Ecological Succession Essay
1. Explain the process of ecological succession, including the role of plants in maintaining
biodiversity and the survival of organisms after a disturbance to an ecosystem. Ecological succession
allows a biological community to evolve over time (2). This succession is divided into two distinct
sections: primary and secondary succession. Primary succession allows life to form in regions with
soil incapable of sustaining larger plants and by extension, larger animals (2). Secondary succession
occurs in areas where a community used to exist, but was removed; leaving behind soil capable of
sustaining life (2). This process allows bare rock to transform into a hillside or a forest to recover after
a fire and is extremely important to ecosystems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Monocots have an embryo with one cotyledon, whereas, dicots have two cotyledons (5). Monocots
have pollen with a single furrow/pore while dicots have pollen with three furrows or pores (5).
Monocots have flower parts in multiples of three, however, dicots have have flower parts in multiples
of fours and fives (5). In monocots the left veins are parallel but in dicots the left veins are reticulated
(5). Dicots have the vascular bundles in their stems arranged in a ring, whereas, in monocots the
vascular bundles are scattered throughout the stem (5). Dicots have roots that start from one primary
root that develops from the bottom of the seed and all grow from that root. The roots of monocots on
the other hand grow randomly from a variety of different nodes on the stem (5). Dicots are in some
cases capable of secondary growth, but all monocots have lost this ability (5). Monocots are believed
to have evolved from dicots around 200 million years ago when their lineage split (6) (7). 5. Explain
the reproductive mechanisms of plants in natural reproduction and artificial propagation (e.g.,
germination of seeds, leaf cuttings, grafting of branches onto a host tree)? 6. Create a table to compare
the seeds, pollination and fertilization of gymnosperms and angiosperms. 7. Identify and explain two
processes by which plants are able to asexually reproduce and propagate.

Summary Of Friedrich Nietzsche s Beyond Good And Evil
Friedrich Nietzsche was born in 1844 and died in 1900. He was born in Rocken, Prussia, attended
Lutheran boarding school in Pforta, and graduated in 1864. He enrolled in the university of Bonn to
study theology and soon after changing his views on religion and becoming an atheist, he transferred
to the University Leipzig to study classical philology. He was known for his many important works in
philology and became a professor at Basel in 1869. Nietzsche saw society as will to power. His model
of reality was materialism. He believed in human law and therefore believed that the weak created
natural law to benefit themselves because they were unable to defend themselves. Martin Luther King
Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1929 and died in 1968. He attended college at Morehouse college
and soon wanted to become a Baptist minister like his father. Shortly after graduating from college in
1948 he attended a seminary at Chester, Pennsylvania and then received his bachelor of divinity
degree in 1955. While King worked on his doctoral degree he became a Baptist minister and became
very involved in the civil rights movement. King wrote Letter from Birmingham Jail while confined in
Birmingham jail for leading a demonstration protesting segregation. King believed that everyone was
created equal and that our laws should reflect our equal rights. He believed in the transcendence model
of reality.
In Friedrich Nietzsche s Beyond Good and Evil, Nietzsche writes about how he views

Forrest Hall Building For University Essay
I agree with the students who want to change the name of the Forrest Hall Building on MTSU campus,
because I think our students have the responsibility as those with the power to change this name since
we don t want to our state university to represent something hateful. When MTSU built its ROTC
building in 1954, President Smith named it Forrest Hall in honor of Nathan Bedford Forrest s
reputation as an interpid confederate cavalry leader who won fame with his brilliant raids. Maybe that
was Forrest s reputation in 1954, but in 2015 Forrest s reputation becomes one of hate, racism, and
violence. We do not want or need that at MTSU. A quick background on Nathan Bedford Forrest, was

