Brooke Gladstone s The Influencing Machine
In, The Influencing Machine, author Brooke Gladstone explains that the changing media does not
change our brains if we do not let it. This goes against all the fears of technology thus far, essentially
making us humans the artificial intelligence. Take, for instance, a schizophrenic. When they do not
take their medicine dark and twisty thoughts are allowed to creep up inside their heads. Alot of times
they see and hear things that are not actually there. This makes them feel like somebody, or some
outside force is causing all of the problems. In actuality, it is themselves. Now, take something that is
a bit more relatable to people. Say you are walking down the street and see a registered sex offender.

They were afraid the words and symbols were too complex for the human mind and it would cause
their brains to become too overloaded with information. When the children grew up, they would
ultimately find themselves in the insane asylum. In 1613 Barnaby Rich spoke that books overcharged
the world to where the information from everyday would not be able to be comprehended. Then, the
alphabet was feared that it would cause forgetfulness. People would essentially trust the written words
more than they would orally and it would cause problems. Danny Crichton, in his article, Fear Not
The Robot, tells that this fear is typical. It is like a revolving door. Every few years the fears come
back. Typically they are caused by books and articles. Google s self driving cars have driven almost a
million miles. People are suggesting that their next invention will be self driving diesels. Then the fear
is that the response system will not be up to par and vehicle accidents will increase ten fold. Along
with that, jobs will be put in jeopardy. Taxi drivers will be slowly laid off, and truck drivers will be
plucked

Pros And Cons Of Robots
Robots are becoming more and more advanced. As employers implement more automation, it is likely
that many will lose their jobs to a robot. Robots have already been employed in many industries
successfully especially in manufacturing. This automation improves the productivity in manufacturing
and in effect, reduces the costs to make products. Manufacturing jobs now populated by people have
many Musculoskeletal disease risk factors. With the application of robots, workers will not have to put
themselves at risk for personal injury caused by MSD s. Research shows that repetitive work can
cause musculoskeletal diseases in humans, but fortunately, robots are starting to acquire the tedious,
manual labor jobs that enhance these diseases more; therefore, robots are seen as an ethical
improvement to job safety and wellness. Musculoskeletal diseases are the leading cause of disability
in the United States. MSD s are diseases that affect the muscles, bones, and any connecting tissue ,
and they cause chronic pains and mobility issues. In the workforce, there are MSD risk factors that
contribute to the onset or advancement of MSD s. They include heavy lifting, rapidly and or
repeatedly doing the same tasks, awkward positions, vibrations, bodily impacts, etc.[1]. There are
many occupations that put workers at risk for MSD s especially labor intensive jobs. The pain and
immobility that can be caused by MSD s lower the quality of life of occupants and cause reduced
productivity. When an

Disadvantages Of Conflict
Conflicts and arguments are part of our daily lives and we deal with them in our own ways. Usually
conflicts arise between two or more individuals, organizations or even nations and the scope of every
conflict is to find a solution to the disagreement that was created between the parties. Each
disagreement may have a different nature, even if it is personal, financial or political there must be a
solution.
The most common way to deal with conflict is to avoid it, some individuals leave the discussion, and
some get angry and upset, actually it may amaze you what people would do in order to avoid a
conflict. Denial is one of the most common issues when we talk about resolving a conflict. Through
denial people may postpone the conflict from one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There tension arises because of opposing forces that drive the person to make a decision rather than
another. This definition attempts to describe and define a type of conflict, the intrapersonal type of
conflict. This occurs typically due to how people are different from one another. We have varied
personalities which usually results to incompatible choices and opinions. Apparently, it is a natural
occurrence which can eventually help in personal growth or developing your relationships with others.
In addition, coming up with adjustments is necessary for managing this type of conflict. However,
when interpersonal conflict gets too destructive, calling in a mediator would help so as to have it

Professional Learning Communities
Introduction
Schools are constantly looking for ways in which to improve. Research has revealed several attributes
of a school that proves to lead towards student learning and higher achievement including strong
leadership, clear and shared mission, vision, values, and goals, collective inquiry, action oriented,
collaborative teams that work interdependently, a focus on student learning and results oriented. These
ideas are represented within a Professional Learning Community (PLC). To become a PLC, a staff
must make changes in their actions and work together focusing on student learning. PLC s have
evolved out of failed school reform measures. It attempts to make permanent changes to a school s
culture to affect change in student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Safe environments are built and there s a respect for diversity. Another highly important factor in
effective schools is a highly effective leader. Leadership is a key characteristic in a PLC also. The
principal acts as an instructional leader building relationships with the staff and developing high
moral. These characteristics are all evident in a PLC. When schools truly begin to align their practices
with a commitment to learning for all, the educators within them begin to function as a Professional
Learning Community (DuFour, DuFour Eaker, 2008, p. 21). The PLC is more of an re culturing
instead of a school reform. It is an ongoing process through which a staff works collaboratively to
share learning goals. In order to reach the goals set forth in laws such as NCLB, a school must change
it s culture to maintain an ongoing collaborative process to enhance everyone s effectiveness to
improve student behavior ( Nygard, 2010).
Four Essential Questions
The first role in building a successful learning community is to formulate a solid base of shared
mission, vision, values, and goals. These four are the building blocks of a solid foundation for
decision making for school improvement. Mission or purpose is the first block and focuses on the
question Why do we exist? The second block is vision or the direction the school is headed. It asks the
question What kind of school or district do we hope to become? A values block asks How

[...]After going downstairs, for breakfast, Leonda picks up the remote and clicks on the TV. She

Croteau and Hoynes use this hypothetical story about Leonda in order to demonstrate to what extent
our western societies are enmeshed and saturated by the media.
The word media derives from the Latin medium, which means middle: The communication media are
the different technological processes that facilitate communication between (and are in the middle of)
the sender of a message and the receiver of a message (7). Indeed, advertising is the key source of
revenue for television, newspaper, and more recently the Internet. As a consequence, an enormous
amount of messages sent from the sender to the receiver are contained in advertisings. Because

Amendment will be used in his favor. Separation of church and state is the understanding of the
function of the Establishment Clause. Pilgrims were able to escape England s strict religious laws by
coming to the Americas. Separation of church and state has negatively affected the United States by
causing conflicts during religious court cases, causing controversies over the amendment, and
removing religion from school. Reynolds versus the United States Court case polygamy is discussed.

