boy named,
Jacob Contos. One day our teacher, Mrs. Smith said The day isn t over until the fat lady sings. Jacob
then replied, Ollecka, start singing. My face turned pale white and I bolted out of the room. I had
never considered myself to be any different from anybody else until that day. Sure, I was bigger than
most people my age, but I never considered myself to be fat. That scene continued over and over in
my head for the rest of the day, months, and year of sixth grade. My cognitive thinking and
behaviorisms both were altered because of one small thing one of my peers said.
I began to think, why is this happening to me? Why do I have to be the one who struggles with weight
issues and why am I the one being bullied because of it. My mind turned to thoughts of that the world

A Journalist s Audience Essay
There are many different types of articles: newspaper articles, journal articles, editorial articles,
research articles. Each one of these articles target a different audience. The authors takes into account
who will be reading their article and how much knowledge he or she has on the topic being discussed.
The style of each of these articles depends on the audience. The comprehensibility of a newspaper
article will be much greater than a research journal article written by a scientist. The audience has a
large impact on the style, structure, word choice, credibility and understanding of different articles.
When comparing different articles, a reader must read the articles with an unbiased understanding.

though several Puritanś were angry with their God during this time, Bradstreet shows lengths of
thankfulness and compassion for her God through her midst of pain and struggle. Specifically, she
states . blest his Name that gave and took,ÅN showing her sense of graditude towards her God. She
understands that she will not be able to take any of these earthly possesions to heaven, and knows that

Taylor uses a fly to describe the people that were weak, and fell easily into Satan s web that would
bring them to death. He later compares the fly to a wasp, that frees itself from the net of sin by
fighting off the spider, showing strength and courage. He emphasizes these characters so that he can
encourage Puritans of this time to fight off the sins that trouble them, and God will protect them if
they are willing. By referring to Satan as the spider that spin[s] a web out of thyself, he is warning the
people to have courage, and go against the sins that so easily entangle, which is also said in the bible.
In the sermon, City Upon a Hill, the early 17th century minister John Winthrop preaches to the many

  • 2. History Pentathlon The History of the pentathlon The history of the pentathlon stems from the complete physical training of the Greeks. The pentathlete was the product of training in five events, unlike those athletes who were trained in specialized areas. It began as an athletic competition to determine the best all around athlete. The pentathlon was introduced into the Olympic Games around 708 B.C. Each pentathlete was superior in strength and activity, which was the ideal physical beauty. The ideal pentathlete should be tall, well built, long legs, flexible hips, and preferably with long hands and fingers. In the ancient pentathlon, not only were women excluded from participating in the events, but they were also not allowed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The military adopted this sport as a part of final examinations at a number military academies. The afternoon of the second day was devoted to the pentathlon. All events were held in the Stadium, with the probable exception of wrestling. From late in the 6th century B.C., all contestants were naked and barefoot as they competed. The number of entrants was small and it was not uncommon for some to drop out while others were eliminated in contest. Victory was not calculated by points. If anyone was first in three events, he was proclaimed the winner. If this did not occur, the field was slowly reduced until the wrestling event, where the only competitors were those who had placed where in the earlier events and therefore had a chance to win. In the modern day Olympics, this pentathlon is open only to men. There are pentathlons open for women at the world level, but not in the Olympics. There are many other pentathlons besides this one, such as the track and field pentathlon. Ancient Events The Jumping Event The jump, or halma, was an event in the ancient pentathlon, that could be called a long jump. It was regarded as a very strenuous exercise and as the most typical event of the pentathlon. This event was derived from warfare practices, because the terrain in Greece was made of streams and ditches. The athletes used halteres, or jumping weights. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Use Of Satire In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales The definition of chivalry may differ from person to person. It can be explained from a woman s point of view, a citizen s point of view, or a specific generation s point of view. Though the meaning of chivalry can be slightly altered to fit contrasting situations today, it has specific roots reaching back to the 1100s AD. That century was the birthplace of some of the morals we uphold today. Unfortunately, chivalry and everything it stands for is slowly leaking out of our society decade by decade. However, some people are accepting this evolution as a revolution of a new and better lifestyle. Everyone must agree that chivalry is not what it used to be. If a person needs evidence to contrive a stance on whether or not chivalry is apparent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, it and the Bible were the only books common people of England had access to in their homes during this time, making The Canterbury Tales was the sole form of entertainment. The author, Geoffrey Chaucer, wrote this text evoking several literary techniques. The most apparent of these are satire and situational irony. As defined by Webster, satire is the use of humor, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people s stupidity or vices . Irony is defined as the expression of one s meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect . In the prologue, Chaucer characterizes each persona as much greater than his/her behavior suggests filling the beginning of the story with loads of satire. However, the Knight in the storyline has the least amount of sarcasm placed on him implying he was the most noble. The Knight was directly described as follow[ing] chivalry . Chaucer also says, He was of sovereign value in all eyes, ... wise, ... modest as a maid, ... [and] a perfect gentle knight (Geoffrey Chaucer 30, 31). Misogyny In Professional Sports According to Ray Rice Is an Outlier: Most Domestic Abuse Suspects Play On, Brett Myers, a pitcher for Philadelphia, was charged with assaulting his wife on a Boston street in 2006 after witnesses said he struck her in the face and pulled her hair (Crouse). These issues of domestic abuse are becoming more common. This is just one example of misogyny in professional sports. While some argue that misogyny in the professional sports arena is not a serious issue, there have been several instances of physical assault of players girlfriends and wives, there is an over sexualization and harassment of women in the industry, and there are large differences between male and female pay. These issues can be improved by enforcing harsher punishments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These problems have solutions but the athletes and staff need to push towards to fixing them, harsher punishments for offenders, need to promote women s sport equally to men, highlight successful women athletes, bring awareness to discrimination stop negative tweets, articles, etc, and equal pay or at least equal the pay more. There is no justifying domestic violence. Kareem Abdul Jabbar said in the article, We Need to Stamp Out Misogyny in Sports , First, we need to address why they don t want to watch. This goes back to cultural biases. If we don t value girls sports in middle school and high school, then we don t grow up to value them as professional athletes. And by value, I mean make athletic opportunities available, pay coaches equally, and promote female sports with the same vigor as we do male sports. (Kareem Abdul Jabbar) , if in the male mind that women sports are just as challenging and important as men s then the publicity problem would not exist. Kareem Abdul Jabaar made a valid point when he said, Many will argue that the pay difference is the result of free market supply and demand. More people want to see men play professional basketball than want to see women play, so the players are paid accordingly. You can t argue economics. There is truth to this. You can t force people to attend a sporting event if they don t want to (Kareem Abdul Jabbar) , but there is a way to change this: give women more hype, promote the games better, and show off highlights to catch the audience ... • 5. Jerks Is An Original Dark Comedy HYPNIC JERKS is an original dark comedy/horror script that features a very likable protagonist with a very intriguing sleep disorder. The idea of hypnic jerks is very refreshing as a flaw and it s a disorder not often talked about. It s nice to see it in the script. The tone combines dark comedy with horror elements. The script explores themes about life choices and destiny. The script offers a couple of nice twists. The highlight is the main character of Ray. He s a charming, yet troubled man, but one can t help but like him and his dog, Bonham. Equally likable and intriguing is Ambrosia. As much as one enjoys the characters, the script would benefit from more development in the areas of structure and plot. The main concern about the presentation is the lack of a well identifiable goal for Ray. The plotline isn t entirely clear. Ray transforms himself into a vampire, which appears to be motivated by the idea of the Vampire Festival, but that doesn t feel like a strong enough motivation. In addition, the link between Ray transforming into a vampire and his sleep disorder isn t entirely well connected. He s trying to write, but this too, unfortunately never feels like Ray s true, actionable goal. Now, if Ray were trying to write about vampires and felt he needed to live his life like a vampire to help him write to make the world more believable, this would connect his behavior to his objective. In addition, there s a subplot about women being stalked and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many similarities between the behavior of the wardens in Stanford Prison Experiment and the behavior of the soldiers at the prison in Abu Ghraib. I think the first and most obvious