How Pop Music Affects Society
It has been many centuries since the early days of music where it was restricted to classical tunes and
melodic melodies. In this time music has evolved to something of individual celebration, achievement,
and even a battle call for the rights of people everywhere expressed though a large range of musical
genres and styles. Music can be split into different sections based on how it is produced, what it
contains musically, and how it affects the audience through language or influence. Although every
genre of music has a different purpose and twist, pop music is the most popular in today s society
because of how it is produced, its chord progression, common and recurring cadences, and its relatable
lyrics and by the influential singers behind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional Probability of Chord
Progression on Brain Response: An MEG Study, showed that structures commonly found in pop
music created spikes in the right anterior portion of the brain, when specific chords are played in
dissonance to the original key, such as a Neapolitan sixth. Pop music has this effect because it is
commonly in a major key and has little to no modulation. This creates a soothing effect that spikes the
brain causing the release of serotonin making the listener happier the more they listen. Pop music also
creates a soothing and pleasing tone that is both powerful and euphoric through the use of the standard
chord progression I V vi VI. This chordal progression is used in many pop music melodies, choruses,
and even establishes a commonality through major structures that are both pleasing to the ear and the
mind. By creating these melodic structures, pop music is able to give its listeners chordal structure
statistical probability. Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional
Probability, found that year old children were able to predict tonal sequences found in typical pop
music. This is most commonly related to the resolution to the tonic of any given key. Pop music uses
this by relying on strong chords within the key, such as the dominant and mediant because of their
strong relation to the tonic. Other music styles such as jazz and even some techno rely on weaker
chords that stem from the leading tone and sub dominant. This weak structure calls for resolution and
even to the untrained ear tend to cause strain and discomfort making them less favorable and not
follow the conditional probability found in pop. Pop music s structure also establishes clear and
defined parts starting with the verse and then moving on to a chorus, before returning to the second
verse to

Thomas Edison And The Invention Of Thomas Edison
This is Thomas Edison. Thomas Edison is a famous inventor who invented lots of things that we use
today. He was born a very long time ago in the United States of America.
Thomas was a very naughty child. He used to always get into trouble for misbehaving such as the time
when he set his father s barn on fire. He was only six years old when this incident took place.
Thomas only started school at the age of seven. He was unable to go to school at an early age because
he was quite sick and his mom had to take care of him at home.
At school Thomas could not concentrate and used to constantly disturb the children and the teacher.
He became quite disruptive in class and did not learn anything. His teacher then nicknamed him
Addled . Addled means someone who is unable to think clearly.
Thomas did not have a very good teacher at school. His teacher was not willing to answer his

went on to invent an electrical power system, so that people would have electricity and could use the

It was Thomas Edison who was also responsible for the invention of Motion pictures . Thomas created
equipment that would record and playback images so that they could be watched later on.
It is because of Thomas Edison that we are now able to watch movies.
Before Thomas Edison died he said The trouble with other inventors is that they try a few things then
they quit. I never quit until I get what I want
We should learn from this quote that no matter how hard things may seem, we must not give up, we
must try and keep trying until we succeed. Thomas Edison never gave up and because of that he

Future Of Fdi During The Oil And Gas Sector Essay
Future of FDI in Canada in oil and gas sector
Even though Canadian government are showing protective approach presently because of several
factors that have affected the land, and has taken the country s wealth to other country. But some
believe that because of the foreign investment the wealth of the country has increased, and this has
contributed to the overall development of the Canada and the world. Today, there are so much
investment done and this looks like it is going to increase in future, and this has showed sign of
rejection from the country s environmentalists because it is taking away the natural resources and
polluting the environment. Even though the nation has been benefited, there is contrary feeling
towards it. On the other hand, government are taking steps to make sure that too much power or all

the government in the past has benefited and supported foreign firms rather than domestic firms,
because they were trying to cut down the expenses and increase profit in the form of tax. So, the Gray
report puts forward the following policy which suggest Canadians to posses high command over the
business and environment, increase the profit and reduce the harm of foreign direct investment, and to
hold and expand Canadian control where there is need and can be controlled. The problem that

they worked on creating the precursor to RenderMan[ 1], called REYES, meaning renders everything
you ever saw and developed a number of critical technologies, including particle effects and various
animation tools. After parting ways with Lucas film, Pixar became a corporation in 1986 with funding
by Apple Inc.[ 2] co founder Steve Jobs[ 3], who became its majority shareholder. The Walt Disney

holdings surpassed holdings belonging to ex CEO Michael Eisner[ 16], the previous top shareholder,
who still held 1.7% and Disney Director Emeritus Roy E. Disney[ 17], who held almost 1% of the
corporation s shares. Disney and Pixar studios did not mean that the two studios were merging,
however. In fact, additional conditions were laid out as part of the deal to ensure that Pixar remained a
separate entity[ 18], a concern that analysts had expressed about the Disney deal. Some of those
conditions were that Pixar HR[ 19] policies would remain intact, including the lack of employment
contracts. Also, the Pixar name was guaranteed to continue, and the studio would remain in its current
Emeryville, California[ 20] location with the Pixar sign. Finally, branding of films made post merger

in 1995. Toy Story was one of my favorite films at the time. The animation was groundbreaking for its
time. It was followed by A Bug s Life[ 23] in 1998, Toy Story 2[ 24], 1999, Monsters, Inc.[ 25], 2001,