Practicing High Frequency And Sight Words
Practicing high frequency and sight words are effective teaching strategies that can deepen and extend
student early literacy development. However, it is vital to understand that although many high
frequency words are also sight words, there is a difference. Sight words are typically words that
students recognize immediately (within three seconds) and can read without having to use decoding
skills. Ultimately, practicing such words would help students become confident and fluent readers as
they would begin recognizing words by sight. On the other hand, high frequency words are words that
are commonly found in the English language. First, I would begin introducing and teaching the words
to K 3 students only a few weeks after the school year

Recording The Oratorio Song Of The Forests
Prior to composing the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 in 1948, Shostakovich composed the film
music Michurin that was about the life of horticulturist Ivan Vladimirovich Michurin (1855 1935).
The film music encouraged Shostakovich to compose another work based on the same rural theme.
Below is his statement during the aired interview in 1955 that confirms it:
My work in cinematography has proven beneficial for my activity as a composer. Indeed, a number of
my compositions are a direct outcome of my work in the cinema. For instance, my work on the film
Michurin has prompted me to compose my oratorio the Song of the Forests.
In fact, the lines in song no. 5 Комсомольцы выходят вперед (Young Communists go forward!) of

Another recycled material is the melody that occurs in the movie between 31 45 and 32 04 on the
scene where Michurin and the dignitaries were raising their glasses in a toast to Michurin s much
expected success in developing a new horticultural technique for the benefit of Russian people. The
piano plays the melody as a background music in the scene. Part of the melody becomes an important
recurrent motive that gives a sense of unity to the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 (fig. 2). The
unavailability of the film music score forces the author to assume that the melody is written in the key
of C major as seen in fig. 2 below.
Both the short and the longer versions of the melody, which appear previously in film music Michurin
(fig. 2), appear in all songs of the oratorio and give a sense of unity. Borrowing the terminology
mentioned by Pauline Fairclough, the short version will be called motive x. Therefore, the full length
version will be called melody x. Motive x starts on the first scale degree and ascends until the fifth
scale degree with a sixth scale degree as a diatonic upper neighbor pitch.According to Fairclough,
motive x connects songs number 1, 6, and 7, and this proves that the Song of the Forests was
composed very carefully. In addition to Fairclough s statement, motive x actually occurs in other
songs as well generating a coherence in the oratorio. Below is several examples of the utilization of
motive x in each song.

The Criminal Code Is Responsible For Controlling Firearms
Canada, like Australia, saw a mass shooting in 1989 that acted as a catalyst for change in gun policy in
Canada. On December 6, 1989 a male, aged 25 went into the École Polytechnique de Montréal (Patel).
The male had a 223 caliber rifle in his possession (Patel). One that day there was 14 women who were
shot, and 14 who were injured (Patel). Marc Lépine, the offender, stated to the women as he was
killing them that he was doing this since they were feminists and he did not want them to become
engineers since they would be taking jobs from men (Patel). This shooting unlike any other that had
been seen in Canada s history. In Canada, the Firearms Act, and the Criminal Code are responsible for
controlling firearms (Library of Congress Canada 1). The Criminal Code is responsible for defining
the main categories of firearms, which include restricted, prohibited, and non restricted firearms
(Library of Congress Canada 1). The Firearms Act is responsible for regulating the possession,
transport, and storage of firearms (Library of Congress Canada 1). In Canada it is required that you

The licensing and registration are set forth and administered by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Walkerton Water System Case Study
The Walkerton water system was supplied by three groundwater wells: wells 5, 6, and 7.
Contamination into the drinking water supply was through Well 5. Well 5 was a shallow well, and all
of the water drawn from the well came from a very shallow area. This water was drawn from an area
of highly fractured bedrock. This fracturing, and the geological nature of the surrounding bedrock,
made it possible for surface bacteria to quickly enter into the fractured rock (O Connor, 2002, pp.166).
The water distribution system in Walkerton included 41.5 km of water mains as well as two
standpipes, which provided water storage and pressure equalization for the system. It is estimated that
in the Walkerton system, between 33 and 35 locations were dead ends. There is a greater risk of
bacterial contamination in dead ends, because water does not adequately circulate in them and may
become stagnant (O Connor, 2002, pp.57). The water system had a reserve capacity of 20 hours. ...

Sigmund Freud And Freud s Theory Of The Unconscious Mind...
A twenty one year old woman by the name of Anna O that was caring for her ailing father began to
experience severe debilitating physical and psychological symptoms. During this period, most
psychoses were labeled as hysteria. Anna O began to hallucinate, experience paralysis, and have an
extreme aversion to food and drink. She underwent treatment with Dr. Breuer (Oxford Journals,
2005). When Dr. Breuer treated Anna O for her hysteria and her mental and physical symptoms he
discovered that as she began to talk of hidden thought processes about her experiences during their
discussions, whether through hypnosis or while conscious, certain symptoms would disappear (Oxford
Journals, 2005). Dr. Breuer discussed Anna O s case with Sigmund Freud and Freud later perfected
this talking cure. Also known as sweeping the chimney or sweeping the mind. Sigmund Freud s theory
of the unconscious mind claimed that people experience hysteria or other reactions in response to
repressed experiences. The unconscious contains all those drives, urges, or instincts that are beyond
our awareness but that nevertheless motivate most of our words, feelings, and actions (Feist Feist,
2008). Freud and his theory are responsible for the birth of what is known today as psychoanalysis and
Freud is considered the founding father of psychoanalysis. In treating Anna O, Freud would examine

The Issue Of Equal Pay For Equal Work
The issue of equal pay for equal work performed by women; is a political hot button in the 2016
presidential campaign. So much so that the stump speeches, for both former secretary of state Hillary
Clinton, and senator, Bernie Sanders, always include this issue. Since the 1960s, congress and many
researchers have tested this theory. In order to affirm the validity of this message, we will perform a
five step hypothesis test. In the book, Statistical Techniques in Business Economics, authors D. Lind,
W. Marchal S. Wathen (2012), describe how to conduct this test of hypothesis. We seek to determine if
two sampled populations, females and males, have the same mean (arithmetic average) wages. The
process begins with only the raw data from a 2005 wages database. As a result, the authors further
explain: The method described does not require that we know the standard deviations of the
populations (2012). For that reason, we assume the sampled populations are equal, but, the standard
deviations are unknown. Then, we use the t test as the test statistic, with 30 degrees of freedom.