comparison would be the blatant misuse and abuse of power. In both instances the figures in authority were aware of their ability to make demands that their subordinates had to comply with, and they took full advantage of it. We see this expressed in emotional abuse that the prisoners had to endure. In both cases we forced to perform demeaning tasks for no apparent reason. Is this just another record of accomplishment for the United States or the history behind wars or the history of wars repeating themself? Why does the United States government approve of another ruler or president of another country but 20 30 years later, they either are creating a coop or creating a war to over throw the ruler of that country? Just like Vietnam, many refugees would not be in this country if there were no wars. The definition of abortion is; The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth . Abortion is one of the most controversial topics today. Although there are two sides of the debate pro choice and pro life, arguments are mainly centered around the Roe v. Wade decision, women s rights and state restrictive laws. Women faced many difficulties before Roe V. Wade case. After the case the court made abortions available to women in the United States. Some consider abortions immoral, which is why abortion is a heavy topic. People believe in misconceptions that are based off of skewed facts (Abortion ProCon). They believe it is a problem that must be stopped but stopping one problem will cause bigger problems such as deaths from illegal abortion, women and children dying from starvation. Making abortions illegal will not stop anything, women might go back to getting unsafe and illegal abortion resulting in many deaths. Pro choice believers support the right to privacy and the idea women should have the choice to do what she pleases with her own body. The chlorophyll never changes from its original form nor is combined when photosynthesis occurs. Plants absorb energy from the sunlight whether on land or in the water. The energy is transferred to humans and some animals that eat plants. Some animals are not able to eat plants so they eat other animals who has energy stored up in them. Humans also receive a source of energy from animals that we eat. What is quite amazing is that maggots receive energy from animals that have been dead for a long period of time. Photosynthesis has a two stage performance before plants produce the two products they are known to produce. These stages are Photosystem I and II. Photosystem II is dependant on light reactions for energy which causes the electrons to be react and be transferred to Photosystem II. The electrons are transported through the Photosystem II electron transport system, however some energy is used to drive ATP synthesis. Meanwhile, light is being absorbed by the Photosystem I, which causes the electrons to react. • 14. Aristotle s Theory Of Falling My thesis is twofold: Aristotle s empirical arguments supporting the view that the earth is a sphere are not convincing ; however, his hybrid argument combining a priori and empirical claims based on his theory of falling succeeds in displacing Pre Socratic Cosmology and empirically grounding the creation cosmology of Plato s Timaeus. Aristotle inherited a tradition of cosmologies espoused by the Presocratics beginning with Thales, The Earth floats on water, which is in some way the source of all things (Kirk B13) . The tradition continues with Anaximenes, The earth is flat and rides on air (B13) and reaches a zenith with Parmenides, ...there is a furthest limit, it is perfected, like the bulk of a ball well rounded on every side, equally balanced in every direction from the center (Fr. 8 32 49). These three quotes identify two themes that Aristotle would face while developing his cosmogony: how does the earth maintain its place in the universe and what is its shape. Aristotle also labored under the imposing shadow of his teacher Plato who developed his cosmology in the Timaeus, ...he should fashion the world as a single whole... And he gave it a shape appropriate to the kind of thing it was... Hence he gave it a round shape, the form of a sphere... (Timaeus 33a b). Plato identifies the correct shape of the earth but he does not argue for this conclusion. Aristotle will have to ground this idea in empirical science not myth. Capital During The Late 1800s The ensuing conflict, between labor vs. capital, during the late 1800s initiated a struggle of power in the workforce between the rich industrialists (or corporate leaders) and the middle class/lower class workers. The Capitalists had intervened with the protests orchestrated by the workers, ensuring that the power remains with them. The strategies of the industrialists and the unique ways of protesting from the workers, contributes to spur a vigorous argument between the employers and their employees. The workers tried their best to ameliorate their working conditions by forming numerous unions, trying to fix currency (gold to paper) to economically help themselves, refusing to go to work, resorting to violence and non violence, etc. However, the Corporate leaders kept an upper hand and dissolved the workers ambitions by hiring scabs, creating a strong relationship with the military (Pullman strike), controlling and fixing policies at work, hiring immigrants for cheap labor, etc. Throughout the late 1800s, the