Second World War Effects On Canada Essay
The second world war had a significant impact on Canada. Fought from 1939 to 1945, the war
consisted of many events which led to drastic changes for our country. Despite the destruction and
disaster it caused, the war played a part on shaping Canada s relationship with America. Most
importantly, their economy was benefited through Americanization. Canada s government was more
involved which led to a political system called the welfare state. The war also impacted Canada s
liberal view towards the acceptance of European immigration. World war two altered and benefited
every aspect of Canada s structure; economically, socially, and politically.

Juliet, Hamlet, The Hobbit and many others. When reading Don Quixote and The Odyssey, the reader

love, fighting monsters and being structured in non linear plot; however, as the stories are developed,

Greek mythological creatures. One of his adventures with the monsters took place in an island
inhabited by the Cyclopes. When he arrived, he had the opportunity to steal cheese and animals from

Lack Of Knowledge In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In the book Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein states, Learn from me, if not by my precepts, at least by
my example, how dangerous is the acquirement of knowledge and how much happier that man is who
believes his native town to be the world, then he who aspires to become greater than his nature will
allow. Many of this can still be applied to today s technology. Knowledge is not dangerous because it
allows further advances in technology like cryonics, literary devices like Frankenstein, and in certain
circumstances that are presented in both. Cryogenics is when the body or head is frozen in chemicals
to preserve life for long periods of time. People do it in the hopes that future advances in technology
will be able to revive their heart and brain. People are not actually frozen in water. It is a mixture of
chemicals that are frozen in your body, and prevent ice crystals from forming. This is called
vitrification. The forming ice crystals are what causes damage to the tissues in your body that freezing
with regular water would cause. If scientists didn t find this out, then they would be freezing people in
water, and there would be no point. This knowledge is helpful, not dangerous. The scientists at Alcor

Leading Cause Of Negativity In Society In Arthur Miller s...
Rumors are among the many dilemmas afflicting the human condition. They eat away at society like a
parasite, undermining morality and infecting good intentions with malice or decay. Despite the fact
that rumors are not always accurate, they still spread like wildfires. Rumors are the leading cause of
negativity in society. In Arthur Miller s work, The Crucible, rumors spur mass hysteria in the colonial
town of Salem by changing people s views of a situation, undermining the self confidence of victims,
and inspiring fear among friends and neighbors.
Likewise, a person s perception and viewpoint drastically change from rumors whether they are true
or not. People often tend to believe everything they hear, which causes society to conclude that the
rumor is true without knowing all the facts. In The Crucible, a character named Parris illustrates this
by saying, She may be. And yet it has troubled me that you are now seven months out of their house,
and in all this time no other family has ever called for your service (Miller 1.1.26). In addition to their
assumptions, the gossip itself leads to the false accusations of Abigail. No matter how much gossip
gets into the people s heads who live in Salem, they would never choose to talk to the person, just
about them (Decter). Jumping to conclusions causes people to judge others unfairly and without merit,
causing physical and emotional damage to anyone affected by the untruth of the rumor. This is an
identical struggle that

A Study On A Cerebral Vascular Accident
A cerebral vascular incident can happen to anyone at anytime. Some people know it be called a stroke,
CVA, or brain attack. The majority of patients who have had a stoke will have another one within one
year. Stoke tend to occur more often in the southern United States also known as the stroke belt . This
may be related to the larger number of elderly, tobacco use, and obesity. A cerebral vascular accident
ranks high in the major leading causes of death in the United States, and it happens nearly every four