Not A Student Loan For College Essay
Abstract
The decision to attend college for most individuals yield promise of advancement in being able to
further one s learning, and assists with developing a marketable educational portfolio from an
institution of reputed academia. However, with the pursuit of obtaining a college degree from a
university, there are augmented concerns with student loans and repayment issues. In electing to

several organizations or subsidiaries, and for profit institutions cash in on unknowledgeable hopefuls
contributing to the student loan debt dilemma/crisis (or student debt). The college costs and financial
constraints for student borrowing, if ill prepared will substantially effect students in pre graduate or

repayment behavior which effects long term financial outlook. In examining the data on cumulative

Kilmann s conflict mode instrument. (Thomas, K. W., Kilmann, R. H. ,1974). There are five effective
approaches are discussed. Each approaches have its positive and negative effects. Also, there are many
problems that each expert should consider about themselves which can devote their effort to help

methods can finally bring a huge success to the whole project. Conflicts Research Conflicts and

Disadvantages Of Budgeting
Budgeting performance provides as a basis for judging actual results because the inefficiencies of past
performance can be eliminated or adjusted in the budget. Another reason is that future conditions
(such as changes in technology, products, personnel and competition) may differ from the past
conditions and this can be adequately factored in the budget.
Budgeting defines expectations thus ensuring the most suitable model for future performance. These
are financial plans for future which explains allocations for revenue. Along with estimating future
sales, budgets have limits for expenses, such as payroll, rent, utilities, supplies, advertising, insurance
and taxes.
Motivational considerations help reduce employee feelings of ill will, disrespect of the budget process,
and alienation from management. For example, participation in the budget process encourages
adherence to the budget, self pride, internalization of the budgeted numbers and loyalty to the
organization. It also signals that management is committed to supporting the budget in addition to
simply preparing the budget. Ways to use budgets to motivate employees include: 1. Communicate to
employees the importance of the budget. 2. Encourage employee participation in all aspects of the
budgeting process. 3. Emphasize that top management supports all aspects of the budgeting process. 4.
Allow reasonable amounts of flexibility for adjustments to the budget. 5. Use the comparison of actual
results to budgeted results

Different Types Of Economic Systems
Define Different Types of Economic Systems Traditional economies are steered through historical
practise, often in which communities use original tools and methods to harvest and hunt for food,
resulting in very little economic growth. Traditional economies have a tendency to operate in rural
Third World countries and appear to live in poverty even if their needs are being met. When traditional
economies interact with market or command economies, money plays an important role, it enables
those in the traditional economy to purchase better equipment to make their farming, hunting or
fishing more profitable. The United States had many features of a traditional economy before the
Great Depression. In the beginning of the 20th century, 60% of the United Stated lived in farming
communities, whilst 41% of the workforce were employed by farms. Over farming occurred in
response to high demand from Europe after World War I. In addition two thirds of Haiti s population
relies on subsistence farming for their livelihood. Their reliance on wood as a primary source of fuel
has stripped the forests of trees. This makes them vulnerable to natural disasters, such as the
earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010 Source: CIA World Factbook, Haiti s Economy; Marginal

Transhab Case
TransHab was designed to have inflatable outer layers with a stiff central core. This configuration
would provide the habitat with more packing efficiency as in case of inflatable structures and the stiff
central core will enhance the load carrying capabilities. The central core consisted of 8 longerons,
integrated ductwork, bulkheads, radiation shielding tanks containing water (will protect the crew from
radiations during solar flares) and repositionable launch shelves (which would reposition themselves
once the habitat is in orbit). While designing an inflatable habitat, it is crucial to take into account the

Analysis Of Malcolm X English Language
In this article he laments the fact that his communicative knowledge was low and that he never
received a response from any of the letters he wrote to those outside of prison. This was where he
acknowledges his frustration about his language ability. He compared his ability to speak the English
language prior to his imprisonment with his prison attempts to communicate to different people and he
saw that the latter was vastly inferior to the former. He says, I became increasingly frustrated at not
being able to express what I wanted to convey in the letters I wrote... In the street I had been the most
articulate hustler out there I commanded attention... (pg.68). This realization provided the spark he
needed to start improving his language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He saw that he could not communicate effectively with his new intended audience and sought to see
where he could improve. By comparing his ability to his pre prison audience and how he
communicated with them, he found a strategy that would be effective (pg. 68). This was another thing
he did well. He was open minded enough to realize that his language use to his restricted audience
would not work with the people he was not trying to communicate. He was smart enough to realize
that he, not his audience, had to make the necessary changes if he was going to express his ideas in a
manner that was easy for them to understand. This ability is illustrated by his words, ...neither would I
replied to anyone writing me something as wild as the white man is the devil (pg. 67). There really is
not much weakness to this article as it does not leave out any vital details concerning his realization
that he needed to be better educated. The article is all about Malcolm X turning a weakness into a
strength which he later used for his future success. The points Malcolm X makes about learning one s
language are excellent. If one wants to communicate with others in an articulate and clear manner then
knowing one s native language is imperative. Especially if one wants or is expecting a well reasoned
response. He writes, It was because of my letters... starting to acquire some sort of homemade
education. (pg.68). In that essence it is easy to agree with Malcolm

Similarities Between Jones And Ernest Hemingway
Men are held to a standard of manliness, a standard that some men easily maintain and others seem to
have trouble achieving. Merriam Webster defines manliness as, the set of qualities considered
appropriate for or characteristic of men. What are those qualities and who is manly and who is not?
Both Ernest Hemmingway and Thom Jones have mutually divergent and analogous views on regard to
manliness in their short stories. Ernest Hemingway, as a person, is what many would call the idealistic
man. He was an extraordinarily talented fisherman. He was an accomplished boxer. He was the winner
of the bronze star as a war correspondent during World War II. Hemingway s acts of bravery and
manliness make him the epitome of manhood. This view of masculinity ... Show more content on