corporate leaders have been able to successfully prevent workers who had resorted to: forming unions, protests (ex. Pullman strike and Homestead strike), violence (ex. Haymarket Sq. Riot), etc., from achieving a radical solution to the workers issues with the management by using several different strategies including but not limited to: hiring scabs/immigrants in the Homestead strike, using government support in the Pullman strike and keeping the power on their side ... • 19. How To Write A Rhetorical Analysis By Edward O Wilson The two passages by Edward O. Wilson from the book The Future of Life revolve around the issue of environmentalism. Each passage utilizes satire to show the views of the opposing side. Wilson s use of satire illustrates the unproductive nature of the discussions between the two sides. In the first passage, The People First Critic Stereotypes the Environmentalists, the environmentalists are portrayed negatively by the people first critics. Wilson uses diction and hyperbole to prove the point of the people first critics. Diction plays a large part in the structure of the passage. Wilson uses words such as environmental wackos and extremists to describe the environmentalists. This diction is aimed to discourage readers from siding with the environmentalists. Hyperbole is utilized at the end of the passage through an example of environmentalism. • 20. Descartes and God Essay Descartes and God Everywhere in this world there are debates on many things. Logic is often employed in order to understand and come to an agreement on these debated topics. One such topic, which is arguably the greatest topic of debate occurring in modern day, is the existence of God. Sure, many people believe in some sort of higher being, but how many of them try and use logic and rational thought to prove the existence of God. Many probably, however we will only look at one such person. Rene Descartes attempts to use his own logic to come up with the conclusion that a perfect being does exist and that being is in itself God in his book Meditations on First Philosophy. We must first look at the background of Descartes thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only true thing that cannot be doubted is that he himself doubts and thus exists (at the least as a thinking being), hence his Cogito ergo sum . Through this rational, cogito ergo sum meaning, I think therefore I am, and furthermore, I am, therefore I exist , Descartes rationalize his own existence. Thus his existence is that of an innate nature, however, Descartes also uses the idea of God as an innate idea as well. Is this possible, can he have an innate idea of an external being? Descartes begins his argument, of the existence of God, with the only thing he knows to be true; that through doubting, he must exist. By knowing he doubts he therefore does not know everything. This makes him imperfect. However, to know that he is an imperfect being he must therefore have an idea of what is perfection. And by having that idea, because he is finite and cannot come up with such an idea himself, a perfect being must exist God. Knowing that he has an idea of perfection, Descartes continues to prove God s existence by assuming everything must have a cause. This is known as the Principal of Sufficient Reason. Descartes views God as an innate idea, as is that of his own existence. The problem with thinking that God is an innate idea is that it does not include the ideas which others have of God. One would assume that if God were an innate idea, one that was planted in the mind, then all ideas of God would be the same. An instance where God is very different ... Their performance recently has generated support from Congress and the public for enhancing the role of females in the military. The official, established policies of the Army and Marine Corps exclude women from combat (Snyder, pg. 75 76). These policies prohibit women, on the basis of gender only, from over twelve percent of the skill positions and thirty nine percent of the total positions offered by the Department of Defense. Such policies excluding women from combat need to be repealed by Congress. One such device that uses ambiguity to create powerful effects is the supernatural, which is [divided] into three categories [...one of them being the uncanny,] in which [a] rational explanation of the supernatural phenomena is possible (Lodge 212). In order to make a rational explanation of a supernatural event more believable, typically a classic rhetoric of the uncanny will use first person narration and discourse in a documentary form to make the story seem predictable, and therefore more believable (Lodge 214). Michael Crowson published an article (2013) outlining the development and testing of an intermediate concept measure (ICM) of moral reasoning on an adolescent population, and one of the unexpected findings was the difficulty of research participants to accurately identify bad choices and justifications (Thoma et al., 2013). It is important to note that an analogous pattern was found in a previous study utilizing the ICM with young adults in their last year of dental school (Bebeau Thoma, 1999). To the author s knowledge, a similar study has not been conducted on a younger segment of the population. The purpose of this proposal is to assess whether children aged 9 11 also struggle when identifying bad choices and