Each minute that passes is increased cell death in the brain. This means the effect of the stroke will be
more severe and have more of an impact on the person. A stroke is a medical emergency and signs
should be recognized and treated abruptly. Signs of a cerebral vascular accident include decreased
sensation, weakness, confusion, trouble speaking or understanding, trouble seeing or blurred vision,
trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination, or headache with no known cause. The
American Heart Association (2013), has put out a saying, Spot a stroke F.A.S.T. F for face drooping, A

Adolescent Learning Practices And Preferences
This assignment has two folds. It first attempts to capture and narrate stories of adolescent learning
practices and preferences in a middle school setting. Then, it analyses and interprets the narrative
through the lens of literatures. The interpretation also can be supported or confuted by the perspectives
gained from my interactions with adolescents and their teachers during my recent placement. As
Pendergast (2009) points out, there is a lack of emphasis on middle school education that results in
ineffective teaching and learning approaches. So, in recognising a need for every middle school
teacher to develop a better knowledge and understanding of adolescents, this qualitative exercise
becomes a salient point of my teacher training.
Adolescents are often seen as a risk or perceived to be at risk (Carrington, 2006). Like many, I, too,
have acquired such perception. Therefore, there is an urgency to replace the old with new fresh
perspectives. In order to engage adolescents, a teacher must explore various learning needs based on
the characteristics of adolescents. MYSA (2008, p. 1) defines middle schooling as an intentional
approach to teaching and learning that is responsive and appropriate to the full range of needs,
interests and achievements of middle year students in formal and informal schooling contexts. The
challenge of being able to understand and engage adolescents is significant.
The Narrative
My recent placement experience includes making qualitative

The Development of Fast Food
The development of fast food was revolutionary; however, this revolution was corrupted by big
business and the desire to maximize profit. With fast food as a staple for society, due to its
convenience, the consumer fails to realize what is inside the burger they are eating. The customers are
eating foods which are filled with additives such as cellulose and L cysteine. Additives are good for
the bottom line, but bad for the well being of the consumer. Cost effective additives may be justifiable
from a businessman s perspective, but what about the consumer? Cellulose, better known as wood
pulp, doesn t come to mind as millions of uninformed customers chow down on their McNuggets.
This additive is not simply pieces of tree bark cleverly hidden within fast food. Instead, it is a paste or
powder (FoodBabe). Wood pulp is added to fast foods because of its caloric value of zero. With the
absence of calories, food containing cellulose provides no nutritional value besides giving consumers
that satisfying, full feeling. According to the FDA, cellulose consumption by humans, regardless of
the amount, has no effect other than providing dietary bulk, reducing nutritive value of such food
stuffs and possibly exerting a laxative effect (FDA). Many abusers of this filler include McDonalds,
Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, Wendy s, Arby s, and Sonic. In this caloric conscious world, is it really the
company s fault for filling products with additives which have little caloric value, or

consumer attitudes and their relationship to the market structure, particularly in the area of advertising
or brand evaluation. For example, in theory, an individual should be able to evaluate each feature of a
given brand independently and should have no difficulty giving a high rating to one feature while
giving another a low rating. However, in practice, researchers have noticed that respondents have a
tendency to give a high rating to all the brand s features if they like the brand, and a low rating to all
the features if they do not like the brand. This is known as a halo effect.
The halo effect makes it difficult to evaluate brands in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

individual is particularly impressive/disappointing in one area, avoid the tendency to categorize other

II. Negative or Positive Leniency
Some raters are too hard to too easy overall in evaluating employees. Performance evaluation ratings
that are severe or lenient give the wrong impression to personnel and to the employee.
Causes:
o
Membership in a weak team. (Guilt by association) The good player on a weak team usually ends up
with lower ratings than he or she would have if on a winning team. o The self comparison effect. The
person who doesn t do the job as we remember we did it when we held that job will suffer more than
those those who do work unfamiliar to us. o The boss as perfectionist. Because the manager s
expectation level is so high, he or she is somewhat disappointed and rates people lower than they
deserve. o The effect of the person s past record. The person who has done good work in the distant
past is assumed to be okay in the recent past oo. The impressions of past good work carriers over into
later periods. o The effective of recentness. The person who does an outstanding job the previous