He never saw action because he was discharged before his unit left for Vietnam. Within Jones s story,
The Pugilist at Rest, he confronts the hardships of both cowardice and courageousness. We find the
narrator of the story has many things in common with the author such as a seizure disorder stemming
from a brain injury. The narrator begins his story describing the life of a soldier in the barracks during
training. They throw around demeaning terms like many men do, they go on insulting each other and
then the word faggot is used. Additionally, the narrator calls some of the people who dropped out of
the Marine boot camps physical test pussies. These terms depict a male who is less than manly. Thus,
this is an attack on manhood. The story progresses we get an idea of Jorgeson, his views of manhood
are slightly skewed from what Hemmingway would call manliness. Jorgeson wants an artist loft and
to wear a beret. He also wants to listen to songs by The Little Sparrow, Edith Piaf. Later in the story,
the narrator of The Pugilist at Rest gets into his first fire fight with the N.V.A. In comparison to
Hemingway s story, the narrator seems to be timid under the pressure and end up running away. The
narrator of The Pugilist at Rest also compares himself to Davy Crockett who says he was cowering
under the bed. He then asks himself what courage and cowardice is. The

Lucretius Writing on the Fear of Death Essay
At the most basic level of subconscious thought, every living animal possesses a desire to stay alive.
Usually, this instinct lays dormant, although in dire situations, we can be led to do unexpected things.
In addition to this subconscious drive, there is a socially constructed motivation for fearing death.
Thanks to the pervasive nature of religion throughout history, much of humanity has, at some point or
another, feared the prospect of eternal damnation and torture during one s life after death. Although
not every religion has a negative aspect of the afterlife, or even any semblance of an afterlife at all,
those religions which do contain some such construct receive much more attention in this regard.
Throughout history, many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In On the Nature of Things, Lucretius argues that not only is the whole of the human body (both
tangible parts, like organs, and intangible concepts, like the soul) created from distinct types of atoms,
but that this is the basis upon which an afterlife may be disproved. One of the principle tenets of
atomism is that the atoms people are comprised of provide the basis for physical sensations we might
experience, such as heat, touch, smell, et cetera. Lucretius provides the corollary to this view by
noting that without some mechanism for processing these input data, we would not smell things, or
might burn our hands in a fire. This cognition of external stimuli is one of the key functions of the soul
atoms which permeate our bodies. The soul, Lucretius says, is comprised of four distinct types of
atoms: breath, heat, air, and a fourth, unnamed variety, which is more mobile than the other three
(3.231). The presence of these soul atoms can be proved by observing a person s reactions to various
ailments; sickness afflicts both the body and the mind, for example, demonstrating that they are
intrinsically linked. In addition, because sensation may occur at any point in or on the body, the soul
must be distributed completely and evenly throughout oneself. Atomism says that no atoms are ever
created or destroyed,

Competitive Market Demand
CESARANO FRANCESCO
ESSAY N.3
SUPPLY AND DEMAND WITH THE FOREIGN EXCHANGE MARKET
The concept of competitive market can be explained by saying that there is a large number of firms
competing each other with a large number of buyers, selling an identical product. There is also
perfectly freedom to entry and to leave the industry.
One of the consequence of this type of market is that the firms are price taker, which means that if
they try to raise the price by one unit for example, the consumers will buy somewhere else and
therefore they will leave, due to the competition from the other firms. This lead to a perfectly elastic
demand curve for any given product.
The last presumption is that the producer and consumers are aware of the ... Show more content on

Due to the high volume of participants, either a central bank or a single individual cannot interfere
with the current price against market speculation and therefore they are price taker .
There are many theories developed by economist trying to explain how exchange rate move, but none
of them has so far proved to be very accurate with the future exchange rate moves predicted.
On one side there are the technical analysts which believe that all the economic studies such as
inflation, interest rate, etc. are already known by the market and are reflected in the current price.
The chartists as they are also known, study charts that represents price movement over a period and
claim that future repetition of certain patterns can be predicted. Although Economist don t approve
Technical analyst approach, in the last two decades it had great influence on the forex market.
On the other side there is the theory of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) which states that the rate will
adjust to the point where international purchasing power is equal.
In other word that mean that the price of any good would be the same in every country, a simple
example would be like The Economist states in its Big Mac index.
This means that one of the most important factor for exchange rates movement is the different

Payroll Taxes Essay
Payroll taxes first appeared numerous years ago and have since evolved, grown, and underwent major
changes. Payroll taxes are taxes that are paid by employers and their employees. Payroll taxes are
collected by the federal, state, and local governments to fund certain programs or projects. The
employee s tax proportion is typically deducted from the employee s wages every earning period, and
the employer fraction of the payroll taxes are paid directly by the employer and are based upon their
employee s wages. The amount of payroll taxes that must be paid are required to be reported to the
Internal Revenue Service and the employer s state and local taxing agencies. Smaller businesses tend
to lean towards independent contractors because the business is not required to pay taxes for
independent contractors. Independent contractors are considered self employed and are responsible for
the employee as well as the employer portion of payroll taxes. Whenever a business falls behind in
reporting payroll taxes or paying the taxes to the IRS, there are consequences. The IRS can attach a
late payment fee or add a tremendous amount of interest to the original tax payment in addition to
holding one person solely responsible for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Effects Of Technology On Music
Technological Advances in Music and its effects
Introduction
In the early years of music, musicians performed on stage with live bands and orchestras to the locals
in the community. Their music consisted of many harmonies and rhythms that would relax the mind
and ease stress. Their classical style of music had more of a string type sound, in comparison to the
rough and rugged sounds of today s music. Did this rough music affect the way we hear things
compared to their classical harmonic sounds? What technological advances in musical devices have
caused these effects if there are any? Does music now affect the way we live compared to the music of