justifications. Jean Piaget presented his construct of moral reasoning in his theory of development, and he found there were two stages of moral reasoning heterenomous and autonomous. Alternative Energy is the Solution to the Fossil Fuel Dilemma Alternative Energy is the Solution to the Fossil Fuel Dilemma If the United States continues to employ fossil fuels for energy, the nation will ultimately become more dependent upon fuel imports from the troublesome nations of the Middle East, and we will continue to damage our precious environment. Since the United States relies so heavily on fuel from the Middle East, the U.S. is subject to the will of those quarrelsome nations in order to maintain our fuel reserve. This means that if we do not use some other form of energy, then the U.S. will fall into another energy crisis. Alternative energy is crucial to the preservation of a habital environment. Network Virtualization And The Virtual Network Essay Nick Dispenza Research Paper Professor Lee Overview Network Virtualization Network virtualization is a technology, which enables combining computer network resources into a single platform appearing as a single network. In this form of virtualization, all hardware and software in the virtual network appear as a single collection of resource. The goal of network virtualization is to provide systems and users with efficient, controlled, and secure sharing of the networking resources. The product of network virtualization is the virtual network. Virtual networks are classified into two broad types, external and internal. External virtual networks consist of several local networks that are administered by software as a single entity. The building blocks of classic external virtual networks are switch hardware and virtual local area network (VLAN) software technology. Examples of external virtual networks include large corporate networks and data centers. An internal virtual network consists of one system using virtual machines or zones whose network interfaces are configured over at least one physical NIC. Those network interfaces are called virtual network interface cards or virtual NICs (VNICs). One of the biggest problems with colic is identifying early on if it is going to be life threatening or if it is a mild form. It is very difficult to distinguish between the two. Colic has a wide array of signs and symptoms but the causes are not as well known, so it is important to know preventative measures one can do in order to avoid colic in their horse as well as have an understanding of the horses delicate digestive system. Horses were evolved to constantly be grazing on grass throughout the day. Today our horses are typically kept in stalls or paddock areas and fed two to three times a day. Another site that is predisposed to colic is the junction of the small and large intestine. This junction is where the food passes from the foregut to the hindgut and food can easily impact at this joint. Another part where colic can start is in the large intestine. • 36. The Pros And Cons Of Executive Compensationation According to Garen (1994) executive compensation is a classical solution of the principal agent problem in which the separation of ownership and control is the main issue. He explains in his paper that in every business there are different parties involved with different interests and goals, and the theory describes the relationship between two parties, principal and agent, where the principal passes the task to the agent. In this case the CEO is the agent and the principal is the shareholder of a firm. The attitude of the CEO in a firm is different than that of the shareholders; therefore shareholders provide equity compensation and other awards to align the interests. According to Jensen and Meckling (1976) the reduction of the agency conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are several types of equity compensations with variety of impacts on the agents. The stock compensations and stock options compensations are the most prominent ones. The stock compensations are awards provided to the agents in stocks of the firms, in this way the shareholders reward agents by awarding them a part of the equity of the firm. Balsam and Miharjo (2007) have the belief that stock compensation provides direct link between executive compensation and shareholders wealth and therefore the interests of a firm s CEO s with those of its shareholders. Therefore, this type of executive compensation is very effective in aligning the principal and agent s interest. However, stock compensation has negative side effects, such as an increase in risk aversion of CEO s. By providing more stocks to a CEO, the risk attitude of CEO in a firm becomes different than that of the shareholders: whereas CEO s will be loyal with most of their capital to their corporations trying to avoid risk while shareholders aim is to maximize their gains, and prefer more risk taking operations. Therefore, it is very important to provide the right executive compensation to motivate agent (CEO s or executives) to act in the best interest of the principal (shareholders, debtholders) to mitigate the agency problem created by the provision of the stock ... The illness associated with malaria gives intense fevers, chills, terrible headaches, muscle pains and can be deadly if not treated properly. Although overall malaria cases have decreased from 