Risk Of Skin Cancer In Tanning Beds
Sharon Miller is the author of this article and is part of FDA. In this article she discusses how each
type of uv rays damage the skin and which uv ray is used in tanning beds. This is relevant to my topic
because it demonstrates the risk of skin cancer. Many people think tanning gives them a ¨healthy¨
glow, but in reality a tan is a sign on skin damage. UV B rays burn the top layer of skin resulting in a
sunburn in most cases. UV A rays burn into a deeper layer of the skin causing a rash to appear.
Tanning beds emit UV B rays and UV A rays, which is why you tend to get a sunburn before turning
dark. The UV B rays cause your body to emit more melanin, which is a pigment that darkens the skin.
This is why we get tan in the summer whether it

The Beat Generation Subculture Essay
The Beat Generation Subculture
Every generation has its middle class, majority, and norm, which are decided by that era s standards of
behavior and thought. Similarly, each generation has a group that rejects these standards and rebels
against the norm. In the 1950 s a group of American writers that exemplified this behavior formed.
They were called the beat generation. The beat generation was particularly remarkable because
although it was began by an exceptionally small group of people, its cultural influence was enormous.
The beats rebelled against things like conformity and consumerism in the post World War II society.
Their writing challenged both traditional American values and contemporary writing styles.

Many writers in the group later renounced the term when they felt it lost its meaning. It took the beats
a long time before they gained fame however. Jack Kerouac s novel, On the Road, went through many
different publishers before anyone agreed to print it. When it did come out it was heavily criticized by
the press. In the 1950 s the lifestyle that On the Road explored was considered deviant. The stereotype
that emerged in the mass media was a spaced out beatnik, dressed in black, pounding on bongo drums
and muttering gibberish as poetry (Microsoft Encarta, 2001). America s youth, however, identified
with the feelings of despair and the need for freedom expressed in their work. The beats created a
revolution that began with many young people leaving their conventional lives to hitchhike around
American and find themselves. Like most subcultures, the Beat Generation rebelled against the social
and cultural norms of their time. For them it was the post World War II society that they rejected.
Cultural historians point out that acquisition of consumer goods, which had been scarce during
wartime, became a central feature of postwar life, driven by the mass media, advertising, and generous
loan terms (Encarta, 2001). The

Newell Company Corporate Strategy
Newell Company: Corporate Strategy
In this case, we are introduced to CEO John McDonough and his management team with Newell
Company, a major manufacturer of hardware and home furnishings, office products, and housewares.
A publicly owned corporation, Newell has made its name on mergers and acquisitions. Edgar A.
Newell founded the company in 1902 after buying the assets of a manufacturer of brass curtain rods
that had previously filed bankruptcy. In the years following, Newell Company has seen several
management changes, and its also seen major growth and profitability making it tops in its respective

The products Newell manufactures have proven to be of good quality and performance. The
differentiation of these products attribute to the driving of value. Through mergers and acquisitions,
Newell has been able to enter new markets with different product categories. With each product it
manufactures, it offers good , better , and best products in attempt to increase market share with mass
merchandisers. Its focus on these high volume mass merchandisers has led to an increased need for
superior customer service. These mass merchandisers, especially Wal Mart (the clear cut leader in the
discount retailer market), had the upper hand over its suppliers and was able to dictate the kind and
quantity of merchandise shipped to its stores. It was able to leverage price and scheduling, pressuring
suppliers to increase efficiencies in their warehouses and distribution systems. This led Newell to
invest heavily into an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), which allowed divisions to schedule their
own production and deliveries, while allowing retailers to maintain minimal stock levels in line with
actual sales. Newell focused its energy to reducing inventories and maintaining a standard of 100%
line fill and 100% on time delivery to customers. This led to Newell having a solid reputation within

Transgressions In Mervyn Leroy s The Bad Seed
While the conclusion tacked onto the end of The Bad Seed didn t manage to change some of the less
obvious themes in Mervyn LeRoy s 1956 film, the new ending put in place by conservative lobby
groups affects the portrayal of transgressions from societal standards and taboos. The dramatic
difference in the ending gives the film a strong message that transgressions can only be righted
through an act of god. The fact that Rhoda is transgressive is still undeniably a part of the film. In fact,
Rhoda could even be considered twice as transgressive: she is both a murderer and a child murderer,
two separate taboos (Hendershot, p. 28). Further still, the fact that Rhoda does not deviate into any
other major taboos at any point during the film a stark