This was the case because headphones of the past were only used in the business industry as a way of
communication. However, before one can derive whether a particular design is prone to cause more
damage than the other, one must first understand the ear and the process of hearing. Hearing involves
the external, middle, and inner ear. The auricle is what most people consider to be the ear itself, which
is the external flesh on the outside head. Inside the auricle is a passage way known as the external
auditory meatus (Seeley, Stevens, Tate, 2002). Inside are hair like structures and ceruminous glands,
which serve as the lining for the meatus. Also, the ceruminous glands produce cerumen, more
commonly known as earwax (Seeley, Stevens, Tate, 2002). Together, the hairs and cerumen provide
protection to the tympanic membrane, or eardrum, which separates the external and middle ear. Sound
waves, vibrations of air, pass through the tympanic membrane, causing vibrations. Located in the
middle ear are three auditory ossicles. These ossicles are the only three bones of the ear, which are the
malleus, incus and stapes. Vibrations of the tympanic membrane also cause the ossicles to vibrate.
Vibrations are amplified and transferred to the oval window, one of the two openings, by the stapes
(Seeley, Stevens, Tate, 2002). This produces movement in the perilymph of the cochlea. Perilymph is

West Los Angeles is home to two prominent cemeteries: the Westwood Village Memorial Park

serving as the rest place for many famous individuals within the entertainment industry. Famous
names such as Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin, Natalie Wood, Roy Orbison, and Jack Lemmon are
buried at this grave site. Nearly less than a mile away from this cemetery is the Los Angeles National
Cemetery. Established in 1889, this national cemetery is home to many members of the armed forces
who have actively served in the military and/or law enforcement. These two distinct cemeteries may
only appear to share relativity through their short distance, but they also symbolize many cultural
aspects of the American ideology. The Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery and the Veterans
Cemetery reinforces American societal conformities and ideals by perpetuating the idea of gender
bias, displaying extreme idolization of celebrity status, and imprinting religious affiliation. Through
tombstone appearance, cultural imprints on the tombstones, and categorization of the tombstones, both
cemeteries embody contemporary American and Los Angeles culture.

Tom Cruise Pre Crime
In the movie that stars Tom Cruise as the head detective for the pre crime unit there are several
intriguing ideas going on. John Anderson who is played by Tome Cruise gets his information from
what is known as the pre cogs who are a group of two males and one female. These pre cogs are able
to see into the future when a murder is going to take place. These three people are floating in a liquid
unable to move to leave. They stay lying there all day and night just to serve the purpose of warning
the pre crime police of danger that is suppose to come. Which sets up our first dilemma that takes
place during this movie.
These three people or pre cogs because in the movie they are not really thought as being human beings
are really imprisoned. They don t have the ability to leave or go home; instead they are forced into
drugs that keep them somewhat conscious but not too much as to know of their surroundings. They

we murder someone. Hence, the rationale behind arresting people who have yet to commit a crime

belief that humans have no sense of free

My Pen Writes In Blue And White By Vincent Cremona
In the last paragraph of the essay My Pen Writes in Blue and White , Vincent Cremona infers that,
through his childhood familiarity with blue collar and white collar working environments, he has
attained an expansive world view that enables him to sympathize with various cultural backgrounds
today. By enveloping this dual mindset of society, Cremona has developed an impartial writing style
capable of communicating with a wide variety of backgrounds effectively, whom, in his words, is to
see as either blue, or white, or some shade thereof (195) In other words, the author explains that he
can adopt either method of communication from blue collar and white collar societies individually, or
blend the two styles together. By doing so, Cremona harnesses the authoritative terminology of white
collar speech, while exhibiting the loud and brash nature of blue collar speech in one format to help
achieve the intended audience reaction. (196) This point is demonstrated in the author s earlier
example, where after filing a complaint to an airline while utilizing this writing format, swift action
was taken by the firm to compensate Cremona for his trouble. Cremona s ability to persuade the
airline was due, in part, to the author s ability to convey emotion plainly and effectively through
written words alone, thanks to his utilization of blue collar speech; Cremona himself views this form
of expression as basic, bold, and workman like [sic]. (195) In this definition, Cremona

Thalidomide Lab Report
Thalidomide is a drug, which has the molecular formula of C13H10N2O4, it is made up of a pair of
optical isomers. Optical isomers are two or more forms of a compound that have the same structure
but are mirror images of each other. They have identical physical and chemical properties. They differ
in how they react with different chiral molecules (a carbon attached to four different types of atoms.
The isomers are extremely difficult to separate. Thalidomide was first synthesized by reaction of N
phthaloyl glutamic acid anhydride (III) with ammonia or urea at high temperatures. The reaction can
be carried out at temperatures between −10° C. and 115° C., typically from 0° to 80° C. The synthesis
can be carried out in a single reactor without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

caused serious and unusual birth defects, such as malformation or absence of limbs. It is estimated that
10,000 babies were born with birth defects due to thalidomide, 500 of them were in the UK.

Research Paper On Constructivism
Constructivism: A Review
Abstract
Constructivism is an all encompassing theory of learning that emerged as a prevailing paradigm in the
last part of the twentieth century. Constructivism is a theory which brings cogitation to pedagogy
(Bruner, 1966). Constructivism capitalizes on the ways in which human beings create their own
personal construct of reality by understanding and experiencing the world. The cornerstone of
constructivism is that constructing personal meaning is ingrained in individuals right from the birth
(Vygotsky, 1978).
The Overview
Constructivist approach explains the ways in which learners make their own personal senses of
learning tasks, the environment, the teacher, and the actual process of learning (Vygotsky, 1962).

In education teacher acts more akin to a mediator consulting and helping learner grow. Social
constructivism adopts its stance as internationalist perspective operating within social context.
Learners are actively involved in the process of learning shaping their experiences about the world by
other significant people (Vygotsky, 1962).
3
Constructivism is part of educational psychology which places the learner at the central focus.
Learner learns by interacting in a social context of teacher and text. Each individual learner is sui
generis, no two learners are the same. The ways they view the world are not the same. Learners bring
these differences to the learning situation. Teachers must be cognizant of these differences.
Furthermore no two teachers and teaching situations are ever the same. Like students, teachers should
become self aware of their beliefs and attitude to the teaching and learning and make their own
contributions to the learner as the situations arise (Williams and Burden, 1997). While learners are
interacting with the task beforehand, teachers are required to take the learners response to the tasks to
see if they are appropriate to their levels of developments congruent

of IT in the Accounting Work Information technology (IT) has changed the accounting department for
the better (Shanker). Today, IT is already present and is used widely in the business field, specifically
in accounting offices (Shanker, 2006). The following are the positive effects of IT in the Accounting
Work: Speed is the most important characteristic of IT. The use of various technologies results to
faster and more accurate performances. Technologies are mainly composed of hardware and software
and these two must be always compatible for the accountant s specific works in order to deliver the
best performance. In order for technologies to be more effective as far as speed is concerned, the
system of accounting should have always backup systems for the technologies that are being used