262 million in 2000 to 214 million in 2015, it is still an issue to be concerned about today.1 There have been developments of a vaccine against this parasite, but the parasite has adapted to the vaccine and developed a resistance to it, thus rendering it ineffective. The p. falciparum and p. vivax strains of malaria is what is causing problems as these resistant strains have popped up in much of Asia and Africa and a couple of countries in South America.1 This can potentially be a problem for the military and more specifically the Air Force as multiple countries where the Air Force deploys are infected with these resistant strains of malaria. It can be seen through the background and history of the fight against this parasite that the chemistry behind an antimalarial vaccine is important to the Air Force. The illness associated with the malaria parasite was first thought to be a result of poisonous mists drifting from marshes hence its name meaning bad air in Italian. Of course it was unbeknownst back then that it was actually caused by the female anopheles mosquito which tends to live near still water such as marshes.2 Although it was unknown what actually caused the symptoms of malaria, ... • 41. The Environmental Issue Of Water Conservation Water is essential for humanity s survival, and even though the world is largely covered by water, only a small percentage is potable for human utilization. Approximately, on average, 120,000 gallons of water is used annually for a single family household (Galbraith). This alarming number could be reduced dramatically for the efforts of water conservation and lowering water bill prices for families could subsequently save money that could be used for other expenses. Thus, conserving water would prove beneficial and advantageous to not just in Texas, but to everyone else as well. Although environmental policies have not been as popular with Congress and the state legislature, it is still an important issue to consider since there are only a limited amount of resources for public use, such as water. Both the federal and state governments have enacted policies towards the efforts of water conservation that mainly affect cities and corporations and considered how it affects other organisms in the environment. One current environmental issue between the U.S. federal and state governments is concerning about the efforts of water conservation and other natural resources by passing several laws that mainly affect both cities and companies that somewhat relate to preserving wildlife as well for the ecosystem. The reasons initiating these legal changes are to conserve clean water for human consumption and to preserve wildlife as well. Congress passed the Water Pollution Control Act ... • 42. Creative And Practical Skills Essay Introduction According to the proposed theory of human intelligence and its development (Sternberg, 1999a), a common set of processes underlies all aspects of intelligence. These processes are hypothesized to be universal. These processes are applied to different kinds of tasks and situations depending on whether a given problem requires practical skills and creative skills. Practical skills used to implement, apply, or put into practice ideas in real world contexts. It involves individuals applying their abilities to the kinds of daily problems they confront on the job or at home. Practical intelligence is the application of the components of intelligence to experience to: adapt to, (b) shape, and (c) select environments. In contrast with practical skills, creative skills used to create, invent, discover, imagine, suppose, or hypothesize. Tests of creative intelligence go beyond tests of analytical intelligence in measuring performance on tasks that require individuals to deal with relatively novel situations. Sternberg has shown that assessing a range of abilities beyond that assessed by conventional tests of intelligence allows one to tap sources of individual differences measured little or not at all by these tests (Sternberg, 1985). It is also true that people are either practically or creatively skilful or they have these both skills innate with them. The initial value (α_k) of RDI is presented in an aggregated form using a monthly timestep and is usually calculated for i th year in a time basis of k of consecutive months using following equation: α_(`k)^((i))=(∑_(j=1)^k▒P_ij )/(∑_(j=1)^k▒〖ETo〗_ij ),i=1,...,N and j=1,...,k Where pij and EToij are precipitation and ETo of the j th month of the i th year and N is the total number of years of the available data. The normalized RDI (RDIn) is estimated as follows: 〖RDI〗 _(n(k))^((i))=(α_k^((i)))/(α_k ) ̅ 1 In which α ̅_k is the arithmetic mean of α_k values. Tsakiris et al. (2008) though analysis of various data from several location and different timescales shown that α_k values follow satisfactorily both gamma and lognormal distributions however gamma distribution shows the best fit in most timescales and locations. Therefore, the calculation of third form (RDIst) performed by fitting the gamma probability density function to the given frequency distribution of α_k . The following equations have been used to calculate the standardized RDI (RDIst). The probability function of gamma distribution is defined as: g(x)=1/(β^γ Γ(γ)) x^(γ 1) e^( x/β), for x 0 Where γ 0 is a shape factor, β 0 is a scale factor, and Γ(γ) is the gamma function.