Ambassador Health Reflection
I completed my community service hours at Ambassador Health. I have completed all 15 hours that
was required. At Ambassador Health, I got to interact with a variety of people. Some of them were
babies, others were toddlers, a teenager, and of course nurses. I tried to create a bond with them while
I was there. I spent a lot of time with the teenager, and we would read books, play connect four, color,
and work on math. We honestly had so much fun together no matter what we were doing. She became
a very close friend of mine who I still want to see regularly. I believe that she looked up to me as a
sister and we even got so close that she talked to me about her accident. The fact that she could trust
me enough to talk about her past with me and inform me about what happened to her made me feel
like a lucky girl. She impacted my life tremendously by making me not take a single day for granted,
because you never know when it could all change. However, she was not the only one that I got close
to. I also spent a lot of time with some toddlers. They liked to play in the toy room and play with
various toys. We had fun rolling a car back and forth and playing with a basketball. I got close to those
kids and we always had fun. They had so much energy that no matter how much we played they were
never ready for me to leave. I also got close to a few of the nurses. I learned a lot from the children,
but also the nurses. They tried to not interrupt the children and me while I was there.

article Coffee Industry to Adopt New Pricing Plans, the major players in the coffee industry have seen

suppliers bargaining power. As Broadway Cafe demands high quality coffee and there is no
availability of substitutes for the coffee beans that Broadway Cafe use. Therefore, the bargaining
power of supplier increases. Threat of Substitute Products In the premium foods and coffees industry,
there are substitute products. According to Mary Coulter, the best way to evaluate this threat is to ask
whether other industries can satisfy the customer need that this industry is satisfying (Coulter). Other
beverage industries can satisfy the customer s need for a drink, and other food industries can satisfy
the customer s need to eat. There are obviously good substitutes to Broadway products and the threat

The thyroid is one of the most important glands in our body. It produces a thyroid hormone that
influences the metabolism in every single cell in the body. Sometimes the thyroid starts to have
problems and it can cause a lot of symptoms. One of these problems is hyperthyroidism, which is
where the thyroid malfunctions and begins to produce too much thyroid hormone. This causes the
symptoms of nervousness, sweating, heart palpations, nerve tingling, heat intolerance, fatigue,
hyperactivity, eye disorder, and hair and weight loss. The most common causes of hyperthyroidism are
Graves disease, Hashimoto s disease, tumors, thyroiditis, toxic multinodular goiter or the TSHR gene.

Difference Between Linguistic And Linguistic Studies
In the following essay, I am going to present a comparison between two linguistic studies.
Constructing another Language Usage Based Linguistics in Second Language Acquisition by
Eskildsen and Sources of Linguistic Knowledge in the second language acquisition of English articles
by Ionin, Zubizarreta, and Maldonado are going to be contrasted regarding their theoretical
frameworks, research questions and research designs together with the conclusions reached.
Reading the two studies, certain conclusions regarding their theoretical framework can be drawn. The
first article provides Usage Based linguistics view of language learning as mainly based on experience
and item, with particular formulas used at the beginning and then resulting to general constructions
(e.g. Dabrowska 2000; Tomasello 2003; Dabroswka and Lieven 2005). On the other hand, Ionin,
Zubbizarreta, and Maldonado, study adopts a theoretical framework that primarily focuses on the
aspects of linguistic knowledge, namely the L2 input, L1 transfer and the inherent linguistic
knowledge (Universal Grammar) that influence the acquisition of English articles by second language
learners.
Each of the studies also examine research questions related to their domains. The first one explores the
relationship between the application of Usage Based linguistics and issues in second language
acquisition, as well as how type and token frequencies used by learners can reflect schematicity of
learner language representation