Disguise And Shakespeare s The Merchant Of Venice And...
The concept of disguise has been known and used since the beginnings of drama, but this concept was
most famously known for being used in plays written by the biggest playwrights of the Elizabethan
era especially for being used in William Shakespeare s plays. What do we mean by disguise? In broad
terms, it would mean pretending to be something that one is not. The concept of disguise can mean
changing behavior, or hiding intentions, the most frequent form of disguise is the change of ones
personal appearance, usually through the changing of clothes, to mask ones true self. Shakespeare
used disguises in various ways in his plays; As You Like It, Measure for Measure, The Merchant of
Venice, and Twelfth Night were all plays in which Shakespeare used the concept of disguise as a
device to further the plot, it was sometimes even used for comic relief. Disguises can be used both
maliciously and/ or morally, depending on its use and its influence on the characters. In both Merchant
of Venice and Measure for Measure, both Portia and Duke Vincentio donned a disguise to pursue
justice how they saw morally fit, but ultimately their deception was only for selfish gain; Portia
disguises herself to save a friend, and Vincentio disguises himself to know the true feelings of his
subjects, both manipulate the law in the name of justice while in their disguises.
In The Merchant of Venice, the concept of disguise was briefly used by Jessica, Shylocks daughter, to
escape her fathers home to

  • 2. Brooke Gladstone s The Influencing Machine In, The Influencing Machine, author Brooke Gladstone explains that the changing media does not change our brains if we do not let it. This goes against all the fears of technology thus far, essentially making us humans the artificial intelligence. Take, for instance, a schizophrenic. When they do not take their medicine dark and twisty thoughts are allowed to creep up inside their heads. Alot of times they see and hear things that are not actually there. This makes them feel like somebody, or some outside force is causing all of the problems. In actuality, it is themselves. Now, take something that is a bit more relatable to people. When the children grew up, they would ultimately find themselves in the insane asylum. Then, the alphabet was feared that it would cause forgetfulness. People would essentially trust the written words more than they would orally and it would cause problems. Danny Crichton, in his article, Fear Not The Robot, tells that this fear is typical. It is like a revolving door. Every few years the fears come back. Typically they are caused by books and articles. Google s self driving cars have driven almost a million miles. People are suggesting that their next invention will be self driving diesels. • 3. Pros And Cons Of Robots Robots are becoming more and more advanced. As employers implement more automation, it is likely that many will lose their jobs to a robot. Robots have already been employed in many industries successfully especially in manufacturing. This automation improves the productivity in manufacturing and in effect, reduces the costs to make products. Manufacturing jobs now populated by people have many Musculoskeletal disease risk factors. With the application of robots, workers will not have to put themselves at risk for personal injury caused by MSD s. Research shows that repetitive work can cause musculoskeletal diseases in humans, but fortunately, robots are starting to acquire the tedious, manual labor jobs that enhance these diseases more; therefore, robots are seen as an ethical improvement to job safety and wellness. Musculoskeletal diseases are the leading cause of disability in the United States. MSD s are diseases that affect the muscles, bones, and any connecting tissue , and they cause chronic pains and mobility issues. In the workforce, there are MSD risk factors that contribute to the onset or advancement of MSD s. They include heavy lifting, rapidly and or repeatedly doing the same tasks, awkward positions, vibrations, bodily impacts, etc.[1]. There are many occupations that put workers at risk for MSD s especially labor intensive jobs. The pain and immobility that can be caused by MSD s lower the quality of life of occupants and cause reduced productivity. When an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Safe environments are built and there s a respect for diversity. Another highly important factor in effective schools is a highly effective leader. Leadership is a key characteristic in a PLC also. The principal acts as an instructional leader building relationships with the staff and developing high moral. These characteristics are all evident in a PLC. When schools truly begin to align their practices with a commitment to learning for all, the educators within them begin to function as a Professional Learning Community (DuFour, DuFour Eaker, 2008, p. 21). The PLC is more of an re culturing instead of a school reform. It is an ongoing process through which a staff works collaboratively to share learning goals. In order to reach the goals set forth in laws such as NCLB, a school must change it s culture to maintain an ongoing collaborative process to enhance everyone s effectiveness to improve student behavior ( Nygard, 2010). Four Essential Questions The first role in building a successful learning community is to formulate a solid base of shared mission, vision, values, and goals. These four are the building blocks of a solid foundation for decision making for school improvement. Mission or purpose is the first block and focuses on the question Why do we exist? The second block is vision or the direction the school is headed. It asks the question What kind of school or district do we hope to become? A values block asks How ... Another recycled material is the melody that occurs in the movie between 31 45 and 32 04 on the scene where Michurin and the dignitaries were raising their glasses in a toast to Michurin s much expected success in developing a new horticultural technique for the benefit of Russian people. The piano plays the melody as a background music in the scene. Part of the melody becomes an important recurrent motive that gives a sense of unity to the oratorio Song of the Forests op. 81 (fig. 2). The unavailability of the film music score forces the author to assume that the melody is written in the key of C major as seen in fig. 2 below. Both the short and the longer versions of the melody, which appear previously in film music Michurin (fig. 2), appear in all songs of the oratorio and give a sense of unity. Borrowing the terminology mentioned by Pauline Fairclough, the short version will be called motive x. Therefore, the full length version will be called melody x. Motive x starts on the first scale degree and ascends until the fifth scale degree with a sixth scale degree as a diatonic upper neighbor pitch.According to Fairclough, motive x connects songs number 1, 6, and 7, and this proves that the Song of the Forests was composed very carefully. In addition to Fairclough s statement, motive x actually occurs in other songs as well generating a coherence in the oratorio. Below is several examples of the utilization of motive x in each song. Well 5 was a shallow well, and all of the water drawn from the well came from a very shallow area. This water was drawn from an area of highly fractured bedrock. This fracturing, and the geological nature of the surrounding bedrock, made it possible for surface bacteria to quickly enter into the fractured rock (O Connor, 2002, pp.166). The water distribution system in Walkerton included 41.5 km of water mains as well as two standpipes, which provided water storage and pressure equalization for the system. It is estimated that in the Walkerton system, between 33 and 35 locations were dead ends. A twenty one year old woman by the name of Anna O that was caring for her ailing father began to experience severe debilitating physical and psychological symptoms. During this period, most psychoses were labeled as hysteria. Anna O began to hallucinate, experience paralysis, and have an extreme aversion to food and drink. She underwent treatment with Dr. Breuer (Oxford Journals, 2005). When Dr. Breuer treated Anna O for her hysteria and her mental and physical symptoms he discovered that as she began to talk of hidden thought processes about her experiences during their discussions, whether through hypnosis or while conscious, certain symptoms would disappear (Oxford Journals, 2005). Dr. Breuer discussed Anna O s case with Sigmund Freud and Freud later perfected this talking cure. Also known as sweeping the chimney or sweeping the mind. Sigmund Freud s theory of the unconscious mind claimed that people experience hysteria or other reactions in response to repressed experiences. The unconscious contains all those drives, urges, or instincts that are beyond our awareness but that nevertheless motivate most of our words, feelings, and actions (Feist Feist, 2008). So much so that the stump speeches, for both former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, and senator, Bernie Sanders, always include this issue. Since the 1960s, congress and many researchers have tested this theory. In order to affirm the validity of this message, we will perform a five step hypothesis test. In the book, Statistical Techniques in Business Economics, authors D. Lind, W. Marchal S. Wathen (2012), describe how to conduct this test of hypothesis. We seek to determine if two sampled populations, females and males, have the same mean (arithmetic average) wages. The process begins with only the raw data from a 2005 wages database. As a result, the authors further explain: The method described does not require that we know the standard deviations of the populations (2012). For that reason, we assume the sampled populations are equal, but, the standard deviations are unknown. Then, we use the t test as the test statistic, with 30 degrees of freedom. Problem Statement In an online article entitled The Simple Truth About the Gender Pay Gap , published on the AAUW website, author Catherine Hill, PhD, had this to say: Did you know that in 2014, women working full time in the United States typically were paid just 79 percent of what men were paid, a gap of 21 percent? • 21. Disadvantages Of Budgeting Budgeting performance provides as a basis for judging actual results because the inefficiencies of past performance can be eliminated or adjusted in the budget. Another reason is that future conditions (such as changes in technology, products, personnel and competition) may differ from the past conditions and this can be adequately factored in the budget. Budgeting defines expectations thus ensuring the most suitable model for future performance. These are financial plans for future which explains allocations for revenue. Along with estimating future sales, budgets have limits for expenses, such as payroll, rent, utilities, supplies, advertising, insurance and taxes. Motivational considerations help reduce employee feelings of ill will, disrespect of the budget process, and alienation from management. Different Types Of Economic Systems Define Different Types of Economic Systems Traditional economies are steered through historical practise, often in which communities use original tools and methods to harvest and hunt for food, resulting in very little economic growth. Traditional economies have a tendency to operate in rural Third World countries and appear to live in poverty even if their needs are being met. When traditional economies interact with market or command economies, money plays an important role, it enables those in the traditional economy to purchase better equipment to make their farming, hunting or fishing more profitable. The United States had many features of a traditional economy before the Great Depression. Analysis Of Malcolm X English Language In this article he laments the fact that his communicative knowledge was low and that he never received a response from any of the letters he wrote to those outside of prison. This was where he acknowledges his frustration about his language ability. He compared his ability to speak the English language prior to his imprisonment with his prison attempts to communicate to different people and he saw that the latter was vastly inferior to the former. He says, I became increasingly frustrated at not being able to express what I wanted to convey in the letters I wrote... In the street I had been the most articulate hustler out there I commanded attention... (pg.68). This realization provided the spark he needed to start improving