They liked to keep track of their days, and when to pray for their gods. The calendar was very
important to Aztecs, it was an indicator of when to do a sacrifice; the Aztecs highly valued sacrifices
and rituals for their gods. The Aztecs weren t some messed up people, they were organized, and they
had a clean living style. The Aztecs were knowledgeable, they were skilled at many things and they
had religious idols on the calendar to show how much they value their gods. Their main purpose,
stated above, was to know what day to sacrifice, as they thought of the gods as highly important, and
they thought if no sacrifice is made, the gods will die. The Aztecs needed to be precise at knowing
when to do a sacrifice, they didn t want to make the gods upset if they didn t do their sacrifice on time.
Overall calendars were highly important to Aztecs, and they used calendars in their daily lives,
knowing what day to trade (for merchants), or when to pray was important. Calendars were made out
of stone, they were carved and chiseled. Similar to both the birdcage and the miniature god sculpture,
it took a lot of time and precision. Calendars weren t something to be done fast, it took a lot of time,
the Aztecs wanted to know accurately when to celebrate festivals, do sacrifices, and when to pray.
Making the calendar took a lot of time, but learning about them took time too. To become a teacher
you obviously needed to go to school, but you also highly needed to know about the calendar. The
calendar was important to religion and teachers would need to pass the information on how to use a
calendar or else the next generation wouldn t be able to know how to use an important tool for
praying, festivals, and sacrifices. Teachers needed to teach kids and pass down information about the
calendar or else there would be a lack of accuracy when to pray and when to sacrifice. This artifact

Blue-Eyed People Genogram
This documentary was very informative. One of the several things I learned is how people form
perceptions based off what they experience. For example, the children in the third grade class felt they
were more superior than other races because of what they had experienced throughout life. When the
teacher asked them how they viewed black people, the children responded with hateful comments, this
was a result of something they had heard or seen previously. During the experiment, I noticed how
immediately the blue eyed children felt some sense of power over the brown eyed people because of
what the teacher told them. Then on the next day they brown eyed people felt superior. Not only did
both sides experience discrimination, but collectively they learned that discrimination was not right.
This was solely because the teacher taught them about discrimination. The scene that I think will stick

majority countries of the world let employers to release employee simply for cause. A number of the

autonomy of contract, and the faith that equally employers and employees support an at will

Students in economically disadvantaged schools are more likely to have teachers rated in the bottom
quartile for teacher effectiveness as measured by raising student achievement (Education Equality
Project, 2010).
Previous Attempts at Merit Pay Traditionally, efforts to obtain effective teachers have focused
primarily upon raising the entry bar via credential, licensure, or certification requirements. However,
research has consistently demonstrated that credentials, licensure, and advanced degrees are of little
value in predicting teacher effectiveness (Education Equality Project, 2010; Green Forster, 2008). The
use of merit pay to obtain, retain, and affect student achievement is a lesser used, but not unknown,
methodology. In the 1920s, 40 to 50 percent of all urban school districts adopted a merit pay plan.
Interest waned and then resurfaced in the 1950s and, by 1960; one in ten public schools adopted a
form of merit pay. Interest declined in the 1970s and rose again in the 1980s, and in 2010. Prior to the
1980s, research was primarily focused upon the difficulty experienced in defining and measuring
quality teaching (Cohen and Murnane, 1985). Due to the inability to find reliable and valid definitions
and measures of teacher quality, staff dissatisfaction and dissension was experienced when using merit
pay plans (Murnane Cohen, 1986). In addition,

The study issued that the guards would be forced to give brutal and cruel torture upon the prisoner.

I believe that it is human nature for people to act without intention more than they act with intention.
This can be for many reasons, but I think that is the case because people tend to be more concerned