his language ... By comparing his ability to his pre prison audience and how he communicated with them, he found a strategy that would be effective (pg. 68). This was another thing he did well. He was open minded enough to realize that his language use to his restricted audience would not work with the people he was not trying to communicate. He was smart enough to realize that he, not his audience, had to make the necessary changes if he was going to express his ideas in a manner that was easy for them to understand. This ability is illustrated by his words, ...neither would I replied to anyone writing me something as wild as the white man is the devil (pg. 67). There really is not much weakness to this article as it does not leave out any vital details concerning his realization that he needed to be better educated. The article is all about Malcolm X turning a weakness into a strength which he later used for his future success. The points Malcolm X makes about learning one s language are excellent. If one wants to communicate with others in an articulate and clear manner then knowing one s native language is imperative. Especially if one wants or is expecting a well reasoned response. Merriam Webster defines manliness as, the set of qualities considered appropriate for or characteristic of men. What are those qualities and who is manly and who is not? Both Ernest Hemmingway and Thom Jones have mutually divergent and analogous views on regard to manliness in their short stories. Ernest Hemingway, as a person, is what many would call the idealistic man. He was an extraordinarily talented fisherman. He was an accomplished boxer. • 28. Lucretius Writing on the Fear of Death Essay At the most basic level of subconscious thought, every living animal possesses a desire to stay alive. Usually, this instinct lays dormant, although in dire situations, we can be led to do unexpected things. In addition to this subconscious drive, there is a socially constructed motivation for fearing death. Thanks to the pervasive nature of religion throughout history, much of humanity has, at some point or another, feared the prospect of eternal damnation and torture during one s life after death. Although not every religion has a negative aspect of the afterlife, or even any semblance of an afterlife at all, those religions which do contain some such construct receive much more attention in this regard. In On the Nature of Things, Lucretius argues that not only is the whole of the human body (both tangible parts, like organs, and intangible concepts, like the soul) created from distinct types of atoms, but that this is the basis upon which an afterlife may be disproved. One of the principle tenets of atomism is that the atoms people are comprised of provide the basis for physical sensations we might experience, such as heat, touch, smell, et cetera. Lucretius provides the corollary to this view by noting that without some mechanism for processing these input data, we would not smell things, or might burn our hands in a fire. This cognition of external stimuli is one of the key functions of the soul atoms which permeate our bodies. The soul, Lucretius says, is comprised of four distinct types of atoms: breath, heat, air, and a fourth, unnamed variety, which is more mobile than the other three (3.231). The presence of these soul atoms can be proved by observing a person s reactions to various ailments; sickness afflicts both the body and the mind, for example, demonstrating that they are intrinsically linked. In addition, because sensation may occur at any point in or on the body, the soul must be distributed completely and evenly throughout oneself. Atomism says that no atoms are ever created or destroyed, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the consequence of this type of market is that the firms are price taker, which means that if they try to raise the price by one unit for example, the consumers will buy somewhere else and therefore they will leave, due to the competition from the other firms. The employee s tax proportion is typically deducted from the employee s wages every earning period, and the employer fraction of the payroll taxes are paid directly by the employer and are based upon their employee s wages. The amount of payroll taxes that must be paid are required to be reported to the Internal Revenue Service and the employer s state and local taxing agencies. However, before one can derive whether a particular design is prone to cause more damage than the other, one must first understand the ear and the process of hearing. Hearing involves the external, middle, and inner ear. The auricle is what most people consider to be the ear itself, which is the external flesh on the outside head. Inside the auricle is a passage way known as the external auditory meatus (Seeley, Stevens, Tate, 2002). Inside are hair like structures and ceruminous glands, which serve as the lining for the meatus. Also, the ceruminous glands produce cerumen, more commonly known as earwax (Seeley, Stevens, Tate, 2002). Together, the hairs and cerumen provide protection to the tympanic membrane, or eardrum, which separates the external and middle ear. Sound waves, vibrations of air, pass through the tympanic membrane, causing vibrations. Located in the middle ear are three auditory ossicles. These ossicles are the only three bones of the ear, which are the malleus, incus and stapes. Vibrations of the tympanic membrane also cause the ossicles to vibrate. Vibrations are amplified and transferred to the oval window, one of the two openings, by the stapes (Seeley, Stevens, Tate, 2002). This produces movement in the perilymph of the cochlea. A person has free will and with that power they have the ability to decide to murder someone or not. The movie shows that at the end we do in fact have a choice to whether or not we murder someone. Hence, the rationale behind arresting people who have yet to commit a crime should be illegal and unethical. You are stripping that person of his or her rights and reaching the belief that humans have no sense of free ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. My Pen Writes In Blue And White By Vincent Cremona In the last paragraph of the essay My Pen Writes in Blue and White , Vincent Cremona infers that, through his childhood familiarity with blue collar and white collar working environments, he has attained an expansive world view that enables him to sympathize with various cultural backgrounds today. By enveloping this dual mindset of society, Cremona has developed an impartial writing style capable of communicating with a wide variety of backgrounds effectively, whom, in his words, is to see as either blue, or white, or some shade thereof (195) In other words, the author explains that he can adopt either method of communication from blue collar and white collar societies individually, or blend the two styles together. By doing so, Cremona harnesses the authoritative terminology of white collar speech, while exhibiting the loud and brash nature of blue collar speech in one format to help achieve the intended audience reaction. (196) This point is demonstrated in the author s earlier example, where after filing a complaint to an airline while utilizing this writing format, swift action was taken by the firm to compensate Cremona for his trouble. Cremona s ability to persuade the airline was due, in part, to the author s ability to convey emotion plainly and effectively through written words alone, thanks to his utilization of blue collar speech; Cremona himself views this form of expression as basic, bold, and workman like [sic]. (195) In this definition, Cremona ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Research Paper On Constructivism Constructivism: A Review Abstract Constructivism is an all encompassing theory of learning that emerged as a prevailing paradigm in the last part of the twentieth century. Constructivism is a theory which brings cogitation to pedagogy (Bruner, 1966). Constructivism capitalizes on the ways in which human beings create their own personal construct of reality by understanding and experiencing the world. The cornerstone of constructivism is that constructing personal meaning is ingrained in individuals right from the birth (Vygotsky, 1978). The Overview Constructivist approach explains the ways in which learners make their own personal senses of learning tasks, the environment, the teacher, and the actual process of learning (Vygotsky, 1962). Social constructivism adopts its stance as internationalist perspective operating within social context. Learners are actively involved in the process of learning shaping their experiences about the world by other significant people (Vygotsky, 1962). 3 Constructivism is part of educational psychology which places the learner at the central focus. Learner learns by interacting in a social context of teacher and text. Each individual learner is sui generis, no two learners are the same. The ways they view the world are not the same. Learners bring these differences to the learning situation. Teachers must be cognizant of these differences. Furthermore no two teachers and teaching situations are ever the same. Like students, teachers should become self aware of their beliefs and attitude to the teaching and learning and make their own contributions to the learner as the situations arise (Williams and Burden, 1997). While learners are interacting with the task beforehand, teachers are required to take the learners response to the tasks to see if they are appropriate to their levels of developments congruent ... The concept of disguise has been known and used since the beginnings of drama, but this concept was most famously known for being used in plays written by the biggest playwrights of the Elizabethan era especially for being used in William Shakespeare s plays. What do we mean by disguise? In broad terms, it would mean pretending to be something that one is not. The concept of disguise can mean changing behavior, or hiding intentions, the most frequent form of disguise is the change of ones personal appearance, usually through the changing of clothes, to mask ones true self. Shakespeare used disguises in various ways in his plays; As You Like It, Measure for Measure, The Merchant of Venice, and Twelfth Night were all plays in which Shakespeare used the concept of disguise as a device to further the plot, it was sometimes even used for comic relief. Disguises can be used both maliciously and/ or morally, depending on its use and its influence on the characters. In both Merchant of Venice and Measure for Measure, both Portia and Duke Vincentio donned a disguise to pursue justice how they saw morally fit, but ultimately their deception was only for selfish gain; Portia disguises herself to save a friend, and Vincentio disguises himself to know the true feelings of his subjects, both manipulate the law in the name of justice while in their disguises. In The Merchant of Venice, the concept of disguise was briefly used by Jessica, Shylocks daughter, to escape her fathers home to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