Ecological succession allows a biological community to evolve over time (2). This succession is divided into two distinct sections: primary and secondary succession. Primary succession allows life to form in regions with soil incapable of sustaining larger plants and by extension, larger animals (2). Secondary succession occurs in areas where a community used to exist, but was removed; leaving behind soil capable of sustaining life (2). This process allows bare rock to transform into a hillside or a forest to recover after a fire and is extremely important to ecosystems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this time music has evolved to something of individual celebration, achievement, and even a battle call for the rights of people everywhere expressed though a large range of musical genres and styles. Music can be split into different sections based on how it is produced, what it contains musically, and how it affects the audience through language or influence. Although every genre of music has a different purpose and twist, pop music is the most popular in today s society because of how it is produced, its chord progression, common and recurring cadences, and its relatable lyrics and by the influential singers behind ... Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional Probability of Chord Progression on Brain Response: An MEG Study, showed that structures commonly found in pop music created spikes in the right anterior portion of the brain, when specific chords are played in dissonance to the original key, such as a Neapolitan sixth. Pop music has this effect because it is commonly in a major key and has little to no modulation. This creates a soothing effect that spikes the brain causing the release of serotonin making the listener happier the more they listen. Pop music also creates a soothing and pleasing tone that is both powerful and euphoric through the use of the standard chord progression I V vi VI. This chordal progression is used in many pop music melodies, choruses, and even establishes a commonality through major structures that are both pleasing to the ear and the mind. By creating these melodic structures, pop music is able to give its listeners chordal structure statistical probability. Seung Goo Kim, June Sic Kim and, Chun Kee Chung The Effect of Conditional Probability, found that year old children were able to predict tonal sequences found in typical pop music. This is most commonly related to the resolution to the tonic of any given key. Pop music uses this by relying on strong chords within the key, such as the dominant and mediant because of their strong relation to the tonic. Other music styles such as jazz and even some techno rely on weaker chords that stem from the leading tone and sub dominant. This weak structure calls for resolution and even to the untrained ear tend to cause strain and discomfort making them less favorable and not follow the conditional probability found in pop. • 16. Leading Cause Of Negativity In Society In Arthur Miller s... Rumors are among the many dilemmas afflicting the human condition. They eat away at society like a parasite, undermining morality and infecting good intentions with malice or decay. Despite the fact that rumors are not always accurate, they still spread like wildfires. Rumors are the leading cause of negativity in society. In Arthur Miller s work, The Crucible, rumors spur mass hysteria in the colonial town of Salem by changing people s views of a situation, undermining the self confidence of victims, and inspiring fear among friends and neighbors. Likewise, a person s perception and viewpoint drastically change from rumors whether they are true or not. People often tend to believe everything they hear, which causes society to conclude that the rumor is true without knowing all the facts. In The Crucible, a character named Parris illustrates this by saying, She may be. And yet it has troubled me that you are now seven months out of their house, and in all this time no other family has ever called for your service (Miller 1.1.26). In addition to their assumptions, the gossip itself leads to the false accusations of Abigail. No matter how much gossip gets into the people s heads who live in Salem, they would never choose to talk to the person, just about them (Decter). • 18. Adolescent Learning Practices And Preferences This assignment has two folds. It first attempts to capture and narrate stories of adolescent learning practices and preferences in a middle school setting. Then, it analyses and interprets the narrative through the lens of literatures. The interpretation also can be supported or confuted by the perspectives gained from my interactions with adolescents and their teachers during my recent placement. As Pendergast (2009) points out, there is a lack of emphasis on middle school education that results in ineffective teaching and learning approaches. So, in recognising a need for every middle school teacher to develop a better knowledge and understanding of adolescents, this qualitative exercise becomes a salient point of my teacher training. Adolescents are often seen as a risk or perceived to be at risk (Carrington, 2006). Like many, I, too, have acquired such perception. Therefore, there is an urgency to replace the old with new fresh perspectives. With fast food as a staple for society, due to its convenience, the consumer fails to realize what is inside the burger they are eating. The customers are eating foods which are filled with additives such as cellulose and L cysteine. Additives are good for the bottom line, but bad for the well being of the consumer. Cost effective additives may be justifiable from a businessman s perspective, but what about the consumer? The Beat Generation Subculture Essay The Beat Generation Subculture Every generation has its middle class, majority, and norm, which are decided by that era s standards of behavior and thought. Similarly, each generation has a group that rejects these standards and rebels against the norm. In the 1950 s a group of American writers that exemplified this behavior formed. They were called the beat generation. The beat generation was particularly remarkable because although it was began by an exceptionally small group of people, its cultural influence was enormous. The beats rebelled against things like conformity and consumerism in the post World War II society. Their writing challenged both traditional American values and contemporary writing styles. It took the beats a long time before they gained fame however. Jack Kerouac s novel, On the Road, went through many different publishers before anyone agreed to print it. When it did come out it was heavily criticized by the press. In the 1950 s the lifestyle that On the Road explored was considered deviant. The stereotype that emerged in the mass media was a spaced out beatnik, dressed in black, pounding on bongo drums and muttering gibberish as poetry (Microsoft Encarta, 2001). America s youth, however, identified with the feelings of despair and the need for freedom expressed in their work. The beats created a revolution that began with many young people leaving their conventional lives to hitchhike around American and find themselves. Like most subcultures, the Beat Generation rebelled against the social and cultural norms of their time. For them it was the post World War II society that they rejected.
